  1. Thanks for the news clip link! I am stuck in Hawaii following surgery and have been staying in touch with my son who is marching trumpet. Currently SCV is rehearsing at San Gabriel High -School and will move to Maranatha High School in Pasadena on the 1st. -- The group is a mix of current A and Cadet corps members & alums from 2013-2016. By way of comparison, the 2004 Rose Parade group was split 50/50 between current (at the time) A & Cadet MMs and FMMs representing all decades (youngest was 12, oldest was 62). -- The group is bigger than 2004. -- When I asked my kid what it was like playing with A-Corps members all he said was, "Dad, those dudes are gods." He is learning so much! -- They will lead off the parade, march the route, then hustle back to do the closing ceremonies. EDITS: -- Just watched the clip -- great closeup of Tim's (86-87 SCV DM) son! -- Here is a photo my son sent me this morning:

  4. What John and Mike have said. Cadets are in good hands with Bobby Jones. He knows his stuff, no question.

  6. I'll echo what Xanandl said, watch anything from the Reading Buccaneers over the past decade. Bobby is a *master* at staging brass and percussion. His work for Bucs last summer was, in my opinion, his best yet. That show was incredibly well designed, without being overly hard (Reading had gotten into an arms race with themselves over the last five or six years, and backed it off a tad for 2016). His high school drill is also very, very good, particularly his work with Liberty HS in Maryland. I've judged them on a number of occasions, and he always writes with the music in mind.

  7. 89 Blue Devils DCI used prelims recording for at least the frack solo, maybe more?

  8. I still like..." Can't take my eyes off of you" though. I predict BK will have their full visual show ready before July for the summer's competition this season. I think they've learned their past lessons regarding incomplete shows, and unpreparedness to enter the early season competition's scheduled shows. I expect big things from them this season as a result.

  9. Wait.... Didn't there used to be a show at Mapfre stadium? Ok, went and check. 2006 Artistry in Motion at Columbus Crew's stadium. http://corpsreps.com/scores.cfm?view=scoreshow&showid=2006581 2009 http://corpsreps.com/scores.cfm?view=scoreshow&showid=2009062 (Then there were shows forever at the Old Cooper Stadium for like 20 years.) Quite a few years in Dublin (Columbus Suburb) too! I think the earliest one I remember was 1992 for Dublin. Yes, Mapfre stadium seems like a very excellent stadium for a drum corps show.

  10. So I was literally on a NJ Transit train headed to The City from Newark this past weekend and I was looking over at that soccer stadium and said to myself that they should have a drum corps show in there. Looks like it was a prophecy: https://yea.org/programs/cadets/cadets/news/1476-the-cadets-home-shows-return-to-nj This is fantastic in my opinion. That stadium looks great and I hope the sound is as great as Talen.

  11. YAAAAAAY, now the Cadets won't be the only corps to be absolutely destroyed for using voice. Just Kidding. I have become a little more open-minded when it comes to using voice primarily because of the sampling that was used in Cadets 2011 and Crown 2015. If it sounds something like that, or better, then I am sure I will like it as well.

  12. Not strictly 2017-program related, but Troop has just unloaded a gob of goosebumps with the final video of its end-of-year fundraising campaign.
