  1. Referring to a black man as "his boy"? Since you've been using a dictionary to use words you don't understand, let me help you out - that's racist

  4. Irony is reading posts saying the DCA corps are focused on what’s good for them and not looking at the big picture. If 55 is really something the powers that be in DCI are looking at then same could be said....

  5. Is it just me, or are there several recent DCA threads that could be combined into one? Maybe "DCA Gripe-O-Rama" or something like that.

  6. Plan to check DCI side 2020 to see if can hold my interest again. Problem is band shows don’t thrill me like sound of just horns and percussion (personal taste folks).

  7. Congrats Vandegrift. Great music, great drill, and basically some flats across the back for props. There's hope for the marching arts yet! And wow -- look at Texas go!

  8. The day the Scouts announced they were going coed, I said its nothing but a diversion and self preservation for CK. After all, in this era of wokeness, who would criticize or fire someone who broke down the barriers of discrimination and seclusion of a misogynistic all Male organization? Give me a freaking break. The BOD Is gutless. Apathy and incompetence brings down organizations and we have seen the results of both the last 10 years under CK's failed regime. How in the world does this guy survive? Do they even do performance appraisals?

  9. I'l be honest....i loved the tradition, but i understand their desire to make the change. However, I have said all along, would this be happening if they were in the top 6?

  11. Texas has been going like that for about 3 decades now. It's just not easy or financially feasible to take the trip up to Indianapolis every year. DCI/BOA should probably relocate to San Antonio at this point. Texas is where the talent is.

  12. Ciao everyone. In 2002, I self-published a book about the San Francisco Renegades, and the crazy experiences we had long the way to becoming the first DCA Finalist from California. As the years went by, and I started to write other things, I always wanted to write a second edition of this book, but never got around to it. Until now. Instead of an e-book for the 2nd edition, I decided to publish it via a online blog. Instead of writing and publishing the entire thing at once, I add a chapter every day, or every other day, and the response has been amazing. In the last week, more people have read the first few chapters of the new "Renegade Journal" than ever bought the first edition book. There is nothing to buy on this page, I am simply writing it for myself, and for posterity, and out of passion for an amazing set of memories and experiences. So, if you are interested -- please check out and hopefully enjoy - https://therenegadejournal.home.blog 7

  13. We usually are able to pre-order in early November and can expect CDs shortly thereafter. I understand that the video products may take a while, but any idea why we've heard nothing on the audio release date?

  14. Hopefully this is not a rehash of an old thread, but what do you look forward to most during the Drum Corps season, besides the obvious of the actual groups shows and performances? For me, it is the once a year friendships that I have developed with fellow fans over the years. There is a couple dudes who my buddy and I met several years ago during finals week. We sat in front of them, and all of us kept hearing the others making comments similar to the other pair. We struck up a conversation during the marathon prelims day, and every year we get back together, grab a meal or two together during the week, and pick up as if no time has passed. It is an odd friendship, in the fact that we do not talk much, sometimes at all, until Finals week the next year. Even in years when our seats are not next to each other, we seek each other out, and pick back up. These are the types of things that make this activity more than just the performances on the field.

  15. Here's update for everyone. As of yesterday, 11/17/2019, the outgoing board of directors appointed a new board of directors from the transitional team made up of Bush Alumni. All of the equipment, uniforms, costumes and trailers the corps ended the 2019 season with on Labor Day is still with the corps. Outstanding loans have been paid (no where near the amount mentioned in this thread) and the corps is in the best shape financially it has ever been in after a change of board members/administration. The corps was into the merger for six weeks before things got nasty on the internet and Imperial Dynasty decided to revoke the merger. That was shame because the merger was the best move forward for the Bushwackers as previously noted in this thread. At that time, with no administration (previously Imperial Dynasty staff) the corps was the responsibility of the board of directors. We met with transitional team members from our alumni and after four weeks a second meeting was held where the new board was appointed (as suggested by the transitional team) and the old board resigned. At no point was the corps being held hostage. After the merger was revoked there was no new board or administration to hand the corps over to. It was the responsibility of the outgoing board to make sure we handed over the Bushwackers to a responsible board of directors and alumni. This is what we did yesterday. We are confident the new board and administration will move the corps in the right direction. The outgoing board wishes the Bushwackers all the best the rest of this year, in 2020 and beyond. Go Bush!

  18. In regards to the Guard and percussion judging in BOA. Vandergrift and other Dance Line only groups highlights a blind spot for BOA. There is considerably less risk not tossing weapons into the air. Vandegrift and other groups that do not have strong colorguard programs should really not use any weapons at all because in the current judging of the colorguard there is absolutely no need for them. I suspect those that chose to have weapons in their show are training their younger members for the Winter season, but other than that you have ZERO need for a weaponline in BOA. My Wife, suggested that the top WGI HS Guards Boycott BOA until their units are equally represented in the Judging sheets. I would imagine most top WGI percussion groups must feel the same way. We really have become the Marching arts, not just Marching Band, what justification does BOA have to say that all the people in the Guard and the Percussion do not have an equal contribution to the program and its score.

