Great job tonight Crown! The BEAST released a high percussion, high brass, high music night. Visual gap that had been big has tightened. Hoping to see GE tighten some more tomorrow. Good luck in St. Louis!8 points

Crown has CLEANED UP! I don't care about the scores. Crown literally made me cry and got the crowd on its feet before cutoff! Bluecoats had their system turned up a bit too far so the sound was distorted and made it hard to watch let alone enjoy. Spirit surprised me, could make a run for finals. Surf was good, but seemed to be loud Loud LOUD. Best show I've seen from them in years though. Music City was amazing and I have a new love for them. I look for great things from them in the near future. Biggest surprise of the night was Tradition. I saw them last year and it was honestly rough. They were pretty great this year. posted from the DrumScorps app7 points

Worth mentioning that STL will have the first full-scale regional judging panel of the season, including the premiere of the brand-new second Music Analysis judge. http://www.fromthepressbox2.com/20180715dcimidwestern.pdf7 points

I’m almost 90% sure SCV is our 2018 DCI World Champion. I’ve been a part of this activity for awhile and this show is so fresh, energetic and innovative.6 points

Oh my goodness!! Could you imagine the reactions of the Madison alums on the various social media pages if this were to ever happen?6 points

small hint.....there's still far more males participating in drum corps than females. And if you create shows and hire people that kids want to be a part of....talent comes. gender aside, Madison's leadership is echoing many of the things people complained about for cadets the last several years6 points

For god’s sake, no! That moment needs to be silent so we can hear the SNAP!5 points

I'll be there! Due to a recent move, I can't go to more than one show this year. I do love the atmosphere and good crowd that this show brings. Plus, I've made it a point not to watch any shows before now, so 1st viewings of everyone tonight.5 points

I love Albert Lo as a Brass judge. I’ve heard an interview or two from him and I can never forget his classic appearance in the multi cam video of Phantom Regiment 2007’s firebird closer where the corps spins and plays the final chord and he just turns around and smiles.5 points

It was very noticable to the point that a 13 year old I brought who had never seen a show live, but plenty of videos, said they looked cleaner. I would also like to say that I brought 3 newbies to the show. One 13 year old, a 14 year old, and a 36 year old (13 year olds mom and my bestie). Crown starts playing during rehearsal (the opener), the 13 year olds jaw dropped, and immediately started crying mouthing "It's so good!!!". Lol. Very enjoyable day/night. 3 new drum corps fans today!4 points

Wish they'd have gone with a few 'characters' from the Stanley Kubrick movie though too. And that door is begging for someone to axe through it by season's end.4 points

If I make it to Indy this year, I'm gonna wear a jersey with "BOXINGFRED" across the back just for the free beer! Seriously, though, thanks BF!4 points

I guess you have to be forced to eat it at a very young age to acquire a taste. We’re in a hotel room with only one bathroom. We were afraid we were going to recreate the bathroom scene from Bridesmaids.4 points

This is a shout-out to Cavaliers and DCI for honoring two of my longtime friends for all they have done for the corps (and DCI.) Adolph DeGrauwe, alum and twice Director of the corps, is a featured honoree for the corps' 70th. While not around for all 70 years although most of them, Adolph did yeomans work saving the corps from ruin several tenures over the years. On the DCI board he was so often the voice of common sense which put in check some of the more wild schemes of other directors who have since become notorious. I am particularly indebted to him for the way I was always welcomed about the corps particularly this situation. One of my five sisters had gotten her first job out of college in Evanston and had been the victim of a tragic car accident as a passenger on busy Chicago winter streets. She was in intensive care there for more than two weeks. I flew out to be with her for that time. Knowing me from the Cadets and having sent Dave Flynn to Cavies back in the '70's, The Cavaliers under Adolph reached out to me providing me with transportation, concern, and inviting me each night to join them for the winter guard practices after I finished my hospital rounds for the day. That relationship continued when I eventually headed back East and returned frequently as the winter season developed and my sister received her out of hospital care. I was invited back for the remaining seasons that the corps had a winter guard. As I bury a different sister this week in Greater Chicago, my family and I continue to cherish the outreach of the Cavaliers which helped my family and me in our hour of need. Scott Rhebergen was a contra for Cavies and his brother also marched there. Scott went on to marry Dave Flynn's sister Marybeth. It was their father Jim Flynn who had given me my first paid instructor's job as a simple winter guard tech back in the early seventies. When the Flynn family moved to Illinois, our friendship continued and I learned of all the transportation and other logistical work Scott rendered to the corps behind the scenes. This nearly spands three decades now. Two of Dave's sons followed their father into the Green Machine where he had become DM after Jeff Fiedler's tenure. Now Dave has been on BoD for many years. Scott and Marybeth's sons Andrew and Patrick also followed the example of the father, Andrew going on to become the DM for Cavies as well. You remember him as the DM who high-hurdled the pit instruments to make it to the front podium in time to hold the other DM upside down while conducting the drummers playing upside down. These past seasons Andrew has been on SCV's visual staff, first under his former Mt. Prospect guru Pete Weber, now under former Cavie celebrity Michael Gaines. Scott has always been a friend, a humble and dedicated person who has helped out many corps quietly along tour. Now DCI rightly returns the favor and honors him as DCI Volunteer of the year. It is of such greats in all our corps which makes our activity the wonder that it is. Thank you for all you have done and all you do.4 points

I really don't know how anyone cannot see this SCV show and not have it as their favorite to win finals. It's not even that they don't have a single weakness, it's that every single section is so good and the show is nonstop brilliance.3 points

Fred - thanks for all the videos you’ve done. We appreciate your efforts. I can only make the Winston-Salem, Chester, & Allentown shows prior to finals. If I get to meet you in Indianapolis, we owe you a beer or two! Do you have a son or daughter in one of the corps? posted from the DrumScorps app3 points

The Battalion will undoubtedly push for world class in about 5 years. They’re building a smart organization, expanding their tour each year, and they know how to design for their members’ abilities. posted from the DrumScorps app3 points
