A modern show finally made for all the Dino's of drumcorps...haha

Somehow this thread got from Verdi's tuning preferences to Rachel's wardrobe choices. I suppose there is some connection that can be established, however. At Fran's announcement, when she did her "reveal", many in the audience emitted a sound that approximated a howling chorus of coyotes, not unlike most mellophone sections in the early days as they struggled to find common pitch with the rest of the brass world. Verdi's reactions to either event remain unknown.

If mere posters on here kill his dreams he shouldn't be auditioning for a DCI corps in the first place; just sayin'.

My school never housed a corps before. When I approached administration about housing I told them i would be on site the entire time the corps was there. i slept in my office and ate my meals with the corps. It was great! I had the chance to watch how a world class corps rehearses, had the opportunity to interact with members and staff and see everything that goes on "behind the scene." I called it Drum Corps Fantasy Camp. It opened doors for me to become involved when I retired and there were absolutely no problems. My school has been housing corps for 12 years now.

Not gonna go through 11 pages...but did anyone mention 84 BD? Asking for 127 friends.

It is kind of funny. At the end of every season when I marched, I would be exhausted and vow “This is my last season.” That feeling would last about two weeks and then I would start pining for fall rehearsals to begin.

I too have thought horses in a Troopers show would be amazing, especially in 2015 where horses were so prominent. PETA would no doubt object, but my guess is that others would too, including those who love a good steak and don’t look to see if their dozen eggs are from cage free chickens. A DCI tour would never be compatible with proper care for horses, and if they did not use the same horses at each show, training them takes time and commitment, so you could not rent and train horses in Boston and if your next stop is Philadelphia, rent and train other horses in time for the show. Anyone who has ever marched in a parade that competed after Crown in 2007 is probably eternally grateful the Rose Bowl and DCI said now just in case a “pooper scooper” missed a spot.

Drum Corps is a great experience for most who march, no matter the Corps, no matter the years they marched. Both Drum Corps you mentioned here, ie the Mandarins and Academy are fine Corps that likely will provide you with wholesome enjoyment and personal growth development. Whatever Corps becomes your Corps, best of success to you !

Follow the advice given here, be it 2019 or 2020. Work ethic goes a LONG way and you will come out of the experience with positive changes you can't even imagine. And if you can't find a DCI corps to march in this summer, consider an upper tier DCA corps. It will give you a great introduction.

Well....relating 40+ years ago to today would only yield you the experience. And here a lot of us 20,30, 40+ years later and we're still fans, probably still some staff or managers and followers of the activity, not to mention I'm sure there are many like me whose best friends today are the ones we marched with all those years ago. We still hang out, remember the old days and watch Finals and other shows together on FloMarching, so with that, I think the question of the experience speaks for itself. As for which corps? At the end of it all, it doesn't matter. You'll be a better adult in the future regardless of your choice.

It could be literally anything. When you think about it, we’re really a pain in the ###. We show up in the middle of the night, ask for all kinds of stuff, take up a ton of space, we're noisy, we're smelly, and want everything cheap or free. A cranky administrator could use any excuse to say no - too much noise, left things dirty, damage to facilities or turf, folks in unauthorized areas, neighbors complaining, etc. Some corps go out of their way to care for facilities. Others are notoriously bad. Once a school has bad experience, it can be nearly impossible to rebuild the relationship. Thanks to all the band directors who advocate for drum corps and wake up in the wee small hours to open the doors for us!

I would give up a lot to be able to march under Dann’s and Chris’s direction just one more time. Your criticism is misguided and aimed at the wrong people.

I find it rather silly to wonder if there will be fewer than 150 young men who want to be part of the Madison Scouts. I know zero about the organization other than the perspective of a drum-corps fan, yet I consider it out of the question that they will field anything less than a full corps. If there is any evidence to the contrary, I would be surprised.
