  1. Word from the muckety-mucks on the 2019 uniform is that we'll instantly know they are the Cadets...that's a good thing.

  2. Oh, bull####. 2016 Academy would like a word. Further, so would 2018 SCV. Go to YouTube and put "black dyke band metropolis 1927" into the search bar. Click on the vid posted by Grammercy Music from 3 years ago....tell me SCV butchered the arrangement, when, in fact, they were VERY faithful to the original. Go ahead....I'll wait. Sing a new ####### tune already.

  3. Hey all, what a long off-season! With spring training approaching, things are starting to cook! Here's some innocent "speculation" i'd like to share with you all. As is becoming tradition, you might hear a little familiar melody from a past life. Need a hint? It's quite an incident... Trumpet's galore, this poetic symphony has quite the intro. A hymn of praise they call it. Do the devils visit Russia? šŸ˜‰

  4. It just seems like common sense too. A solo that is undeliverable to the judges ears as intended by design, is well.... messed up and in performance must logically be considered sub par. Judges since the beginning of time in Drum Corps, have been instructed to judge " what is "... not.... " what was supposed to be. " If judges are suddenly now giving forgiveness for completely botched solos, even for sympathetic reasons beyond the control of the performer soloist, then we really are headed into unfamiliar terrain where build up points can be given equally to well delivered featured solos and completely botched featured solos by Corps . In the case of the Corps that had the completely botched solo at Finals ( due to Mic'ed system being completely wacked ), their Music side GE scores had no effect at all, and their Music Analysis score actually went up at Finals from the Semi's where the featured solo was delivered well by the performer and as designed. Their overall score on Finals Night was actually not adversely impacted at all by the featured solo... actually 2 solos ... being completely and utterly botched on Finals Night in performance however.

  5. if you haven't paid attention to anything in this world, truth very rarely counters perception, right or wrong. While I realize you live in a black and white hard stop world, of course except for when you need to split words and phrases to sub atomic particle levels, the rest of the world doesn't. Ergo, if any schools perceive it's an issue, it's a problem. And schools don't have time or energy top scroll through DCI's website and read a statement that often leaves a lot to....perception.

  6. Everyone knows someone "in the know." It's subjective at best, and conjecture at worst. Hopefully they'll overcome those challenges. I'll just wait until they take the field.

  7. Yeah... I hear that. T&P is, or should be, pretty straightforward, especially during championship week. The old "warning early in the season... penalty at championships" thing. And I agree with those who feel if there's an electronics issue (one that is not caused by the venue itself, beyond a corps' control) that messes up a key part of a show (vocalist's microphone going dead, etc.), it should reflect on the scoresheets. In what caption, by how much, I have no idea... but it should reflect.

  9. I clearly mentioned that the '89 Corps self reported, and that the '75 Corps did not above.. I also stated above that all youth sports, including the NCAA, do not care if a School's team self reported the use of illegal participants in their competitions. They don't care if the player(s) duped the school either. The unknowing basis by the school would be deemed irrelevant, despite perhaps acknowledged sympathy for their plight by most on lookers. Nevertheless, such teams would undeniably have been DQ'ed from participation in any further competitions that season anyway, once the revelation of the illegal participation that season became known. Thus, the self reporting would not have been deemed relevant at all into the DQ'ed sanctions imposed. But... why let any of this get in the way of your good story of your defense of DCI 's actions here ?..., that no other youth sports likely would have permitted. Not a chance in the world a team that utilized illegal players that season would be allowed to further compete in a tournament,.. even absent those overage, illegal players, no matter how the revelation came to light. You skipped over that observation I made above.... to apparently advance your defense of an unprecedented level of the set aside of the DCI rules for participant competition by DCI in '89 for a Corps. This decision was at odds with the complete DQ of an entire Corps in '75 by DCI's HQ for the similar violation for the Corps apparent known use of an overage marcher that season. One Corps self reported the violation ( '89 ). The Other Corps ( '75 ) had the reporting to DCI come from a rival Corps at Prelims that was fighting for a Finals spot, and held back that info from DCI apparently until Prelims. DCI HQ was not made aware of the suspicion of the use of overage marcher(s ) by one of their Corps until it was brought to their attention by a Corps that was unclear if they had a Finals spot totally locked down or not coming into DCI Championships in Philly in '75. So this additional layer of info adds perhaps a counterpoint to your defense here of DCI HQ's decision that the later '89 Corps they set aside the rules for were " duped by 2 of their marchers with forged documents", ( apparently true ) and thus the reason for the set aside of the rules and established penalties by DCI HQ for utilizing illegal participants in DCI's competitions all season long by any of its membership Corps.

