If i'm correct, i believe Mandarins' score ties their world class best score set in semis last year.11 points

I just watched the end of a scope of BD, and I heard some audience members shouting "Bloooooooo!" I don't think they quite understand how this works...11 points

Stupid #### like “history” and “tradition” and “loyalty” and not wanting to let the corps fold is what keeps bad organizations from getting shut down when they should be. It’s marching band. Drum corps needs to get over itself. There are plenty of OC corps that would offer a better experience. Old timers bemoan the loss of corps but the fact is that many of them were financial disasters that couldn’t take care of their members. Doesn’t and shouldn’t fly in 2018.9 points

So I am sitting in the parking lot waiting for the cars to clear. I want to say to @Cappybara that BD almost changed my mind tonight, but I am still sticking with Bloo, but if you want the most difficult drill look to cadets. I was blown away by Mandarins. I think they should be beating phantom and maybe even Blue Knights....that guard...its so awesome there are no words.8 points

Troopers are a shining example of how a group with a storied history and tradition can go on hold when it needs to and use those traits to come out on the other side that much stronger. Take a break. Get it right. If corps cannot make that process work out, then it probably wasn't meant to be in the first place.8 points

Looking forward to my padded seat and cup holder a week from Thursday. Now, if I can get through that day without a toddler making poopypants twice during prelims, that would be great.5 points

True, but the scores are fairly tight in the top 8 or so. According to DCP weighted scores, Cadets are about 1 percussion point (1/2 actual point) away from a top 3 percussion. Not too shabby, but yes 8th is 8th.5 points

Bloooo was FANTASTIC tonight in C'ville. I've seen the show live several times now, but tonight was, by far, the BEST. Firing on ALL cylinders.5 points

He wasn’t mean. He was whimsical. Plus, if I recall, he was right about what (or more correctly, who) was the problem.4 points

from what I just saw on Periscope, it seemed like the Cadets had a great run, tore the house down.4 points

Just feels like this is the weekend at Allentown...the current 3 all on the night before and Crown on last the second night. Seems like a desirable setup.4 points

I’m sitting on the 50, ten rows up, and the acoustics absolutely ROCK!!! And there are plenty of seats remaining, all around me.4 points

I wish Cadets/YEA would move their base of operations to Annapolis and DCI East would move there or M&T in Baltimore - time to get out of Allentown. It's been fun but let's get real... it's time for a fresh start in unpolluted waters (meaning GH pollution)4 points

There are 2 married alums there. Their son is marching Contra for Crossmen. Great people. Go Bones!!!!! posted from the DrumScorps app4 points

To me, it's kind of strange that anyone would feel the need to go on a Phantom Regiment thread to tell them they didn't deserve to win a show that happened 10 years ago.4 points

It’s telling that this thread was more pleasant when we were talking about the current 2018 edition of Phantom Regiment4 points

Thanks! We had our best run of the weekend mini tour. Lots of work got done and the organization handled the tour well. No more performances until DCA prelims. The rehearsal schedule is in place to integrate some minor changes and planned layering. Plus a few prop surprises. Back to work and getting better.4 points

I don't buy for 1 second that JD felt it was a fluke or left because he felt it was a fluke. That's just silly. I'm sure every single person that was involved in Regiment in '08, every single person who was ever involved in Regiment in any way, and every single fan who has loved them for years (or just started loving them that year) were weeping in joy. I know I was. I was so happy for that entire organization that night, even though I marched in a rival of theirs and wasn't very fond of them when I marched :)3 points

Agree, completely. While every corps should tag on 10 sec of applause pause at the end, this moment doubly needs it for the audience to take it all in.3 points

Seems like the judges were on board too! Finally giving the drums some love; Cavies are no joke this year. Go Bloooo3 points

That's a little bit of a stretch; however, I don't disagree with your thinking... I too would rather the emotional / entertaining show to win... but the scoring platform isn't designed with goosebumps & tears in mind. Which brings us back to: 2008 was a very, very strong 2nd place show, that got bumped into 1st by an overly emotional music panel. (and an overly emotional me screaming "I am Spartacus" in the stands)3 points

