  1. It's going to be a tough fight for sure, but BD is always prepared. I think something that I often forget about it, is that I have been lucky enough to watch and / or perform through 3 decades of drum corps greatness. And through all of that, names like BD, Cadets and SCV have maintained that greatness and successfully changed with the activity without losing a step. It's simply staggering the level of talent from both staff and MM's that I've witnessed. Some have been involved in drum corps longer, some shorter. But I hope that all of us can take a few moments throughout the season to come and celebrate what we helped to create in some small way whether by being a fan, staff, volunteer or MM. I'm proud of my drum corps heritage and proud to have competed against some great talent. Much ❤️ Blue Devils.

  3. I agree. The last thread hashed the point all the way to oblivion. Can we move on? Most of us would like to keep the Madison Scouts 2020 thread open

  4. Now sexist is being thrown out there. Jesus Christ. You do realize that ALL corps at one point or another were ALL male because they were under Boy Scout troops, right? Cavies and Madison were keeping that tradition alive. Get off your soapbox. Good lord.

  6. No. I should not have been. Had I wanted to be one bad enough I should/could have auditioned for Madison, or the Cavaliers. I was free to. Just like any female today can join any other corps other than the Cavaliers. They are no more "discriminatory" than the WNBA, or any other all female group. I hope I live long enough to see this cult of victimhood pass, but I doubt it.

  7. It was hashed out to the point of closing the other thread. If some of us do not wish to add to that it is our choice...

  12. Don't forget SOA's last year with the jazz/blues idiom being hyper present as well as Bluecoats with Autumn Leaves. But West Side Story with Sky really capped it off.

  13. Live about a 10 minute drive from the inner city.... why don’t you enlighten us with what “poor” kids are really like. And tell me what corps today help inner city kids....

  14. I LOVE this reference. I wish I'd have thought of this many times. Kudos. (Except, of course, that your comments are not nearly strong enough to bury this Pompeii.)

  15. GREAT pick by you for "one show" that year. I loved so many shows that year - Regiment for example with that winter in white rebuilding show. VK was a blast, Sky Ryders, Cavaliers, etc etc etc...

  16. I really very much appreciate your comments here. Your prior comments seemed driven more by your collecting virtue points than actually describing the drum corps activity. When you resort to the "white men bad" bile, you know you're gonna get push back as usual. There are only a few here who say they actually hate the activity (the conflict should be obvious) so, obviously, those who came before us didn't do a terrible job. I'm glad to hear you acknowledge that we, in this activity today, stand on the shoulders of those who came before us and built what we have today. If drum corps teaches its members about life, I think we adults would teach them well by encouraging such recognition in their broader lives even while they're painting their protest signs hating white men.

  17. I love my YouTube TV! This is a pretty awesome schedule though, I have to admit. Maybe this is the year that I strike it filthy, stupid rich and can afford to throw money at streaming drum corps stuff.

  18. Three panels of explanatory "outrage" that can be reduced to two that creates equity and equality: Build the wall higher than the tallest person. Everyone who didn't buy a ticket gets treated equally. (Also, isn't this panel explanation itself oppressive and exclusionary? Do any non-white, non-male people like baseball? OK, I admit that now I'm just picking on your weak argument.) Drum corps has done an exemplary job of being open and inviting, and the "old white men" who systematically formed and run it have done a pretty good job of bringing it to hundreds of thousands of members and millions of fans. From all of those systematically oppressive white men: "You're welcome".

  19. Hard to eat when you're gagging on the vision of a 250lb white male with both a 5-o'clock and eye shadow serving bad burgers in hot pants and a tank top. "You GO...you!" Oh, and don't forget the big tip because, you know, white men like you have all the money and systematically keep it from the "lowly" wait-person voluntarily serving you.

  20. Most of your arguments here are thin, weak, and poorly-defended, but the profound nature of this statement convinces me that you have a deep and thoughtful understanding of the issue's salient points. /s The "angry white men" of the drum corps community have done a pretty good job of bringing this activity to hundreds of thousands of kids while being among the most open and inviting activities available today. You're welcome if you can manage to hurl a Thank You out with the vomit you're spewing. You're entitled to your own opinion, and you're entitled to come here and try to make your point against the activity. I will welcome the evidence of current systematic discrimination you describe in drum corps (to date, headed by mostly "white men"). Rule books, policy manuals, regulations...anything in writing that demonstrates your point OTHER THAN "We choose to be an all-male group". Something tells me that, for you, this issue goes well beyond whether or not Madison or Cavies are all-male.

  28. No no no, can't feel fine with the Rockettes or any of the organizations that was mentioned because why? They don't include men, which by your definition would be discrimination. So now we have walked into the double standards volume of your encyclopedia of bull. This is where I walk away because you can't want things to be equal but it be okay for all female organizations to exclude men. Simple as that. Also, as a gay male, when is the all male version of Hooters opening up?! Someone needs to start this ASAP!

  29. Having a private organization wanting to be all male is NOT discrimination. Legally or otherwise. You lost the debate big time when you brought up white supremacy.

  31. I think these are the most compelling factors for students moving from Madison to the Cavaliers: An increase in competitive success A greater challenge to take on A desire to be a "blender" in a group versus a leader A similar level of historical prestige (in the same way that the Cadets, Boston, etc have such alluring histories) Geographic proximity Friends in the Cavaliers who previously marched Madison (and, thus, can offer an insider's scoop on how the two groups compare) With Madison having a slightly younger, more inexperienced cast these past two seasons, I think vets feel obligated to serve as leaders if they returned. Some are eager to take on that role and do so with such passion. Others, however, would rather march at a group where they just get to "do their job" and blend in with the rest of the ensemble on the field, vs being burdened with any off-field leadership roles. In that sense, I feel like Madison has done a tremendous job at awakening students to the breadth of their potential (thanks to all the leadership training each member undergoes). It just so happens that, after becoming more self-aware, many students discover that their growth would happen more rapidly elsewhere; on the other hand, many students discover that Madison doesn't offer enough to satisfy their cravings for growth. If this is all true, it feels like the next step for Madison, then, is to find more ways to keep their students hungry. I'm hopeful that a more robust, competitive show this summer can do exactly that. All of this is to say: I think that the Madison students going to Cavaliers are simply seeking a more intense experience that better aligns with their personal desires. While the all-male brotherhood of the Cavaliers may resemble their social environment from Madison, I think this is an unimportant factor.

  32. A three-peat will have to wait until 2021....remember that SCV took the title in 2018. They've been close to a three-peat 5 times...in all cases when they lost the third one, they won the following year. The streaks were broken by SCV twice, Cadets twice, and Bloo once. Going against BD is always a tough fight.

  37. I can get rid of this troublesome itch before tour starts. J/K The women in Madison have a smooth transition into the corps. The Cadets take a big step forward The battle for top 12 is as exciting as it was last year. The battle for the top spot is as exciting as it was last year. No shinny tarps. Safe travels for all corps this summer. No rain in Allentown
