  1. I’m leaving right now. But not before @BRASSO and myself....

  2. What a wildly eclectic set of source material, some really cool stuff in there and some stuff I’ve never heard which is always fun. Paired with a very accessible theme it should be cool. Have loved the last two shows so I’m sure this will be great too.

  3. By focusing on one piece of the story, it’s more clear cut. If it was titled David, it could be far less focused. The whole story of David, from the shepherd in the field, to his bravery, loyalty, infidelity, his ability to lead his country but inability to lead his family, to becoming a wise and faithful man in later years is pretty complex. Focusing on the David v. Goliath makes more sense.

  5. The written description focus in the press release seems to me to be more on David ...in his underdog role. Its not so much about " Goliath " per se, but more on the virtues of courage, wisdom, and perseverance, and the like displayed by the young David when facing the taller, stronger, seemingly invincible Goliath. Thats my take anyway. I have not heard Tim's take on his read of the press release. X

  6. Over on the PM page, a few posters are chuckling right now, as 12 days ago ( 5/5 ) I guessed on there that Boston Crusaders theme would be " David & Goliath "..... lol!

  11. I think your interpretation is on target and fits the corps well, especially when you look at the history of the corps. How many people, say 25-30 years ago thought BAC would last, and if they did somehow survive, would be as successful as they are today?

  12. Maybe it should have been named David, but this design team seems to like three syllable show titles.

  13. Sorry Jeff, no question you are a "giant" as far as your drum corps knowledge is concerned, but he's Goliath!

  16. No other corps is so in tune with their identity and strengths more than the Blue Devils. They are once again the corps to beat.

  17. Thanks B. The press release did not come through when I hit the link. Probably my weak strength. A Davidic approach definitely seems more drum corps appropriate.

  22. not rocket science. i gave my credit card number to the corps for the first time in years, and i didn't for all of those years for one reason.

  24. I’m nearing completion of my PhD and I can’t make sense of some of the word salad in that show description. The general idea of playing on theater, the folklore and culture of performers, with a supernatural element, seems cool if I am understanding it right. But it’s a BD show so it will probaby be fire, and performed at a higher level than all or nearly all other corps. Which Khachaturyan piece?

  30. Burnt-Up was only two, Washed-Up is written as 3 syllables but said as 2. If they stay literal to the Biblical story, does the short hand for 2019 show become Stoned? (Good luck to all.)

  33. They always, ALWAYS come up with the most intriguing concepts. What a cool and imaginative idea! There is so much they can do with that. I was only slightly familiar with the term "ghost light," and it was interesting to research and see all the superstitions, etc. associated with it.

  38. Yep. The outward vs inward looking is spot on. But it goes back to the 80s. Stewart constantly said things like "DCI is a cancer and we are the only healthy cell in the body" And the "Judges are out to get us"...or "Chops never forgets" (Referring to the late Gary Czapinski and how he supposedly had an axe to grind against Madison for being fired)....constantly blaming everything on the outside and not looking in the mirror.....or constantly looking back to the glory days and revive them instead of looking forward. But with all that said, I'm not writing them off for this season since we haven't seen or heard anything yet.

  39. I just watched 1982, 1999, 2005, and 2015. I am a corps history buff, love old and new. I am just sick about what has happened to the corps. I usually would stay as far on the optimism side of things as possible, but just can't in regards to the past several seasons and what has happened this off season. While I wish all the best to the members and hope they have the best summer in all regards possible, it saddens me that such cannot be the case competitively. Next year (2020), or in two years can the corps survive yet a third overhaul, rebirth, survival after the storm which will require ignoring many alumni and their wants? Such gets harder and harder in drum corps as time passes- yes, Spirit, Troopers, Boston, Blue Stars, not to mention all those we have lost that did not survive a first, second, much less third revival. Three things have ended all drum corps: money, administration, and alumni. Though sorry to offend, it must be said that the alumni will have the most blame to carry on this one. There are many reasons alumni become so toxic. I think Madison the most toxic of all time and largely because once they found themselves slipping in rankings in the late 90s and early 2000s, they looked outwardly and not inwardly for blame and excuses. That decade of members were too often told the system was failing them and many of them bought it and still do.

  40. Well in terms of the show........lol I'm excited, seems like a good mix of old and new, I think the secret to their success is finding a good balance between the two. I think doing retreads strayed too far into the old and last year maybe too far into the new (though there were some moments in there I liked, Snarky Puppy worked well for them). We shall see but seems like a good fit in terms of programming.

  43. It was a good night at Twin Valley High School!!! Buccaneers are great, again. Still the corps to beat in DCA, without question. IMO a very cool show. Lots of familiar music. We'll see how the show theme develops around the music. Should be interesting!!!
