  1. I remember DCI South Prelims at Legion Field in Birmingham in the '80s. I could feel the heat through the soles of my shoes. That was probably different turf than anyone uses these days.

  2. More Info on the Incident: Event: 2019 BOA DFW Regional … Pennington Field, Bedford, TX Date: Sat. Oct. 5th Time: circa 1:30 PM Incident Details as per https://www.facebook.com/OwassoHSB https://marching.musicforall.org/result/dallas2019/ “How hot is it there?” “… miserably hot at the field. It was in the 90’s but on the field it was about 100 and the turf temp was unbearable. … “ “ … It was 95 degrees at 1:30 pm when the band took the field. They estimate the turf was 140 degrees and our Guard members performed barefooted. They did an incredible job, while pushing through an awful situation. … “ Sounds like it wasn’t just one Guard member, but many, if not all … “ … I want to say thank you … to all who took care of our girls. This mom truly appreciates the help, care, love and attention you gave to our guard. I know these girls were in pain and I know they appreciate each and everyone who helped and cared for them. … To the young man who stayed with them in the medic tent and making sure they was ok....thank you. To the Dr who drove to give our girls special attention...thank you. To the directors and parents that was there and helped in every way possible and made sure our girls were well cared for, thank you. To all the band students that also checked on the girls through out the rest of the day and evening....thank you!!! “ … Hope all of the injured Guard members have recovered & “Best of Luck” to the Pride of Owasso (OK) Marching Band in future Competitions.

  3. Stop:: Listening at all to anyone that tells corps to "go back to...." Continue: Moving the activity forward. Start: Leaving the dino's behind to sulk...

  4. And years later... lot of people who like the current changes will gripe about the changes to come. If they are still around.... same as it every was.... same as it ever was...

  5. You should go back to 1990 via old vhs tapes because you do not want to see 2020 drum corps and that’s ok, but it’s not going to change for you.

  6. Yep. It was over 100 degrees down on the old turf at Franklin Field in 76. I could feel the heat coming through my shoes.

  8. they'd have to pay royalties rights to The Crossmen; it's in San Antonio. Then there's that New guy and his new corps guarding it not far from Austin. BAC would end up being named: Brownsville-Amarillo Crusaders (BAC.) Hey brown and yellow. That could be their new color scheme since they and SCV have abandoned red.

  9. Considering that here, in the South, we seem to take full blown arenas and fill them with mud (pronounced "muuuuuuuuddddddddd" followed by an echo-y voice saying "Thunder...Thunder...THUNDERRRRRR")......we here could probably figure out the squirrel logistics.

  10. DCA has always been that way. Not an excuse as much an observation. Hence RCA, ICA to get the start-ups places to compete BITD. I wonder how many corps didn't survive BITD that might have been able to make it work if there would have been more support that had some numbers and were decent enough to make a respectable showing.

  12. This has been a big challenge for Broadway musicals for years. So many theaters in such a small area all trying to use the same narrow band of frequencies.

  13. I think so too, And even after Allentwon when they started to water down parts the results where still the same.. Clean or not the book had doomed them. So hard to shake placements up in the individual captions once you have a couple of Regionals under your belt..

  14. That is my hope and my excitement for this addition, They can affect Boston in the right ways to make them on par with the other corps in the Top 5. Elevate the product from a very good Band Show, to a state-of-the-art Drum Corps Production.

  15. Boston has done the in-your-face stuff very well, but to the exclusion of other types of musical effects. If these new staff bring variety to the sound, and can widen the scope of musical effects, it will be a very good thing for the corps.

  16. Pretty awesome video. I’ve never seen that band before, but I actually got chills seeing the last two minutes of this video. And you are 100% correct - these things can be taught. That’s my hope and EXPECTATION of this Cadets new/old staff. Teach the members what it means to be Cadets, in every facet. When sitting in the audience at J. Birney Crum, I want to FEEL that sense of AWE when they enter the field. Yes!!!!

  20. I agree with your percussion observation..sometimes it felt like they were doing their "own thing"..and often had nothing to do with musicality..LOVED BK's opener for that very reason..peace

  22. Stop - squatting every time the corps hits a sustained note. It gets old quickly. Change - please, for the love all things drum corps, choose costumes that we can see. For example, compare SCV and Bluecoats this year. I saw both live in Atlanta, and on the big screen at Quarters, and I swear I could not see what SCV was doing. They sure got a high visual score, but I’ll have to take the judges word. It just looked muddy to me, and formless. I got a little sad when the highlight from the first year in Indy looked so stunning in the classic red coats. But the costuming for Bluecoats was stunning. I LOVED the color tones, the slight variations of blue contrasted with the bright guard. Yes, I’m old, and I miss the classic uniforms (especially Cadets and SCV). But I appreciate the new when it’s done well.

  23. STOP - The over use of A&E and full brass mics START - safety standards for props - I don't know to what extent this already exists, but honestly, my fear for the members' safety on some of these stages/props takes me out of the performance. The Cadets cross through drill at the apex of the four stairwells is an example. CHANGE - Open Class Finals to Wednesday. Now that they moved it closer to Indy, I would happily fly out a day early and drive up to watch open class finals.

  24. STOP - Turing musicians and guard members into stage hands.. START - Drill. Drill that's not limited to only one side of the field. CHANGE - Change costumes less.

  25. Someone please correct me, but wasn't Madison's entry on the field -- while magnificent and a crowd-pleaser -- not judged as the performance hadn't officially started? Loved it by the way and well as BD's last season. (Hi Fred! We missed seeing you this year!)

  26. Mandatory for each corps to march at least 30 contras

  27. Electronic issues should be penalized. If the brass ensemble has huge phasing issues or muddy releases, they get penalized. Electronics should be no different.

  29. Does anyone know if "david" was an ageout? That kid is one of the most solid Guard performers I've ever seen. From the Shows I've seen on YT or FLO I did not see him make one mistake on Rifle all year.. If he chooses to be on the cast for Inspire's debut year in WGI they might medal right away, first year out..

  31. Stop: Spatzzz‘s attack on people who came before him/her. Get a clue, we’ve been doing drum corps a lot longer than you. Continue: Moving the activity forward by teaching music instead of prop management/staging. Start: Respecting people who are older than you. ( That’s for you Spatzzz) Really. Dino’s don’t sulk, they rawr.

  32. STOP - ALL electronics, including miking individuals STOP - Running and scatter drill STOP - tarps and excessive props Start doing more marching and lowering score for bad marching Start figuring out a way to award MMs for good performance of bad show design (i.e. Phantom Regiment) Start banning WGI judges from juding DCI Change show designs to involve more difficult drill and no more body movement AND Form a separate division for Stage Performances AND anonthher thing, no prerecorded anything..
