  3. I can understand people being upset at the changes, and I won't begrudge them withholding their donations if they so choose. I'm just shocked, and somewhat saddened, to find that just about everything it means to be a Cadet is apparently inextricably tied to two colors.

As a Cadet alum, I get the tradition and the uneasiness with uni changes,facial hair etc but also want the corps to be as competitive as possible and agree the activity has changed and want Cadets to be innovators again which sadly means Maroon, Gold and Cream doing a Zpull at the end of show is not. I'm very excited after last nights webinar as are the caption heads and look forward to a new direction of excellence from the Cadets. Alumni should support the corps not bash them because things changed from when they marched. I loved the 80s but it's now 2016.

Long-time NY Skyliner, Ray Priester, passed away on Saturday night, April 30th ... he was Post Commander of the Garbarina-Mazarakos AL Post #1523 and a Veteran of the US Navy during the Viet Nam era ... he joined the Skyliners in 1967 and was a Lifetime Member ... he served as Director of Sky's Alumni Corps for several terms and was considered the de facto Corps Historian ... he will be greatly missed by the Skyliners and the entire Drum Corps community ...   12. I like the traditional Cadets uni, but I'm okay with the black. Uniforms don't do much for me either way. I'm just looking forward to Cadets doing more outrageous drill that really shouldn't even be attempted, and pulling it off.

  13. I'm a huge fan of theirs but parts of it never clicked for me. Maybe it'll be different if I listen without the visuals. Regardless, I can't wait to see what they have up their sleeve. So much talent - writers, designers and performers.

Very likely, but it might have been different if this didn't involve a new coach, an interim AD, and an athletic department that's in shambles (as evidenced by the BS-artist former AD resigning in disgrace, an uphill battle for fundraising a massive athletic facility, donors vocally pulling their support for aforementioned project, constant scandals among the athletes ... not to mention underachieving revenue sports ... and these combined aren't even the tip of the iceberg of how inept this athletic department is). I'm not saying DCI is blameless -- Dan A. even acknowledged it in the article -- but this isn't the action of a university athletic department that has its #### together.

  15. A lot of Cadets alum complain about the uniform every time there is a change to it. I did it when they changed it in 2003 (primarily because I thought it looked sloppy). People complained about it in the Angels and Demons show, but it worked (very well I might add). But today's drum corps shows seem to be a lot about the entire corps scheme instead of just the guard. So as much as I miss the M&G, I am perfectly fine with them changing the colors to match the theme of the show. As long as the original West Point style is there, I can get over the color.

The reasoning with Minnesota is likely quite simple: 1) the coach wanted his camp that particular weekend the DCI show as on 2) DCI naively (stupidly?) didn't have a contract 3) Minnesota dropped DCI in order to placate their football coach University Athletic Depart > outside event every day of the week

  19. The kids I sponsor are very excited and that's what counts to me. It's their time, they're amazingly talented, very respectful of the alumni and tradition and want to be competitive for themselves, those that came before and to leave a legacy for those to follow.

As one of the original "founding" members of C2 at the ripe old age of 23 at the time, and NOT the oldest person in the hornline who was a 30-something year old school principal, being in the group was a privilege and it was fun to be a professional horn player that happened to want to march. And it was a pleasure to teach students who were younger than me last season.

  25. They would first need to know what a cost-benefit analysis actually is; which is highly unlikely. One has a better chance of nailing water to a tree trunk than understanding the reasoning of their decision. Most kiddies running a lemonade stand have more business sense than these particular university boneheads.

  26. While there are lawyers out there who are unscrupulous and unethical, it is the job of all lawyers to stand for the rule of law. But what you are advocating is that for the sake of the kids and the niche activity lawyers should actually be unscrupulous and unethical by just looking the other way when people steal other people’s intellectual property. What does that teach kids about honor, justice, and character?

  28. Looks really nice to me, the plumes are really cool. LOVE the guard. Those two together will look really nice together. Uniform has some breaking up that last years desperately needed. Think what you want about them not being in Marroon and Gold, but they definitely improved on them in my mind. Excited to see them from up top.

