  1. Yeah, the more I think about it, the more Amelia might make sense. Wonder if there are any old Windmill motors which can be fashioned into propeller blades....

  2. It would be hugely ironically funny that if, after all of these years of Cadets saying they're doing Pearl Harbor and changing it, Boston just went and did it first... Mike

  5. I think they’re who I’m most excited to see where they go from last year. That was a helluva jump in one year like we haven’t seen in awhile, but it’s much more difficult to move up at the top. I’m confident in their abilities though, nice little teaser with lots of possibilities. Can’t wait! :)

  6. I actually thought of Ameila Earhart also....but I couldn't recall (without researching it online) if she ever got off an SOS or not. But, it probably wouldn't matter since after all, we are the corps who burned the witches in Salem!

  7. Side note. It is kind of cool and rewarding to see shows I marched mentioned in this thing. I am under no illusion that they would contend for the top ... they shouldn't. But I am surprised that those older shows get mention against the powerhouse and consistency of modern bloo.

  10. What about 2005... The Zone: Dreamscapes in Four Parts with a Door you know, just in case you didn't see the large door on the 50 yard line

  11. First pass votes in my household: Daughter: Lord of the Flies or Gilligan's Island Wife: Lost Me: Robinson Crusoe whatever it is I love the mystery and creativity of the trailer. Great way for interest to be generated. In my opinion SOS is the key which wouldn't lean toward Lord of the Flies or Robinson Crusoe. Well done Boston.

  14. Don’t worry. We’ll be clean and we’ll be strong. The horn line is even better than last year. We have a higher average of music majors this year as well and the energy at camps is amazing! It’ll be a different group this year for sure and we’ll be learning how to really perform to the audience. Having all of are music is also something we didn’t have last year. We got our music for the closer when we were learning the closer during spring training so the preparation for this upcoming season is nothing close to where we were last year and we’re moving in a week earlier this year. We’re gonna bring Crossmen back to where they used to be. It’ll be an exciting summer!

  15. And now for the rest of the story. JC's wife didn't want him marching with women in the brass line, especially the middle voice section, so he took his horn and went home. Pajama Joe aka. Camel Joe - a baritone - didn't want any women in the corps, let alone the brass section. Joe was never right about anything - EVER. Like so many, it's now all irrelevant. Like so many others Terri, you tarnished a perfectly good junior corps career by joining in the first place.

  16. I have no idea what the actual theme is going to be, but I just love that the design team made a connection to their Morse code identity (i.e. the “BAC” Morse code).

  17. Just heard music. I don’t know what the theme is going to be. They sound great, though.

  18. What hasn't been mentioned from the video is the BAC 2018 looks like it was done in sand instead of "Help". I wonder if Tom Hanks is now on board as an advisor. If there's a chance it's history related, maybe the history buffs out there can figure out what may have taken place 50 years or so ago.

  19. The teasers are very cool. Wouldn't a doubled jump be nice? 12 to 6, 6 to 3? A lot to expect but so long as they can move up at all, that would be very cool. The top 12 is just so crazy competitive.

  20. If they really wanted to make it a study/commentary, they'd stick with the oft-heard, much-cursed standard iPhone ringtone...

  24. 84 BD sop John Hendrickson (La Fiesta trio) and cymbal Rob Norment aged out with 85 Madison (Rob was in the guard). 84 mello Tim Spilde also aged out with 85 Mad...but in his case, he was going BACK to Madison....he'd followed his girlfriend to BD. As for BD/SCV cross-membership....more people have gone red to blue than the reverse.

  26. 1. 2015 - Kinetic Noise My hands-down favorite show of all time. It has everything I could ever want. It makes me bob my head. The ballad is gorgeous. There's a stereo contra feature. I'm sold. 2. 2005 - Caravan Loved the music. Really fun concept that married the version 1.0 Bluecoats with Blood 2.0. Right show. Right year. 3. 2017 - Jagged Line Lots of attitude in the visual program. Though I usually FF through the ballad, Psychopomp and Zomby Woof are 2 of my favorite arrangements anyone has ever done. If anyone out there hasn't listened to the Thank You Scientist album that Psychopomp comes from, check it. One of my favorite current bands, and a potential killer source of more field material in the future for some groups. 4. 2016 - Downside Up I'll never forget seeing this live for the first time in spring training and thinking how the entire activity was about to change forever. The last 30 seconds of this might be my favorite 30 seconds ever in a show. These guys came out every night like a cross between rock stars and super heroes. If I could get a time machine and march any show ever, this is it. 5. 2001 - Latin Sketches The winter camp where the corps read through Red Cape Tango for the first time was the moment the corps shifted for good. Guard choreo. in the ballad was gorgeous. Honorable mentions: 1999 - The Music of Chick Corea (got me hooked with Armando's Rhumba) 2008 - The Knockout (ballad and closer... YES) 1998 - Four Seasons of Jazz (gratuitous screaming and maybe the Autumn Leaves that's aged the best) 1986 - untitled (Hungarian Dance no. 5... only jazz? Really fun to listen to) 2000 - Threshold (because I'm definitely gonna end this list on a biased note. Also, the closer w/ duet)

  27. Two guys in Kilties all-age quit because they let me in the brassline. I wouldn’t have blamed them if they’d quit because of the female they let in after me that season. I spoke to the corps before they voted and said that they should do what they want. It wasn’t the end of the world if they didn’t let me in. It would have been dumb to not let me in however because I was a much better brass player than most of them. Just sayin.

  28. "As long as it based on recruiting the best talent, that should work. If they want to recruit women because they believe it is fair, that should work. " Exactly. If one wants to be pragmatic about this, I see time and time again comments about the top DCI corps having the best talent. If a corps effectively doubles the potential talent pool for members, you should end up with a more talented membership. About what I said earlier, the only thing that comes to mind from that comment I heard is the "He-Man Women-Haters Club" from the Little Rascals. It was silly then, it's even more silly now.

  31. I remember getting to Franklin Field to watch DCI Finals that year and being absolutely stunned that the Garfield Cadets had not made it to the night show. They seemed like a stone lock going into the weekend. I could live 300 more years and never figure out what happened. It was a pretty good Finals that year, featuring an overwhelming performance by the magnificent Blue Devils, and the sheer fun of the "new" Bridgemen. Plus some new faces... Guardsmen, Freelancers, Seneca Optimists. The Optimists' electric-yellow uniforms... wow. To date, one of the brightest unis I've ever seen.

  32. From what I've heard, Brandon Olander is not only back in the line....but has achieved the quadfecta of BD drumming. Win DCI: Check Win the Sanford: Check Win snare I&E: Check Become Center snare: CHECK! Wondering how many others have done that....pretty sure ScoJo did.
