Purple? PURPLE?? I fell off my bicycle, and my entire left arm turned purple. My doc told me it was a hematoma, and it would go away on its own. It just wouldn't, so I went back. His manner wasn't very bedsidey and gruffly asked if I'd like him to drain it. I hate needles; I can't sew very well and jammed the $%#@'ing thing into my thumb. Remember the purple thumbs from the iraqi peoples' fledgling democratic vote? I can't get my friends to register to vote, yet they constantly pitch and moan about the current state of things. "Our Favorite Things" was one of the Cadets' least inspired show ideas from that staff. Ooh, if I had a son, I'd name him Staff, because I've never heard of an English person named that. Are they ever going to officially change the name of the English Horn, as it's neither English nor a Horn? How about Oboon? Obone works, but High School kids would snicker every time the Band Director said, "We need more, Obone." That sounds like Shakespearean porn. Did you know that Judi Dench won the Oscar in Shakespeare in Love for being onscreen for 8 minutes? That's why they created the award in 1936. I don't like Leonardo DiCaprio per se, but he was robbed of a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for What's Eating Gilbert Grape. What did the green grape say to the purple grape? "BREATHE!" Get it? It had turned purple. "Breathe..." Carolina Crown's purple pants.5 points

Here is a list of Corps that, so far as I am aware, do not require the pit to participate in PT:3 points

This topic along with your comment reminded me of an article on BAC's facebook I read in way back in 2012. I will re-post the comments here:3 points

Like most drum corps shows, it's all how you sell it: Excellent at marking time in this difficult economy until exact hit without pre-telegraphing the move; the business competitors will never see it coming. Stop and go's are an expert skill to capitalize on opportunities and not going beyond the imposed limits. Able to function in pressing situations with little sleep and under other tough sacrifices, making the best appearance even when others are not ready. Can follow directions whether from the podium of the chief officer or the bull horn of press box critics. Definitely a team player with full ensembles, sections, subgroups, as well as soli. Most sensitive to the rhythms of life, the counter-rhythms, and the various tempos that create the bigger picture.3 points

The US Navy, Phi Mu Alpha, The Buglers Hall of Fame, Bugles Across America, the Bridgemen, the Phantom Regiment, the Sunrisers and Prime Time Brass were all represented among the echo taps contingent surrounding Clark Terry's resting place this morning. The call (in the glorious key of G) rang out in the crisp morning air with all its natural harmonics layered in sequence, across the hillside, just north of Harlem, where the great man's marker stands within a few yards of those of Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, Cootie Williams, W.C. Handy and Louis Armstrong's mentor, King Oliver. The buglers, and Clark, were in good company today.2 points

Take care dude - many folks live long active otherwise healthy lives after a heart attack. Be healthy and keep us in the loop, even if you have to use back channel diplomacy, like the Swiss Embassy of drum corps planet - TW.2 points

I'm gonna pull the plug and start this topic now. With all the staff changes done in such a timely manner, the 2015 season is well under way for the Scouts. Personally, I couldn't be happier with the choices and I can't wait to see what is yet to come. Go Scouts!!!1 point

As Fran posted.... Reilly is in Baltimore tomorrow (15th). I'll be following Reilly all the way in my van and taking my world famous "A View From The Van" photos! (OK, so they're only famous with Reilly. LOL) Weather reports for Baltimore tomorrow say "windy with clouds and sun" (reporting a high of 51 w/winds around 18 and gusts up to 31 miles per hour... Better than rain! )1 point

Nope.... We've (Reilly) been canceled. Not sure what happened, that's way above my pay grade... heh Donna and I have rescheduled us to attending Sky Alumni's BHOF. Looking forward to getting some audios, videos and pics!... (Donna will be a guest with the Brassmen Alumni's Honor Guard for the BHOF) My good friend (Fran) is MC'ing the Maryland Drum Corps Hall of Fame in Baltimore that night...1 point

