  1. Not so bold actually. Cavies won in 06- out of the top 6 in 2012. Phantom in 08 and out of the top 6 more regularly in 2014 Cadets in 11 out in 2017 Crown in 2013 out in ??? Did everyone think we would have a period of several years where the Cavies, Cadets, and Phantom were out of the top 6? (Not all at the same time but these are big names that have had down periods recently) The pattern of having a a new champion (maybe not first time but different than BD) has held true since the period of absolute BD dominance began in 07....so why wouldn't old blood falling out of favor while new blood gets hot hold ture too? I am going to be bold and say Boston gets 2nd and SCV doesn't medal too. Every new champion in this era of DCI hasn't medaled the next year AND a completely new corps has gotten 2nd place (well crown did 2nd twice). 09,12 then 14 bluecoats and 17 SCV. (Even Phantom got 2nd in 06). Following this established pattern you find 1. BD 2. Boston 3. Bluecoats 4/5 Cavies and SCV and 6/7 Crown and Cadets or Crown and some other surging corps. Although it been 12 years and its time for a new pattern.

  2. I love Bluecoats too, but they are iffy to me as well. The only caption they have ever won at finals was GE in 2016. I think it's going to take more than one caption win to beat both SCV and BD, because they are the only two corps that could realistically sweep all captions.

  3. And Micheal Schmidt gets passed over yet again. It's a conspiracy I tell you!

  4. Maybe explain to the 'young uns who lurk that the ELP on a drum corps thread isn't the same thing as the EPL used currently in DCI lingo for most corps in THIS century. ELP= Emerson, Lake, (&) Palmer. EPL= Eat, Pack, Load (the buses)

  5. If any corps could make that work, it'd be BD guard.

  6. You also have to consider SCV won every caption except guard last year. When was the last time a corps beat BD at finals and won most of the captions. I know BD went awardless in 2016 and 2018, but I think that's what sets SCV apart and I'm not in the least bit concerned that they won't be championship caliber next year.

  7. Well, I never said they had to stick with standard classical music, either. What I said is there is so much music in the standard classical repertory that hasn't made it's way to the football field.

  8. Your 6-year pattern is convincing! One thing that separates Crown from the others is that their 15-year Finals, year-over-year, placement change is the 3rd least volatile (behind Blue Devils and Blue Knights). Combined with their 3rd highest average placement, it would be surprising for them to place 7th or lower. Phantom and Cadets are among the most volatile. Cavies has been about average.

  11. oh it was toxic in some cases before the switch. Sometimes you just need a new venue. In the long run, i think it was best for those staff to find a new home

  12. Very bold HD since you have CC not making the top 6.

  13. Oh i hear you! Don't get me wrong, i love when BD brings home Ott's/Sanford's etc. But if push came to shove, give me gold medals all day long. I can't tell you who won brass in 1995, but i know who the world champs are that particular year etc.

  17. Yeah, that is what is called the radiation trefoil. You find it in places like hospitals or nuclear power plants where radiation levels may be high. It is not a “nuclear warfare” symbol.