Wait. Judges aren't 100% objective ? Can't be. Next you'll be telling me Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny aren't real.3 points

Made a last-minute decision to drive down for this one. Got to the stadium just before 7 p.m. but the lines to buy tickets were long, so I only heard Tradition from behind the stadium. From there, they sounded good, and it's nice to see they got a boost in score from the previous night. At Massillon, the best and most expensive seats sell out first. At Centerville, the worst and cheapest seats sell out first. I wanted a good seat, so that worked out for me. Tired after the seven-hour round trip, so just a couple quick thoughts: Everyone's amplification was too loud, from Jubal to Bloo. And I was on the 50 more than 20 rows up, high enough to occasionally hear the judges (although not to make out what they were saying), so it's not like I was planted in front of a speaker. TURN THE AMPS DOWN. That said, the three corps who will make Finals were much better about this than the lower-ranking corps. Cascades and Academy were probably the worst in this regard. Music City and Spirit of Atlanta: your generators are annoying. Everybody is messier than they have appeared to me on Flo. That said, I usually watch the streams on high camera, and it was nice to see details I missed. Until tonight, I had no idea BK's show had an Egyptian theme. Speaking of BK, they have some very impressive brass passages. Jubal's show seems more difficult than The Company's last year, but it's also in rougher shape. Anyway, this was my first live show this year (had to work on the night of Akron), and I'm very glad to have made this trip.3 points

Great job by Bloo tonight. I've seen them several times this year, but this was the best yet. Corps was firing on ALL cylinders for sure. Seemed to be the clear crowd favorite. As usual, a very good crowd, but I have to admit I was a little disappointed in the lack of enthusiasm I saw with some of the bands in attendance. Maybe they're tired from band camp? Also thought it strange that Cavies "Africa" encore seemed to get a more spirited response than did their "Oh What A World/Bolero" closer. Thought they too were very good tonight. This was Soaring Sounds #39. I've been to many of them, including #1. It's a great fund raiser for the outstanding Centerville Jazz Band. I don't see them moving it, but I do agree it's one of the more "uncomfortable" stadiums in Ohio. Also one-way out and one-way in is a bit crazy for such a huge school. Really good performances by all of the corps tonight. I hope Music City stays with the high entertainment format for a while. First time for me to see Arizona live and they really delivered, but at the moment I've got to go with Spirit of Atlanta or Crossmen to make top 12. By the way, and this should have been announced tonight...Spirit was in Soaring Sounds #1. Again, great job Bloo. or maybe even more... good job judges.3 points

the design key is to be "The Scouts" without going back to the past and going retro. It just doesnt work. 11 and 13 were good steps in that directions. The key is finding ways to incorporate Madisonisms into good solid design of today. Cavies and Boston have moments like that. SCV has some great nods to Vanguard past in the show if you look at them close enough. BD is probably jazzier than theyve been in a decade plus. Cadets have some great "past" moments in the show. But returning to superman suits with JCS 3, malagaguena v 2000, etc isn't going to work. Really, if i had my druthers and they did revist the past, I'd love to see Pirates of Lake Mendota with todays costuming and props.....but thats the only show from the past I'd want to see3 points

The Scouts basically did this in 2010 to much success. Doing it again in 2019 could be an even bigger success. As many corps have entered the jumpsuit-spandex,no-hat, here’s my face look, Madison would look pretty darn fresh in the old Scout’s uni’s and a more traditional show. If any corps could get a lot of mileage by returning to their roots, it is Madison. 2019 will be ripe for tradition.3 points

So far rehearsal has been focusing almost entirely on the section between between the opener and the entrance of the soldier. Very little comments have been made about the brass by the staff, they have been focusing on visual transitions and consistency in the intensity of body movements and horn snaps. All of the changes to visual transitions are being made on the fly and implemented flawlessly, it’s amazing to see the efficiency. Now work is being done on the ballad! Also, I don’t believe for a second that this is a 4th place hornline3 points
