  1. This indeed IS my fave show of the year! SCV a close 2nd... what lures me is the wonderful flow of the show..... to me (IMHO) everything just 'gels' from the opening to the end..... the voice overs are appropriate, moving and accurate. The guard and percussion really SELL the theme while brass leads you into a stellar musical journey that makes you want to listen to it over & over, and over! From the intro to the vocalist, to the portrayal of the '######' it all tells the story as it builds. The ending is raw, perfectly executed and literally blows us away. Smoke, fire and brimstone.... ties it all together! This staff (and these performers) have put together something extraordinary and we the fans and spectators can be transported through their skill, artistry and performance! Actually being a fan of Bostons for the past 4-5 years (I'm a Phantom homer) that I am SO ELATED that is This corps has that has been able to experience a 'rebirth' as you will with new blood, new vision, new horizons to meet! I love Gino, Colin and the others who embarked on this transition - no assurance of what they would meet and MADE IT the show EVERYONE (well almost everyone) is talking about! I can't wait to see it live in Clifton & Allentown. I want to feel the enthusiasm, the pride, the achievement from the staff & members when I sit in on a rehearsal then see the show live. Isn't it that way for all of us? In some ways it is... can you imagine being one of these marching members at BAC? I can't even.... I liken it to possibly having the winning lottery numbers, but no one will tell them if they have all the #'s correct until finals! Truth be told, my greatest joy was when I was volunteering and seeing, meeting, and being around the members and staff that make up this thing called DCI. I want to see Boston 4th, or higher - and maybe a new Champion! When I say new, not ne that has won in the past 5 yrs! I always root for the underdog...and, with my two fave brass arrangers in the thick of things, I couldn't be happier! Neither can these kids..... they pay and dedicate long, hot, endless hours in all conditions to bring 10-11 minutes of musical and visual euphoria to us in any means they choose... we are the benefactors of all their hard work! Let enjoy the rest of the season! Here's to you Gino, Colin and ALL the BAC MM's, staff, support staff and anyone who has seen this wondrous treinvigoration of a fantastic corps and organization!

  2. As I have said elsewhere, there should be two color guard judges for all regionals and all contests (p/s/f) of Championship week. Add both scores together and divide by 2 for the guard score. Guards today compromise as much of 1/3 of the membership of some corps. This is too much for just one person's responsibilities, particularly persons with biases, preferred approaches, and occasionally an off night because the guard is wearing the judge's ex's favorite color. In a season when faux guards, real guards, mosquito netting, and pole dancing are debated, the whole idea of judging guards has to be re-evaluated as different from indoor WGI.

  3. I will never ever ever understand wishing a corps failure. That really disgusts me.

  4. I'll throw my two cents in. I like the ending for the theatrics of it. It is one the best effects of any corps this year, if not the best effect. It's not just another static prop. It is dynamic and is intended to be just that. To the point of creating a sad moment, something specifically sad at the end would diminish the dynamic created. Thoughout the production, if you look into all the actions of the MM's you will find sadness, anger, hysteria, cruelty. The portrayal of Salem witch trials and the message being sent is, to me, obvious. No need to contrive an additional unnecessary element. All that being said, if there were an added component being planned, this design staff has shown they are complete in their thought and incorporation into an amazingly well designed show from a visual and musical standpoint. There would be little question as to whatever is done, if anything, it would be very apropos. Now, everyone play nice. Let the designers design, techs clean and the kids perform the ever living hell out of this show! Eat em up Boston.

  6. What the heck is up with corps in which members are wearing no hats or shakos? The hat/shako was the crowing point of a uniform and truly identified a corps. Especially The Vanguard. Call me a fuddy-duddy, but I'm not liking this trend in DCI at all.

  7. Since the Chuffed site was being difficult when paying through PayPal, I went directly to the pioneer website and donated through paypal (less fees). It should be noted that Pioneer has been touring for years rarely asking for money (some corps are better at that than others). Each year they have asked, I have given because I know that they stretch every dollar as far as they (Roman) can. As much as we can do to sustain corps through donations, the better. https://pioneer-corps.org/contribute/make-a-donation.html

  13. A 2-minute feature, square on the 50, with extremely intricate timing and a lot of body happening beneath the work, is a feature to the nth degree. It's definitely a risk, but not for the reason you mean: it's a risk because it's very hard and extremely exposed. The timing of those sequential entries is pretty unreal, and so is the timing of the work itself. Mentally, the phrases have to be counted out in double time, but the whole production still needs to feel extremely relaxed, like a cool breeze, just chilling, look how easy this is, even with all the tricky exchanges from hand to hand. (This is what BD fans mean by hidden demand!) The guard members know that the work itself is once-in-a-lifetime good. They aren't worried about the design risk; they're worried about living up to it.

