  1. The latter. I mean whatever you want to do, you can't ruin my positivity about this show so I suggest you stop trying.

  2. Yup! given the snip the Cadets chose to release I can understand the concern some have - however I’ve heard most of the rest of the program and there isn’t any other vocal contribution and there isn’t any lecturing mostly it’s just aggressive music played by very solid brass and percussion sections The music is well arranged and engaging - parts are entirely original, parts you will recognize from Regiment 1993 in DCI and the end of Avons BOA program in 2017 it should be quite fun to listen to!

  3. Progress for whom or what? This seems like a oversimplification to me....AND I'm not picking sides here either.

  4. I’m not mentioning this to be political at all, just to present a reasonable observation: any politics presented through a drum corps medium are most likely going to skew, at the bare minimum, slightly left. This is a youth activity full of young hopeful idealists, not to mention it’s been a haven for LGBT youth for decades. Beyond the kids, the designers are people immersed in the arts for a living. I’m not saying everyone who marches skews left, just that the youth-driven, artistic soul of the activity could reasonably be called left-leaning. That’s not to say that drum corps is the proper medium to present a political opinion; however, the country is full of division and anger on every side at the moment, and it would be naive to expect the art you are viewing to not reflect that.

  7. No, their director alienated many fans with a veriety of actions. There's way to design hot topic issues without doing what was designed for the Cadets in the past. And let's be 10000% brutally honest.....most hatred of the Cadets as so many label it wasn't the corps...it was him. He just made it so everyone thought they were one and the same.

  8. I do not want the Cadets to be boring! The Cadets can be exciting without being social justice warriors. You made some good points waliman4444.

  9. He was right. Look at us old farts still on here talking about drum corps years after age out (for me almost 30.) I'll wear my corps jacket until I'm too fat to fit into it. It's an amazing activity. Investment (in this case,) was there the moment the OP's son auditioned for his first season and I'm betting both the OP and his son will be lifelong fans.

  14. Just a reminder to make sure the topic does not slide down the political sliding board to being closed or edited. So far it seems ok (except for at least one deleted post the other day), but just re-read whatever you want to post to make sure it stays drum corps-related.

  15. If so, its 2019, so there is no way this scene would ever be depicted in the BD show 🐎🎥😄

  16. Its rarely politics that effects Corps/ marchers. By far, and its not even close, imo, its... economics. Economics determines who marches and who doesn't. Economics even determines how Corps continue to function and exist, and what Corps falter, and others, cease to exist.

  17. I don’t want to speak for dans, but I don’t think the complaint is that the world is changing. That’s silly and you know it.

  18. Yikes. The reality is, art and music have always touched on controversial topics. Kudos to the Cadets for doing a show with purpose that makes a statement. The world is changing whether you want it to or not. Things that were once controversial become normal over time. That’s progress. You can stay mad and yell at the clouds; or you can accept the change that young generations are pushing for. Time is on their side. I’m sure this is a show many current members are excited to march this year.

  21. depending on the prism you look through, just about anything can be politicized..just be entertaining and watch how the audience, regardless of political affiliation, either loves the show or pans it..hopefully they love the direction cadets are moving..and I think it was G. Dixon who said something about not performing a "boring" program...I concur..as long as the show is stimulating, a bit avant-garde and performed well, i"ll be okay, regardless of placement..peace

  22. The #metoo movement is silly and hypocritical. And I go to a drum corps show to relax and get away from leftist politicals...I don't need to have progressive politics shoved down my throat. And lets be real Jeff, the Cadets have alienated many fans with leftist politics and social issues. Is that what the 2019 Cadets really want to do...is it really in their best interest? Based on past experience, Cadets fans have every right to be skeptical until they see where the new staff is going to go with this theme. The potential is there for something amazing with this theme. Time will tell regarding how political they go with it.

  28. I'm a little surprised to hear Elvord speak so explicitly about a return to what Madison is all about. I know a lot of alumni and fans want that. But in context, it's sort of also saying: you know, not that stuff we've done the past couple of years. The plans are plenty okay with me. I'm just surprised to hear so open a dig at those past decisions.

  30. I agree. Some corps use so much of it, I wonder why they even march contras anymore, well, they don't I wonder why some even march tubas.
