Glad to see them announce this now instead of announcing it the day it goes into effect. YEA and Cadets need to be ahead of the story instead of continuing to allow the rumor mill to run wild! There are going to be many questions as to if the Cadets can stand on their own financially. Now donor's will at least know where their donations are being allocated by who they chose to donate to.3 points

Hi! My husband definitely wanted trumpet but a 6th grader wants to be opposite his dad, he wanted a woodwind. Instructors suggested Baritone. He went with the baritone! My son will graduate from Homestead High School in Fort Wayne (about 2 hours north of Indy). They are a consistent top 3 in the state under Avon and Carmel as well as a BOA grand national finalist. Their previous band directors have all been very resistant to having HS kids do drum corps, but their new director works for the Bluecoats, so I see that mindset changing in the future. My husband marched with the Blue Devils (C,B, and A corps) from 1992-2000. I went to audition for Star of Indiana in the fall of 1993 (and we all know how that turned out). Most of my friends I taught color guard with are all over the place or retired now from the activity. My husbandās fellow BD alum are everywhere too including Cavies and Blue Knights (although he just took the summer off this year for the first time in ages). However, we still have connections at BD. Staff seem to move around a bunch! Oh, and I believe the marching staff from the Scouts last year are with the Crossmen, and theyāre old instructors of mine long ago. We taught in the same circuit and stayed in touch! My sonās mindset is all about being the best. And in his young mind (and being pressed by his dad) the only option was the Blue Devils. However, this is not realistic these days (even with my in-laws living in Concord). Both financially and likely talent-wise with the fact that my son is inexperienced. So we reached out to friends (all listed above), and we got rave reviews about the staff at the Scouts. After talking with one particular friend who lived with and worked with the vis caption head, my son was very encouraged and excited to potentially work with these people. And here we are š Anyway, we as drum corps people know this is a family activity, and Iām so excited to help and get involved. I hope I answered all your questions!3 points

Speaking of the Cadets 2020 and 1980...LOL... I just realized that this year is the 40-year anniversary of "the year that saved the Cadets"... when the corps was on the brink of going under before the season started, then rallied and made it back into Finals.3 points

Nice move for them to include the comment from DCI supporting The Cadets in 2020. At least the corps can move forward now as its own entity. Now as donors and supporters we need to step up and support this corps. There is still a lot of work to be done but its a good start.2 points

How about opening a general thread about this issue instead of tagging on to other threads? That way if it gets closed you donāt kill other discussions2 points

With the "moderate Madison infusion to Rosemont" thread now forced down, I had to take my comment back here. A bit of honesty first; over many years 2 corps were my favorite for many reasons, The Madison Scouts, and the Cavaliers. Both being historical, legendary, and innovative. In the months this thread has run, the reality of the MS transformation has set in. Its hard to imagine what the MS may look, and sound like, but one would expect great change. With just one last all male corp standing, I feel compelled to protect them like an endangered species, and somewhat hope that others might form to further protect that class. I know its a long way from politically correct, if there is such a thing in this case, but I am hoping the Cavaliers bring an even higher level of greatness to the field this year, and the MS inheritance cant hurt. Sorry if this offends some of you, but some changes just are not all that welcomed. I'm not ready for the NFL to go coed either if that helps.2 points

sounds like more details coming soon - I'm glad they've gotten through the legal hurdles to divide Cadets from YEA! and all that baggage and debt A few more details tba at the weekend camp and then the alumni meeting - prob more public news following those chats I would think1 point

Honestly I wish they would announce the show much earlier than the first show of the year. think about it theyāve done it for how many years... predictable is not a good look š1 point

I know the internet is a hive of anonymity, but Iām likely more transparent than I should be š My son hates that his parents are connected and he loves it at the same time. He loves the variety in the Bari Euphs with the Scouts. Heās found a few good friends already with one from Brownsburg, one from Carroll Ft Wayne, one from Mt Orion (Michigan?). The section leader is super knowledgeable and extremely helpful to the rookies. The kid is on his game with answers. Iām happy to pass along any āinsideā info An outside-looking-in parent can! Except show music and such. I know better. š1 point

Thanks for such a thorough, transparent, wholly & healthfully honest response, that for my opinion is so refreshing. Haven't read every post in this thread, but THESE human "interest" stories.........REAL kids in the ranks info/background, and YOU two parents longevity/story.......are what I'd like to read more. That's why I asked..........kinda sensed YOU were the one who could put a REAL face to the current mm MS story. Again, thanks for your reply.1 point

This is a well thought out move by the Cadets. The current management team is on top of all the details regarding this new start for the Cadets!1 point

Didnāt USBands cover all the debt that the cadets have? Wondering where the extra funds outside of development will come from1 point

Splitting the two entities into separate nonprofits is probably the best idea they've had in a long time. I think it'll lead to more financial stability for both Cadets and USBands.1 point

Mod hat here: Please keep the thread focus on the 2020 Scouts. Do not drag in items from a closed thread.1 point

IIRC Hanover had a Jr show that year and contracted Cadets for well under $1000. And Corps was glad for that... At least that was the bus story....1 point

Drum corps is STILL ALIVE!!!! It may not be the same as when you marched but that was when we were kids. Today's kids still call it drum corps! Funny how this was started 12 years ago and corps play even better than back then.1 point