  19. I have an easy simple way for every drum corps to save money...Wear the same uniform for many years and keep your instruments longer. You are welcome.

  23. I may be the wrong person to ask, since I still like drum corps. There are some aspects (some examples given in recent posts) that I dislike. But ever since "finish your dinner, and you get dessert", I learned to weigh the pros and the cons. I can imagine some ex-fans checking back on occasion, hoping the pros might once again outweigh the cons.

  27. Have no idea how pay for play works since the 1st gets set amount etc for DCA. Somehow I don’t think cutting down prize money will hurt Buccs as much as other corps that will taking a cut.

  28. The band that won visual, Avon, and the judges who awarded them, would likely disagree with you. Their color guard was magnificent and IMO was what delivered them that honor.

  29. Well I wouldn't go that far. But the separate caption is not included as part of the total score. For that matter neither is percussion. BOA scoring definitely has a bias to music (and IMO that's not a bad thing).

  30. both years i got into town in time for 2/3 finals. i went to the show in 99 to see MBI, plus the first chance i ever had to see Chops and Govies, and in 01, cause, well, i had a bass line to tech.

  31. Vandegrift did raise one big question last night... Can a corps go with a dance company/troupe instead of a rifle/flag/sabre guard and still be successful. Vandegrift didn't really have a color guard, but I'll be darned they were amazing last night

  33. There is so much talent in these bands. One thing that goes through my mind when viewing these groups is that often the group is just too large to have any really effective drill - but I've always loved big-picture drill and lately we see so little of it. Everything seems to be pockets of drill on the field. I loved Avon's show musically, but that narration....absolutely not required for that show. "8 beautiful notes" might as well have been Yowza, Yowza, Yowza.

  34. In regards to the "Great Distraction of 2019" and the Madison Scouts, I would take any statistical evidence offered by the incredibly failed executive staff with questioned credibility. That feedback is measured to invoke more false optimism, by the abundantly failing Executive Director. Its sad, and shameful to drag a world class organization through the mud in an effort to save one's own face. We will miss the real Madison Scouts. Long live their memory.

  35. Same old with a new twist: Resentment. When this misguided plan backfires, the sound asleep board will awaken with a jerk! Taking down a world class organization to save your own face is similar to the defiance of so many third world leaders now deposed, or deceased. The bad guy never repents, or assumes liability.

  36. The great distractor of 2019 fooled nobody! Your point is painfully clear, bringing in the girls fixes nothing, and brings about a tundra of betrayal to the fans, the alumni, and the entire drum corp world. The YT video of CK and his yes man, JE was painfully pretentious. know this clearly for the record, the MS have always been inclusive. They also have been all male since day one. This dog dont hunt, and it sure dont fly.

  37. You can bet CK is in the drivers seat once again. The spineless board stands ready to defend the maker of 16th place legends. I wont be watching them moving forward. MS is a legendary name and should be removed from all this mayhem.

  40. or then again, it might have been the announcement of Caption Heads manning recruitment booth at BOAs in Indy as of then. I'm tending to agree with what Continental posted Sunday in response to your original gossip titter: "I'm really sick of this "I've got a secret" crap on here. This corps has been through hell lately. Enough with the innuendos."

  41. So hello all. Bush announced their 2020 open house details today. To be held on Sunday, December 1. Not denying I've seen/heard/read things have been a bit messy in Bushland recently, but it sure looks like someone jumped the gun on the obituary 😁

  42. Revamped Cadets Bluecoats -They were Excellent the last two years, Should have won last year. Crown- How do you get the judges to respect your visual program when you march more than almost every top corps? Vanguard- Just one year removed from gold. They can do it again. Cavaliers- When the Cavaliers are good, they scare everyone. Boston- Waiting for them to take that next step. Spirit-This is the year they make finals! Hopefully.

  43. Totally agree with Fran. For me, it's more about seeing old corps buddies gathered around the Flo. The thrills of the performances are the icing on the cake.

  44. I agree... the friendships/relationships. Old friends, and new friends. Even catching up for a just a few minutes, or waving hello from afar to a familiar face. When I worked the DCA title shows all those years... I would try to spend a minute or two with some of the older folks who ran the circuit, ran the corps, or just were familiar faces... because I never knew if that would be the last time I saw some of them.

  46. I saw there was drama after the merger with Imperial Dynasty was undone, but I did see a new website was launched. I've heard various tales from both camps, not sure why the merger fell through, but I will say the stuff dpread around about the ID guys was utter horse ####, and no matter what or who is to blame, those guys do things the right way. They got burnt once by trying to help out CWp when it was launched, and if they backed out, well that means something was rotten in Denmark. I personally thought the move to DE made a lot of sense in a variety of ways that could only be good for Bush
