  1. Yeah, I have a better chance of winning the lottery than championships being rained out in Pasadena. August in southern California is drrrrrrrrrrrrrry.

  2. I don’t keep up with the band world but that is horrible. Footwear should be required

  3. Obviously from your thread title this is inspired by the high school band whose guard members' bare feet were so badly burned on the turf yesterday in a Bands of America prelims competition in Texas that a doctor told them they couldn't perform in the finals that evening (for which they had qualified). As it happens, over in DCA, the Caballeros' guard was barefoot for daytime prelims at championships in 2014 in New York and some membes feet were burned, but apparently not as badly. Curious why you asked for this topic, which seems like a legitimate one for discussion here, to be deleted.

  4. When I saw foot burns I was thinking rough turf and not the temperature. 1978 was in SuperDome and just brushing your arm against 70s AstroTurf was like rubbing sandpaper.

  5. The quality of the BOA streams yesterday were much better in quality than the previous two weekends.

  6. I know it’s cool to hate on Flo, and I’m NOT saying they’re perfect, but it’s probably the best/most affordable option we’re gonna have for watching shows. The Fan Network wasn’t sustainable and if memory serves correctly, the quality wasn’t really all that great there either. Again, I’ll be the first to admit that Flo has #### the bed on a few occasions BUT some of you take the b*tching a little too far. Let’s just be happy we don’t have to settle for watching a vertical Periscope video of a show with Nancy screaming “wooooooooo” every time her child does something cool.

  7. Crunchy or Smooth? Would he consider Nutella? Does the jam have to be Georgia Peach? Also research the ad agencies for the podium prince's favorite brand. Sounds like a possible commercial narrative that may benefit both brand and corps. I know NewBalance at HQ outside of Boston and with their factory in Maine have been discussing it according to a regional admin I know. Discussing/Considering may be awhile yet.

  8. Then maybe corps should reduce membership?

  9. Just for reference . . . The volunteer local organizing team for DCI in Allentown is 80 members strong. Many having worked 30-40 years in their role. Paying “big venue” union wages for that would be quite a bill.

  10. Sponsorship from Peanut Butter Companies. Sponsorship from Jelly Companies. Athletic Shoe Deals. Sports Drink Sponsorships. Performance Wear Sponsorships. I went through the formal process with JIF trying to get a sponsorship for my Son's corps after he showed me a log that he ate over 950 Peanut Butter sandwiches on tour. I contacted the powers that be and tracked down the total amount of Peanut Butter that the Corps bought and consumed from Spring Training til Finals. I thought it was a pretty impressive case for sponsorship. And I got shot down. But that doesn't mean that DCI couldn't do that in aggregate.

  12. Kathy Black. Attorney. Old connections to drum corps. Rabid fan. Long reputation of being able to hold many cat leashes in her hands at one time - perfect for DCI's structure. I haven't heard any bad stuff. Her holding that position is surely evidence that the voting membership are willing to trust someone who they can count on to keep their interests first in her guidance of the board's direction in view of the realities of today's governance requirements. Governance excellence? Yah, maybe.

  14. Also...having my DCU and DCI fandoms collide on DCP is getting confusing.

  15. Debbie "Blondie" Harry was born and raised in Hawthorne. She used to listen to the Cabs while growing up. Excerpt from the article: "The future rockstar’s first home was on Cedar Avenue by Goffle Brook Park. She would play in her very own “enchanted” forest (inhabited by migrants) and leave the window open so she could hear the drum and bugle of the Hawthorne Caballeros. Harry’s baseball fan mother would kick her out of the house during games. Her father worked for a silk label manufacturer that had a mill in Paterson." Debbie Harry interview