I remember that abrupt transition after the ballad into the stabs for the closer. 2012 Spirit of Atlanta! And it got cut in the CD also!1 point

Speaking of DCI videos... Eminem performed his Oscar-winning song "Lose Yourself" (from 8 Mile) tonight, some 17 years after it won at an Oscar ceremony he didn't attend. So a trivia question. Don't cheat and use DCX to look it up! Which Finalist corps included a sample of "Lose Yourself"? Bonus point for also naming the year. (As I recall, that sample was deleted from the DCI video for copyright reasons.)1 point

Hey if no one gripes that means no one cares.... good luck to him and good for him that he picked up on the corps history before he even joined.1 point

Boy, you guys know how to welcome a new member to the family š I guess knowing the history some have with admin is relevant knowledge, so Iāve been continuing to lurk. Just a note. My sonās decision to audition for the Madison Scouts had zero to do with being coed or their past successes/struggles. My husband and I have a ton of connections to staff members in different drum corps due to our history with the marching arts. There were so many positive comments about the staff that has been assembled with the Scouts this year. That was the only reason my son auditioned... because he was encouraged by our friends to learn from these teachers specifically. He has since watched as many MS shows he could on YouTube and has learned quite a bit of history through the returning members. My son has had an amazing high school experience with competitive success, and we are cautiously optimistic with his happiness with his experience with MS so far. Albeit, 3 camps. But he has already learned and improved so much with the staff and members in that small amount of time. Camp is this coming weekend, and heās been practicing his tail off. The members are excited about their upcoming season! šš¤āļø1 point

Through all this strife the Cavaliers grow stronger. They are a great organization and earned their way in with strong leadership, identity, and vision. These are qualities I no longer see in MS. I do not believe anything from MS admins or PR, where credibility is gone. It is a new day.1 point

drum & bugle corps died when there were no more bugles, when marching became dancing, when uniforms became costumes, when band people who were jealous of our precision and discipline and our corps spirit slowly but surely wormed their way in, when members started wearing leotards & make-up, when drumline& hornline instructors became staff, when marching and maneuvering was no longer a caption , when corps members were no longer from the town or city in the title of their corps names and we all grew up together and were/ are brothers and sisters for life, when we would defend the honor of our beloved corps both on and off the field, when judges were all over us on the field looking for the slightest mistake not just giving opinions, when a corps could start the season on the bottom and work it's way to the top and not be SLOTTED, when corps members stayed corps members for life and not jumping from one corps to another. Trumpets, tubas, now slide trombones, electronic synthesizers, props, singing, what the hell is next? look i'm not questioning the musical artistic talent of the people involved in what is loosely called drum corps. It;s simply not drum & bugle corps. and the letters D. C.I . to me do not stand for Drum Corps International. they stand for Dance Company INTERNATIONAL. And they are not Drum Corps- They are BRASS BANDS,period! You know what bothers me most is why couldn't they leave it alone and let it keep progressing along as it was? When i listen to the incredible shows that the corps like The Brassmen , The Santa Clara Vanaguard, Chicago, Garfield, The Blue Devils, and so many more put on the field i'm at a loss at why anyone would mess that up. I would put the talent of the top Drum & Bugle Corps from the 70's-80's& 90's against anything in modern so called drum-corps today. Can anyone out there remember the incredible precision of a twelve plus rifle line? The entire Guard in total perfect movement, not jumping and prancing around. Drumlines playing incredibly difficult books not just continuous 32nd note rolls and mile high double stops by 16 snares for visual effect? And the hornlines back then (all bugles) were more powerful and could go toe to toe with anything out there today! There's more that was lost with the death of Drum& Bugle Corps! probably the worst is that these kids don't hang together like we did. I was in one of the oldest Corps . Still active today. But the young folks in the corps now come from all over the country, the world actually. They don't hang together all year long like we did. They work extremely hard during the season together,, then it's off to school til next year and maybe even another Corps because it has a better chance of winning. Lastly i want to say that in no way did i mean to be insulting. my point is simply that Drum& Bugle Corps died a long time ago. And to anyone who marched in Drum& Bugle Corps back in my day,(60's-70's), the attitude was the same as a boxer about an opponent in the ring, that's how i(we) felt about the Corps we were competing against on the field. But there was always respect and the knowledge that we were part of something quite special.DRUM & BUGLE CORPS. It was an honor ! So no, Drum & Bugle Corps did not evolve,it died a long time ago!1 point

Carley Patch doesnāt miss a beat. Earlier this month, the Castleton University senior was accepted to tour with the Boston Crusaders, an elite, competitive drum-and-bugle corps for student musicians younger than 22. The third-oldest drum-and-bugle corps in the country, the Crusaders are founding members of Drum Corps International, a nonprofit organization for musical education and [ā¦] View the full article1 point

Hi everyone! Bloo has not gone inactive despite the lack of recent posts. Auditions have gone very well. Can you envision having almost 100 trumpets audition, alone? Or can you imagine a 100% Bloo vet snare line? The design team has many decisions made and are busy working to bring Bloo to the next level. I canāt wait to see what drum corpsā mad scientists bring to the field this year! Oh, and no drama.1 point
