  2. Pioneer announces 2014 program, "Joy!" http://pioneer-corps.org/news/569-pioneer-announces-2014-program-joy.html I really liked their show last summer, so I'm glad they're continuing with this genre.

  3. I disagree. For instance, BD chose to play music that has been around for years. It was not modern. I am also not saying that the placements were incorrect. Also, I understand that each person in the crowd appreciates different things. I am going to show my support by giving the 100 dollars I normally donate to BD to SCV instead. I think that is a positive way to support the kind of program I enjoy most.

  4. I wish to suggest that the part of myself be played by Brad Pitt, but he'd have to endure some heavy make-up sessions to look sexier.

  5. Entertaining? At less than 35 members, sure. But, NOT effectively entertaining in a stadium setting. It's simply too difficult for a group that small to have much of an impact on an audience more than 20 yards off to the side. Put them on a stage, capture them on video, it can work. On today's drum corps field of competition, outdoors in the flesh, under the circumstances . . . NO !

  6. So, Crown's pants are already legendary...I'm sure it was noticed that they were cut very tight, dance-like. I heard on here that dance belts/jock straps were used to keep things PG...any more details on that? What about other uniform underthings? In Capital Regiment, our director had us wear plain black T-shirts and tight black running/bike shorts. This was to keep underwear from bunching up and to create a smooth look; he said he learned this from Jeff Fiedler. In The Cadets, we were more complicated. We had to wear "show whites": a white tee cut off at the navel (to prevent bunching), white briefs/panties, and elastic white semi-tights to make sure no other color came through the pants. Also, tuck them into the calf-high white athletic socks. PHew! The smell of sweaty show whites was unbearable.... Any other insights?

  8. George, you words of kindness are greatly appreciated. We are thrilled that many many people are starting to view CV in a new light. I think I am safe in saying this but we truely feel that 1st, 4th, 6th or 16th didn't really matter. The exciting part of what is going on down here is that we feel the organization as a whole is moving forward in a possitive manner. From recruiting to finances to programing to community recognition and involvement...it just all seems to pointing up. We're excited! Having said all that, it is pretty clear that we are not the only ones that seem to be doing some things correctly. C2, Fusion, Bush, not to mention you guys MBI and Cabs...all seem to be improving by leaps and bounds. Not to mention all the Class A corps doing great things. This is definitely an exciting time to be around DCA. Dan

  11. I'm going to get myself in trouble here, but this is my opinion: Very very very few players have enough in them to give 100% with 2 corps. One or the other (frequently both) suffers in the exchange. The other part of that (and I am being clear that this is just my opinion) is that the essence of drum corps is the commitment to your fellow corpsmembers, the teamwork, the esprit d' corps. Even more difficult than memorizing both shows, both field shows, being warmed up and prepared for performances, being in the zone to give it your all, is that commitment to your teammates. It's hard to do that twice. I've met many many people that have played in multiple corps. In my opinion I've never met even one that did not short change someone (including their own experience of the activity) in the process. Rantings of an old fart? Perhaps. You be the judge.

  13. After really being honest with myself and watching all of the top corps from this past summer I can honestly say I did not like BD's show or Crown's show, or Cadets for that matter. My favorite show was SCV. I also enjoyed Bluecoats, Blue Knights, Boston, Cavies and I don't want to forget how much I really enjoyed the Troopers. I have loved BD since I was a little boy. I wanted to march with them so badly, but sadly they did not have guys in their guard when I was able to march. Luckily for me the Freelancers existed and I was able to have a terrific corps experience. I really loved BD visually this past year, but musically I was left uninspired. This has been the case with BD over the past few years. I have been so in love with BD for so long that I have been giving them a pass on what seems to be their lack of audience focus. Well, no more. I am tired of not being entertained by shows. It is not just BD. I honestly felt Crown, while having an amazing horn line, was not really focused on entertaining the audience as well this past season (congrats to them on their first DCI win though). I am not talking about the individual performers, but the design of the shows. I don't think there needs to be an audience reaction score added, but I do hope that more corps will follow SCV's formula. They were not only great fun to watch, but they were 1 tenth from medaling. I have spent money on the fan network and I go to at least one show (normally the Stanford show) per year, I want to keep supporting this activity I love. I hope the corps will keep the audience in mind with the programs for 2014. Here's hoping!!
