  1. "We've gathered you all here today, October 29, to announce that we've chosen the worst possible day to make a major announcement. With the largest storm anyone has ever seen currently bearing down on both of our hometowns, and the presidential election just 8 days away, we are confident that this announcement will fail to make an impact on anyone who is listening. Thank you. We'll take a few questions."

  2. Pretty sure it has something to do with George Hopkins's and Jim Coates's childhood rivalry on the soccer fields of Kenya.

  3. I will give 5 million dollars to the charity of choice to any DCP poster that can unseal the private documents that will give Drum Corps fans a look at this Major Announcement before their Elected Day of Monday.

  10. Someone mentioned the Inaugural Parade, in which case it would probably just be an announcement that the two corps would be marching in a block. Any way you slice it, I'm Stilton kind of intrigued.

  12. Looking back at Paul Milano's post, I would think DCI could create a standardized financial hardship methodology. This could consist of nothing more than a best practices document created by a group of fundraiser consultants (like Paul), directors who have been through this, and other interested parties, or could include a 'financial emergency response team'. Of course, this could complement a standardized financial emergency prevention methodology, intended to prevent this from happening in the first place. Separately from that, DCI could implement a rule that any DCI corps must gain DCI approval before taking out a loan. And submit to a DCI audit to do so. The logic is that DCI's accountants would be better able to spot typical drum corps financial finagling better than a bank would.

  13. With that music I'm sure the corps'll shred. Sounds like a real Gouda show.

  14. Well, now that the cheddar's out of the bag, I guess I can reveal that I've stuck with the cream motif for Crown and will be attiring the corps in Philadelphia Cream Cheese packaging. For Cadets I've gone classic, reflecting the 20th anniversary celebration of the corps' DCI Championship "In the string cheese, at the rind when kings goat off to whey" show. I can't speak anything more of the costuming, except that I've borrowed some ideas from "To Brine the Parmesan Crisps" and "Between Asiago and Edam."

  15. Shenendoah Sound was in fact VERY close to Cincinnati tradition, scoring just under them, in DCA Class A prelims. I'd call that competative. Now... about that "target" issue: Dick, did I ever tell you the story about my combat training (81150/AZR)at Lackland AFB? LOL!

  17. They had to wait until Monday because Donald Trump wasn't available until then. Can't make announcements without The Donald, it's the rules.

  23. Perhaps rather than gaining income, the corps should look at their expenditures. How many corps buy new drums every year or two? Even if they get a substantial price break, that is still several thousand dollars paid out every couple of years. (The drums are still in good condition, they just buy new ones to have a new look.) The same idea applies to uniforms. Does a corps really need to change uniforms ever 3 years? Lets not even get started on the cost of props. And now they want to add lighting?? Before we start trying to get more money out of the alumni, lets try to cut back on the spending. Drum corps should be about the performers, not the "artists" who design the shows.
