  1. I think DCI should put a one year moratorium on hell.

  5. They were fantastic. In a crowd in Allentown, with a decades long obvious “Anyone but BD” history, they got thunderous applause. All around me were people saying OMG and WOW! The response to SCV right afterward could best be described as polite. Even BC response was tepid for the first half. It wasn’t until Come Together that BC took the shine away from the Devils performance. And, while i cannot speculate on what i did NOT fully hear, something is going to change for Pre-lims that we were not going to see before then!

  6. Crown is “very professional” - wife Other corps hornlines sound like drum corps hornlines; Crown sounds like a brass ensemble

  8. No matter how big of a homer you might be for corpsxyz.... you have to admit that the Cavies have one of the most well rounded and enjoyable shows of the season!

  9. Maybe The Cadets’ design team will “do better” next year.

  10. Bias is and has always been part of the adjudication process. It’s human to have a preference of taste likes and dislikes. For anyone to believe something else is fooling themselves. It’s the game that was chosen by all the DCI member directors to be played and they all understand the risks.

  11. Sitting in my hotel, just returned from Allentown. My thoughts: Music City’s show is enjoyable, and many clever small details have been added, but it needs more impact, especially in the opener. I thought that “Imagine” was their strongest moment. Genesis has a good show this year and I thought it shows maturity. I enjoyed really enjoyed Madison tonight. It is not Madison of yesteryear, but it has some enjoyable moments. It’s not a top 12 show and I thought the score was appropriate, but it was an audience favorite, at least in my section. I appreciate Troopers are trying something new. The musical portion was good, but visually the uniforms are bland and the color guard did little to add to the show through much of the performance. Academy performed after the extended intermission due to the delay. They seemed to have amplification issues. I thought “Bridge Over Troubled Waters” was well done, and thought the “London Bridge/Bridge Over a troubled Waters” was clever. It is not as powerful or creative as some of their more recent shows, but it was a good performance. Blue Knights had a very strong performance. The show theme was a bit heavy, but they know how to use their power as well as nuances well. I found Blue Stars show congested. It had moments, but I found it hard to follow. I’m thinking they could be vulnerable, perhaps 10th or 11th this year. Blue Devils were amazing. There are so many parts of the show that catch you by surprise. The guard is very strong and seemed on target tonight. SCV’s show is fast paced, and they do what they do well, I’m not sure I know what it all means. I don’t see them placing below third, but I don’t see them catching BD or Bloo either. It was Bloo’s night, no question. It started s but slow but quickly caught fire. The “Hey Jude” ending adds so much.

  13. There is so much to like from all the corps this season. Scores will not do this season justice. Don’t believe there will be any significant placement changes, perhaps a switch between Cavaliers and Crown due to Cavaliers visual, GE and guard. But I wouldn’t bet on it. Still believe we will see a tie between Devils and Bluecoats. Which is fine with me.

  15. That should be your Ott winner. No outrageous flashiness, trying to hit triple G above high C with the most pinched sound imaginable, no overdone buzzy fff mello sustains ... just beautifully executed, intoned, pitch-centered ensemble playing with plenty of demand.

  16. Guys, why are yall going after George? The way I see it, he is passionate about his corps like how I am passionate about The Cavaliers. 🙂 come on guys, let's enjoy the thread and everyone's view point. Regardless of how you feel about their opinion. 🙂 back to the show.... I am excited!!! The Cavaliers could do something amazing tonight!

  23. The shaft? The score they got is the score they got. Hopefully next year Gaines will put out a better visual production that doesn't consist of bland grey uniforms and slow movements from one prop to another.

  25. Best run of the season for Crown. So proud of these kids for not giving up this season. That brass line is going to be difficult to beat. Visually the show locked in much better tonight that it has all season.

  27. I’ve lost so much respect for the design team of the Cadets. I thought they made great strides last season, then this year pushing their political agenda, I don’t think the audience really enjoyed being preached to. The show feels forced, and completely self serving. They’ve lost me as a fan.

  29. So much to love so much to hate in the show. Phantoms designers need to get their act together sooner next time around. I want these guys to do a lot better.

  31. Interested in if: Seattle Cascades maintain >70. Jersey Surf stays close to Music City. Colts vs. Pacific Crest, and how they score in relation to The Academy last night. How close Spirit of Atlanta is to Phantom Regiment. Where Crossmen fit in between Mandarins and Phantom Regiment. Where Mandarins fit in between Crossmen (if they stay ahead) and Cadets, and how close both of them are to where Blue Stars and Blue Knights scored last night. And of course, The Cavaliers, Carolina Crown, and Boston Crusaders going back to back to back. Also how they fit in with SCVs 93.5something last night. I usually don't compare across shows, but same panel, same venue, I make an exception. Should be fun night of shows!

  33. Ali vs. Frazier; Federer vs. Nadal; Watson vs. Nicklaus; Celtics vs. Lakers, Alydar vs. Affirmed. It's incredible when there is a pair at the top of the sport and they're evenly matched, pushing each other, forcing each other to reach deep inside. Devils-Bluecoats this year is in this rareified air. Buckle up, baby!

  34. Perfect description of the crowd response last night. Warmed my BD-honk heart to witness the always BD-skeptical northeast audience(if not hostile, in some years) admit and demonstrate how much they were digging the Devils. I would add that the response to much of SCV was perplexed but kind (Though I loved them, and really thought they're about to pass Bloo this week). Nothing against Bloo. They're a total gas. Performance levels being equal, though, I think BD's stronger and more complex show, and any icing on it to come, should own next Saturday night.

  40. Such great performers with Crown! The ballad is musically riveting, but a visual snooze fest. Some great drill, some slow sections for design. I have mixed feelings about this show. Members deserve a tad better design because they can handle whatever is thrown at them. These guys and gals should be fighting for gold, not 3rd, 4th, or 5th.

  41. Then you don't write "the hornline" - you write the 'brass arrangement" or the "brass design". The "hornline" ARE the kids.

  46. It's been a different summer for Regiment. So many wrote them off. I suspect so many wanted them out of top 12. The talent they attracted has spoken and they have other plans. They truly have the fight within themselves. No matter how much this activity changes, something within this corps is right. Look at how motivated those kids are. Going forward the organization needs to tap into this motivation further. It will be what propels them to greater success. You can have all the wonderful designers, instructors and techs you want. But it's when the kids have this kind of motivation, incredible things happen. Regiment has 9 lives. The soul of this corps is very strong.

  48. Let’s face it. Every homer hears what they want to hear. In the midst of a huge brass tear you have BD fans going bonkers over their brass performance. People are fans, and we can just hope that the judges judge and leave the fandom to the fanatics.