  11. Regarding Cadets in 2019, I think the way that Cadets handled 2018 speaks volumes, however I have spoken to people more in the know than I am and Cadets still has a great deal to do, because as we know the allegations facing the former director are not the only challenges the corps is facing. That being said, it does seem as if there are capable people handling these things, and if in the midst of a huge storm last year the corps could place 7th, competitive success this year is not a bold prediction. I would think much depends on the following: Recruitment: Since every corps claims each year they have recruited the most talent in their history, this always is a remains to be seen category, but it's safe to assume Cadets still attracts top talent. Returning vets: I think when you have placed near the top, the temptation to move to a medaling corps is greater. This could be a challenge for Cavies, Cadets, BAC, and Crown. For me, one of the things I have associated with Cadets whether it was a strong year placement wise or not, whether it was a show I enjoyed (most years) or not (only a few), is a strong sense of confidence. Moving forward, this will be important. Cadets have been about tradition, and they are also about innovation, I hope we see both. Just as I would love to see their northeast neighbors wear red and black, maroon and gold would be nice. Since my predictions preseason are always wrong, I'll keep those thoughts to myself, but I think it should be a good year.

  20. stories have been out there for years, some documented on various drum corps discussion groups. Remember, i brought up Scott Atchinson on here, and got crapped on by Hopkins and a lot of other people. Joel Moody was brought up on here years ago, and nothing happened. The track record of burying their head in the sand is documented because "we just run the shows"

  22. Here we go with the trial bs again. Crappy track record.... Cadets, Crossmen, Pioneer (how long was #### reported until something was done), Pacfic northwest corps where whole staff quit. All the YEARS (decades) that DCI had absolutely NO policy in place to to protect members, not even a freaking process for people to even report anything. So who knows what went on and kids had no where to turn. Iā€™m talking all things that impacted member safety. And asking for hard numbers BITD is garbage for any group due to non reporting or hiding. And my final word as tired of repeating myself for the third day. I donā€™t give a #### if DCI is better or worse than anyone else. They delayed doing anything for way too long and now are paying the price. Imo only way out is continue to do what needs to be done so others can see it

  26. Until you get off the ā€œperceived as guiltyā€ kick you are not going to get it. The school boards are not judging individual corps guilt or innocence. The boards are determining if it is worth the risk to allow them to use the facilities. And it is not the responsibility of the board to go digging into details about the individual corps. Quite frankly the boards have more important things to do with their time. So the board finds out there is a problem within DCI. Not the boards job to check or decide how the individual corps fits into that. So with the limited time the board has they see a problem within DCI and a corps connected to a group under a cloud. Board did not decide Corps is guilty, just not worth the risk given the DCI cloud

  27. I don't don't know about this. There is the requirement, imo, of the PRESUMPTION of innocence, especially in the court of law of the accused that has been arrested and charged with a Crime by legal prosecutors. But there is no requirement by the public for a "DECLARATION of innocence" after the accused has been arrested, charged, detained, and dates set for Trial., People are free to declare publicly what they think of the arrest and charge either way. Its a free country. As such, people are free to state publicly what they think about it, imo...People declared ( both ways ) here on DCP what they thought of the woman's public declaration of sexual assault by GH. GH, and his attorney's have likewise been given the opportunity to declare the charges true or false too with the public. And they opted to declare their innocence... and a few posters on on here stated that they believe him. Neither Party should be told they have no freedom to declare what they want to believe before the case is tried and/ or settled.. Nor should there be restrictions on the public to declare their thoughts on it either. But the presumption of innocence until proven guilty in a Court of Law still remains absolute in the US Jurisprudence System. This fundamental principal is not threatened by the public's comments. Juries are properly instructed pre trial. on the presumption of innocence principal too. Sometimes, Jurors will even declare post trial they thought the accused was guilty of the charges, but they returned a not guilty verdict because the prosecutors did not establish a breech of the presumption of innocence legal requirement that the Juror( s) were obligated to retain throughout the legal proceedings.. Perhaps you meant to use the phrase of a " presumption of innocence should always prevail " until proven or an admittance of guilt has taken place. . If so, I would agree with you if this is what you meant to say instead here.

  29. Of course I wasn't doing any such thing, Stu. I was just making a joke, period. A bad one, I'm sure. LOL. Just being silly. The people who know me best know I've been silly for just about my entire life. But this is an example of the "Stu World" we all live in here. "Mountain-Out-of-Molehill Land." Love ya, Stu.... agree with you on several issues, love your sense of humor on a lot of things... but is there any chance you can perhaps go a few weeks or so without parsing every single word every one of us ever says on these forums, or lying in wait for a "gotcha" moment? Sheesh.

  34. As the Vikings began invasions of Ireland from 795 Anno Domini to 1120 A.D., which is several hundred years after Ireland had already embraced Trinitarian Christianity, perhaps there is a commingling of cultural symbols although the meanings of the symbols have become divergent over the ages. Crossmen designers will need be wary to express one one thing without being seen to representing the other. You know, that Cultural Sensitivity issue that is DCI au courant.
