  1. Same here, Jeff. And for the record, a lot of the younger folks have to realize that just because there is snow on the roof, doesn't mean there isn't a raging fire down below. Alumni still perform with the intensity of the competing members, just without the same endurance. Hey, getting older still stinks, but it beats the hell out of the alternative!

  2. Thank you. I forgot I had to start at Music for All to get to Bands of America Grand Nationals. I saw a few videos of some of the finalists this morning. Wish I could get to Indianapolis more often but I'm over 2,000 miles away and don't like traveling alone anymore. I wait until my group says 'Let's go to DCI this year'. We're having lunch on Tuesday. The topic might come up In the meantime, looking forward to winter guard season soon. For the past 5 years, I've been to local contests and enjoyed the live experience again. 2 years ago, I sat behind a young girl cheering for her Mom spinning on the gym floor. Last year I saw winter guards aged from 4 to 54. Drum corps, marching band, winter guard? I can't choose. I like them all!

  3. for the record...I hope it continues. honestly, the biggest challenge for alumni corps is getting younger members in, and getting younger fans to come

  5. So... I have finally come out of the wilderness and decided to march again... I've only taken a 23 year break, so not too long away from the game. I am marching 2016 with Kidsgrove Scouts. I played bari in Jr corps but these days I am playing tuba... which brings me to my point.... That ###### horn is the spawn of a demon. Any advice for a relative newbie to marching contra (tuba) with regards to particular excercises and also how to find the sweet spot on my shoulder for that bad boy to sit?

  11. The last time I went to finals (2011), I made a reservation at a hotel on the outskirts of town that could be canceled, then in early June, I started low-ball bidding on Priceline for one of the big downtown convention hotels within walking distance of the stadium. Hit the Priceline jackpot on July 4, when the Marriott across from the convention center accepted my bid for Thursday through Sunday of finals week at $58 a night.
