  1. Cavies..... I was tearing up at the end. Everything about that show was perfectly designed. That was easily THE best hornline that I have EVER heard from this corps. I am not even sure where to start.... I was up on my feet during a freaking ballad! like, WHAT THE HECK! I need to see it again posted from the DrumScorps app

  5. Wow, Crown was on their game tonight. The changes musically are making a HUGE difference. The marching issues are cleaning quite nicely, though still there. The horn line is really starting to get that classic Crown sound, and they got one of the biggest reactions from the audience tonight. They still have quite a bit to clean. After seeing this show in person, I still think there is a chance that they could win it all.

I love how The Cavaliers and DCI for that matter, accept people for who they are and I love the organization just for that reason. SO close to the start of the show! posted from the DrumScorps app

  24. I love how this thread is just full of love and respect. Reminds me of the old BD forums. Comparing this thread to some of the other corps threads well..... Whether BD wins or comes up short, it’s all good. Another great show for the record books.

  28. Bloo - wow wow wow. I love the Beatles and this was sooo good. Crowd around me was grooving along to come together. Blackbird is so clear and clean. SCV - the sound through the speakers the 1at third of the show sucked. The last 2/3rds is on par with last year. To me, the tarps did not add anything. BD - yeah, it follows the same formula, but it is a #### good formula. First time seeing them this season and ready to see it again on flo tomorrow. To me, they did win the thunderous goo award for the night The screamer fits in their show better than SCV Me, I am glad I am not a judge This activity is so good right now and something to love with every corps. posted from the DrumScorps app

  29. Sorry, I love the competition. Tomorrow I have a choice: the comfort of my sitting room watching San Antonio or going to Manchester, NH where it is predicted to be hotter than Texas. I’ll be choosing Manchester. I’ll be thrilled to see Les Stentors return to the field. Spartans/Legends will be a great matchup, seeing 7th Regiment’s improvements will impress me, and I look forward to seeing Southwind and Heatwave. I enjoy the shows, but competition is critical too.

  33. I really enjoyed The Cadets guard and low brass. Very well disciplined musicians. but after the first view..... I think I need to see it again. A few musical lines were reused from The Cavaliers 2009 show (yep, I caught that). But they are perfoming the heck out of it.... well done Cadets. posted from the DrumScorps app

  41. Well I certainly liked SCV’s show more in person. I think mainly just because of the difference in power and volume compared to the other corps (even Crown). It really is a huge difference. Still, I think the design is messy. I thought it was messy before, but now it’s even messier with the giant crumbled tarps taking up half the field. They really just make the everything look less “precise,” if that makes sense. Wrinkles everywhere and they’re highly reflective. Thats a design swing and a miss, imo. Lesson learned.

  44. If you don't find the fight for the 12th spot to be of competitive interest...you're probably just not a fan of drum corps. I'm even intrigued and anticipating the fight for who gets to be seen on the big screen on Friday night of championships.

  49. I'm gonna quibble with your proposition! IMHO it should "marching drill" vs "flutter stepping/running". Choreography (ie dance) has been part of "marching drill" for quite some time. But to answer your original question: Real choreography (taught by a proper choreographer) is harder to perform than marching. Technically it's harder to clean as well BUT it's often not judged to the same standards as marching (at least in the hornline). Now to answer what SHOULD have been the original question: Drill is far harder to perform well than running about because the exposure to error FAR FAR greater. When a blob flutters from one prop to the next, it's nearly impossible to sample technique, timing, interval maintenance, etc... In fact mostly you're limited to sampling just a few performers on technique and watching for awkward pathways. And if the technique for the movement is "running" there's literally nothing to judge. Remember there's no standard for technique -- only a requirement that the technique be uniform! From an ensemble viewpoint, again most of the criteria judges are trained to use just isn't relevant. So they're left with just a few items. AGAIN -- exposure to ERROR is RADICALLY reduced. While this may be smart programming, I think it actually eliminates one of the key strengths of activity: organized, precise motion with fantastic brass music. I can't type anymore. Just thinking about this gives me a migraine. If judges were actually measuring the demand and level of simultaneous responsibilities, this nonsensical blob-fluttering would be credited FAR LESS than demanding drill. Instead we have corps trying (mostly badly) to be stage performers. Regardless of the number of props, it's a field not a stage. There's no proper lighting, no proper way to change sets, no "off-stage", no curtain, and no sound system that's even close to adequate (as compared to the broadway stage). It's really kind of pathetic. Blast worked because it was indoors and had all those things. Drum corps will never have them. The End. </soapbox>