  14. I will admit that a 4th would be a HUGE upset...they are almost in range...but first things first...Cavies are next in line...Can they do it? I HOPE so :)

  19. Ho hum... This page speaks to the reasons why many people stop coming here to post and chat. A few seem to think they know the truth and reality and must come to post on a daily bases their opinions on the Cadets short comings as if we here are stupid and are living in a cave.. We know the members come here. We know it is better to stay positive and supportive. I hope that these people will take a chill pill, think about how negative and hurtful their posts are and how annoying they are to most of us and maybe find something else to do than come to DCP. You have every right to post your opinion. It is just the way in which you do it ALL season that annoys the poop out of many of us.

  23. Some intense cleaning is taking place again today in Little Rock! Friday starts are run of 4 consecutive shows followed by a couple of days of intense rehearsals in Newark, Ohio. This will be the second year in a row to spend a couple of days in Newark. Last year's open rehearsal attracted 2,000 folks! This year's open rehearsal will be on Wednesday, August 2. More on that over the weekend.

  24. TOTALLY agree, I hope your live viewing experience is as amazing as mine was. Easily a highlight of my time as a drum corps fan. The sky is the limit for this corps in the coming years, and this years is just the beginning. And what a hell of a start it is.

  25. I've said my piece on this before, but I feel strongly enough about it that I'll say it again. I think it's a HUGE mistake to let go so much of what has made each corps identity in the headgear and uniforms. I too am certainly hoping it's a fad. The headgear makes the visual from midway to the top of the stands pop so much more and adds so much presence and height to the corps. it's part of what always made corps like Vanguard, Cavaliers, Cadets, BD, Scouts and Phantom larger than life to me. And to those parroting the current staff propagandists, NO, there is absolutely no connection to the audience gained going hatless unless you are sitting in the bottom few rows of the stadium. Instead, you've further sacrificed visual clarity on the field from the top 2/3s of each stadium and given away a great deal of the mystique that made many fall in love with corps. I think Blue Knights are a great example. They've done so well with those great shakos and Plumes and it was a nice visual effect and clarity point for them in recent years. Their visual program this year is so lackluster by comparison. The WGI judge that recently commented about hating the hats in DCI. That's all that's wrong with what's continuing to be a stage-like or WGI influence on Drum Corps show design, IMO. I remember sitting with some newbies at a DCI Dallas Lake Highlands show years ago as Phantom marched out onto the field and their comment was something along the lines of "My God, they look like giants - absolutely regal" That's a mystique that is a vital part of many corps identity that I hope makes a quick return. 26. I have to respectfully disagree. Boston's "up" ending is one of the most effective, crowd pleasing, baby throwing moments in all of DCI this year. Why would anyone want to mess with that by putting in a down ending? Yikes!

  29. Well. They do seem more than capable of hanging in there with the Cavies. If it's one thing, Boston groups are good at upsets. Especially in 2017... lol

  30. The gap between Bostonand Cadets had been tightening up but may now be widening if tonight is any indication. After tomorrow Boston will have a couple of days to do a bit more layering and cleaning. Holy crap are they getting good. They may also have gained ground on Cavies and certainly did on Bluecoats tonight. This is quite a ride so far. Where can it go? Eat em up Boston!

  36. Some of the discussion on this show this year has been pretty........interesting. I can't speak for anyone else but my pretty enthusiastic responses in Belton and San Antonio were because the show and MMs blew me away for twelve minutes, not because I'm cheering at the portrayal of someone getting burnt at the stake at the very end. I can't say joy and happiness are the kinds of emotions I felt watching this show on a thematic basis but I'm totally okay with other emotions too, it's refreshing honestly. I guess if we're down to talking artistic liberties and how crowds are interpreting it rather than parts of the show or performance aspects.........things must be going pretty #### well on the field. And they certainly are. :) Just found that interesting........carry on. Can't wait to see the show again.

  43. That's one way of looking at it. On the other hand, as a Bluecoats fan, there was something pretty bad$$@ about the look of those dark helmets and the unis from 07-12. 13-15 were pretty cool too. But, the tough looking, here we are look, connected pretty darn well with me and many others. Facial expressions of the kids on the field isn't nearly as awesome as aura of bad$$@ery!