  30. I'm gonna be lurking for the most part on here until July, have some huge exam prep to do. Needless to say though, I'm absolutely ecstatic for this show! I'm continually impressed with BD's ability to come up with themes so familiar yet unique. The addition of Justin Bieber irks me a little bit all the Gordon Goodwin cancels it out

  31. Not sure what it is, but since 08, these BD shows are all just amazing me the more I watch them(maybe I'm turning into a BD homer?), as is this show repertoire rather intriguing. Still listen to BD 03' though, that's probably my second favorite behind 09'!

Provided that you isolate the Constitution from the Declaration of Independence, from the philosophy of Enlightenment, from the Judeo-Christian ideals on where Human Rights are believed to originate from God, then yep you are correct. But the Founding Fathers encompassed all of this into their belief structure when drafting the Constitution; they did not divorce themselves from the belief that Rights originate from God. You can believe that they were 'wrong in their belief', but you cannot say that is not what they believed. Moreover, when it comes to ‘interpretation’ we should, must place our mindsets in those who penned the Constitution who believed the following: 1) “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights…” Those who side with Ginsberg would say that the passage should mean what we want it to today, not what it meant to those who wrote it over 200 years ago. And one of the changes in definition within this statement comes from the word ‘certain’ which has a vastly different usage today than how the Founding Fathers actually used that word; to them it was a word of Emphasis, a word of well… Certainty, that Rights are unalienable and come from the Creator, not a word of Exclusion claiming that there are Man-Made Rights which are not unalienable (see next quote). 2) “…that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” The Founding Fathers believed that there are a plethora of Rights, too many to list, so to keep this document distenct they placed the words ‘among these’ into the passage to make sure we would not take it that only those three exist. 3) “--That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed” Man is to create a governing body from the consent of the people that allows them the power to govern and protect the Rights, not to create the Rights. 4) The entirety of the Declaration also has five references to God the Creator as the guiding authority on these matters. 5) The Constitution is an extension of, not a completely separate document from, but an extension of the Declaration. That is how the Founding Fathers viewed the two documents; inseparable; and therefore saw no reason to reiterate in the Constitution where Rights our come from; and it is also a reason the two documents are side by side on display even today in D.C. 6) The Founding Fathers did recognize that Rights of an Individual and Rights of the Public will sometimes be at odds in this flawed world in which we live. So the manner of governance and protection of our Rights, the exclusivity to the individual v the usefulness for the public of our Rights, the idea that that Rights can be taken away via due process if a crime is committed, was hotly debated during the drafting of the Constitution. 7) The Bill of Rights were also hotly debated, but they were never limited in scope as to Rights being unalienable; That debate was over who should have more power in goverance, Federal or States, and thus a compromise was reached. Instead of listing a wide array like Madison, Mason, and Jay desired the Framers settled on those Rights listed in the first nine amendments, and gave the power of protecting all other Rights over the States. They did not believe that Rights come from Man, but that Man is charged by the Creator, by God, with protecting those Rights 8) Again this is not ‘my interpretation’ but the actual views of most of the Founders who penned the documents. Thus the passage in Article 1 Section 8 concerning the rights of Arts and Sciences has to be, must be viewed in this manner. Unless of course you agree with Ginsberg and then you also believe this entire posting of mine is hogwash.

  36. Check out the May issue of drumcorpsworld.com. Gary Dickelman does it again. He has a knack of capturing the spirit, emotion, and culture of world class drum corps. His article on page 20 is on Crown's last off-season camp. If it doesn't get you excited about Crown's season and wanting more, nothing will.

  43. Not where I can check the lineups, but will TOC shows have a "guest" Corps for each show as they have had recently? Also: Is anyone else irked at the new DCI Schedule design? Previously, you could click on a show and without leaving the full list the lineup would appear in a panel on the right. I really hate it that I have to click and click and click to compare shows or to see where 2 corps appear in the same shows.

  44. OMG, same people bickering as before.... I like trombones. They sound good. They're prettier when they're silver. I see they will be used in 2016. Can't wait to see when a corps decides to actually march them in a show. I better they'll be ok.

  45. You're forgetting security...stuff gets stolen out of facilities sometimes. A corps renting a school DOES have the right to protect the assets of itself and it's members, in addition to protecting the safety of it;s members.