Add The Brassmen Alumni to the lineup as well ... another crowd pleaser ... one can only imagine what BHOFers Ruben Ariola and Jim Maldenado have in store for that day ... Stop down and find out! :-)1 point

Was emailing back and forth with our friend "The DON". He asked if I would let everyone know...... Don's Health update.... Subject: news about my heart *Donald Incardona <donincardona@gmail.com> Fri, Mar 13, 2015 at 6:26 PM i went to the doc today and we reviewed my last echocardiogram. this is mt internist. we found that one ventricle is akinetic. this means there is a dead spot there. the echo said my ejection fraction is 40 % but he said with that dead spot it can't be right. it HAS to be power. i concur. it's how i feel. and that dead spot is because sometime, and we don't know when, i had a heart attack! i guess because i have diabetes i didn't feel it when it happened. it's not from clogged arteries. it's from the ventrical fluttering or something. i was stunned. so i just thought i'd pass this sugar plum along. so for now we are all caught up. -- " THE DON " *Tony W <sunriserdm@gmail.com> Fri, Mar 13, 2015 at 11:15 PM To: Donald Incardona <donincardona@gmail.com> DA%N!! Sit down and take care! heh Thanks for the update, really.... take care my brother. (I don't want to be looking for another twin, ya know what I mean? LOL) *Donald Incardona <donincardona@gmail.com> Sat, Mar 14, 2015 at 8:27 AM To: Tony W <sunriserdm@gmail.com> well my brother i'm doing the best i can. it just shows us we really have no control over all this stuff. i was always proud that with all my illnesses i never had a heart attack. now i can't say that. since i don't have the people on GW email addys please let them know. i know most care about me. -- " THE DON "1 point

Tomorrow, 3/15 at 9:30 AM, many will gather at Woodlawn Cemetery in the Bronx for the memorial for Clark Terry. He had served in the US Navy, but that service was not able to provide one bugler for the ceremony. No matter. The members of Bugles Across America have stepped up and, while it's not known how many will participate, the total nuimber will be significant and "Echo Taps" will ring out for this great man. Somehow, that seems just about perfect.1 point

The Ohio state marching band is the best band in the land (as we fawn all over their making moving figures, just like bands did in the 1960s). That one's for you Gar1 point

I also think that there were many moments, like the opening trumpet feature, the tambourine feature, the use of the stage that all played in. Of course people criticize the slow walk on the catwalk and all that, but they did a good job of making it Fellini without even knowing his films, for those that didn't.1 point

Actually there's a top 12 corps who's been storytelling quite a bit in the past 10 yrs. And they HAVE been rewarded.1 point

Totally agree. Especially when the story isn't constructed well, and the elements don't work together.1 point

Concepts will hopefully replace themes. It will loosely connect a show in subtle ways and will allow for more artistic expression without hopefully the cheese that sometimes tops theme shows in August to ram the theme down our throats.1 point

Like "Tilt." It's a show title: a word. That music is not really connected in any thematic way and if we're being really honest Bluecoats visually was a lot of "OK, lets lean again in this set to the right this time!" I mean, the climax of the show was someone running and jumping off of a ramp: you would really have to work to find a "Tilt" in that climax. Don't get me wrong, 'Tilt' was a fun show, and it worked really well, but I think to call it a "themed" show is tenuous.1 point

I'll give your post some credit if you can accept that it's not fair to the "East Coast" corps to have limited panels every night while full 8-person panels are at nearly every show in the west during the start of the season. I'll say that's a fair trade off, along with the glamour of being able to score an 85 the first week of July. Also, what shows only had SCV and BK (and Open Class) corps at them? Frankly, I'd love to see Crossmen, Academy, Mandarins, Oregon Crusaders (who may just surprise you this year), Pacific Crest, etc. You're slighting a lot of the west shows like they're all total crap. Try going to a show out here where you only get 5 corps in a night, an hour intermission, and where it is 10x more likely to get rained out. I feel your pain, but not really.1 point
