  2. The style for them was something very new, do you deny this?!! Personally I would take a good solid show and music over "bleeding on the edge". Phantom should be Phantom on steroids and quit trying to be everything to everyone like some corps try and do. Do what you do well and very well and the chips will fall in place. So far I am actually looking forward to this next year, like I do every year. I tend not to prejudge before seeing the product. All the naysayers last year were just ridiculous on saying how bad they were. Apparently myself (most others), and the judges, thought otherwise. I won't say it's the best show they have ever done, but it was nowhere near the calamity some tried to make it and hang Dan from the nearest tree with it. Seems like a common meme here by some and I'm not getting it, or they simply don't understand how the organization is run and by whom. Ignorance and fear seem to go hand in hand I suppose.

  3. So, did you hate Dan this much when the corps was consistent top 5?????? He was part of all those shows too. I'm really excited by this news. Dwight and Tony have proven themselves over and over again to be very competent in their fields. Tony, if Marie were alive today she'd be thrilled with this news. She thought the world of you. Dwight, can't wait to see confidence return to the corps' marching style. Welcome back gentlemen. SUTA

  4. The days of "just hunker down and play" are long over for corps that want to score competitively. I'm not saying that's a good thing. That's just the way it is in the present era that places undue importance on the visual (my opinion)

  5. Following the great season we have had including our 3rd tour to the DCA World Championships we are proud to announce our return to the United States in 2017. Of course our priorities are currently with the 2016 season, but we are giving members the option to secure their position for 2017 if they march with us in 2016. Keep an eye out for updates and make sure to 'like' our Facebook page!

  6. Oh, man. That sucks! I'm so sorry to hear this unfortunate news. Hopefully, they'll have access to a great medical staff, and his wife makes a speedy recovery.

  9. THANK YOU everyone for taking part in this while we wait for our Queen's return... Now, does anyone else have any more photos? (if not, I'll look through what I have and see if I can find something a little more challenging...) If anyone does, and would like to send it to me, I'll post it for you. (Please send any info you have, the who/where/when and if you know who took the pic) SunriserDM@gmail.com

  10. WooHoo!! (1999) Yes! This resurrection of the "DREAM" team is Scott Yaniga, Glen Johnson, Donnie Solinger and Dave Barth. This was taken on May 8th, 1999 at the Bergenfield, NJ High School by Moe Knox! THANKS for playing!

  11. You can't possibly be saying 2015 was new and innovative. Look at the musical rep alone, I'd hardly call that new or innovative.

  12. Scott Yaniga, Glen Johnson, Donnie Solinger and Dave Barth. I think it was '98 or '99, not sure.

  13. Sure Tony... Donnie Sollinger (think 2 ls').... Also played Contra in the 90s when the Buccs were having a less than successful season. Picked him out in the vid... And since we just survived another Fall Meet (Antique Auto Club of America) week in Hershey, PA. Donnie also has a pic of the Buccs original(?) equipment truck... it was a modified used hearse. Pic was in the HoDC write up....

  14. It's very Cadets musically. Wonder how they would create a "story" with it which seems to be what effect judges want.

  15. Anyone else ever think Bartok's Concerto for Orchestra could be a really neat Cadet show? Particularly 3rd and 4th movements? Always felt like there isn't enough there for a full show, but definite moments that would be amazing.

  16. It's worth considering that it would only look like this if we were all in the Goodyear blimp.

  17. I probably would have "like"d this anyways, but the fact that your avatar Beaker is staring at the GIF in amazement is the unexpected kicker that nailed it.

  18. That section '15 did have several key age-outs but will probably have 10 auditionees for every '16 opening. I found their parts to be my favorite music of the 2015 show.

  19. THIS is definitely THE one and only answer to this end of the discussion! To paraphrase an outstanding San Francisco law enforcement officer from the 70s, 'A man (parent)'s got to know their limitations."

  20. Such a bummer. As a musician, public school teacher, etc. I 100% get the problems and issues with copyright laws; I support every artist exercising their rights to make as much money as they can off of their artwork, and I'm extremely thankful for all of their art they have 'gifted' us. As a fan & consumer of art, it is of course disappointing that I can't pay what I'm already aware is an over-priced amount for DCI DVDs because of copyright hangups. It's upsetting that this is likely not artists' call, but rather lawyers from a multi-national corporation who owns the copyright. I will NEVER argue with copyright & a composer's rights to make money off of their art, but as a DCI fan I can say without a doubt this copyright hangup (that caused DCI to not have a FN archive of current season or past seasons) has made me a less-engaged drum corps fan: the activity is kind of "out of sight/out of mind," and for the first year in over a decade DCI has received zero dollars from me - not out of nutty vindictiveness, but because in place of drum corps subscriptions or whatnot I found other ways to occupy my time and money. I'm confident that had FN been same as previous years with the archives and with the 'DVR' function I would've paid again like I always have. One thing does seem clear: if you're a fan of the activity and there are DVDs of Blu-rays currently for sale you really want but don't own yet, it seems prudent to act now before things get crazier and those go away forever

  21. Just to confirm my understanding... PC and BD have a joint camp, ergo PC is admitting permanent defeat to BD. PC will never successfully compete against BD because of this arrangement. The fact that they held a public joint camp is tantamount to PC announcing publicly that they will never compete with BD. Do I have that right? Brasso, did you ever stop to think that it is PC that is attractive partner here? That possibly BD sees something in the way PC is run that prompts them to help support PC in any way they can? In my view, BD sees PC becoming a competitor faster with BD's help. In my view BD WANTS more competition and sees this fellow corps as having the infrastructure, leadership, drive, and MM base that makes BD believe PC will actually become a true competitor. I believe it's actually more probable that members who don't make BD will try out PC just because of the affiliation PC has with BD. I believe it's possible that MM's cut from BD will be attracted to PC simply because BD has taken an interest in PC's success. I believe it's probable that BD is fine with PC's retaining more members (from BD and other corps) as PC continues to advance. BD is the most financially stable, and growing, corps organization in the activity. What possible motivation could BD have to devote time and energy to a lower-ranked corps? Members? Bunk. Feeder corps? Crap, BD doesn't need any more stinkin' feeder corps. I believe BD is interested in PC because A) they appreciate what Stuart Pompel has done at PC (they may even see some of themselves in Stuart), B) it was an opportunity to streamline a recruiting process in a way that will benefit BOTH corps, C) BD feels that if this "partnership" expands they can feel comfortable with who and what they're partnering with (obviously a tall order as BD has never done it prior). To me, this is not in any way an admission that PC can't compete with BD, it's more an admission on the part of BD that PC will (or can), in fact, be a contender and BD wants to help propel that goal. And I believe that BD isn't concerned about PC beating them, so long as PC beats EVERY OTHER corps! And as a side, why would you pose your beliefs (wrong-headed as I believe they are) into some negative connotation of "...can't compete...". Isn't it at least as likely (much more-so, I believe) that BD is actually doing what we pitchfork-toters asked and hoped they would do when we were arguing the G7 kefluffle - pay attention to, and actively help, lower-placing corps become the competition your need and desire? I'm having a difficult time seeing your rationale for framing your comments in such negative lights. And suggesting you know the motivation or the message or the results of BD's interest in PC is narcissistic at best, mis-informed more likely, and intentionally negative and inflaming at worst.
