  1. It would be great if DCI's DVDs/Blurays included bonus features with alternate endings and the like.

  2. We lost half of our competitive/performance season (in-door winds) this spring because of the lockdown. So, several of us worked together to record this video as a way to cap the year… and alleviate some boredom. It’s not perfect, but it’s fun… and that’s why we do what we do. Feel free to share. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VrDuOmKww7Y *Yes, we're playing G Bugles.

  5. When developing a vaccine, part of the process is looking for antibodies in (volunteer) test subjects some months after the vaccine is administered. And it takes 6 months of waiting until you can get a 6 month data point.

  6. But they do a lousy job of defining what they mean by pre-existing medical condition. If I have hypertension well controlled by medication, do I have a pre-existing medical condition? That describes many millions of Americans yet I’ve not seen an answer. Seems like a very basic question too. DCI. Haircuts.

  9. Yup, definitely. Already schools are starting to make changes. Boston University announced that they're considering not re-opening the school until January 2021 (I assume they will be online until then) Colleges are now starting to consider removing the requirement for SAT and ACT scores due to testing centers being closed for the foreseeable future. I suspect public high schools will be even more cautious since they all fall under the jurisdiction of state governments, which will surely affect DCI for next season. The reality is that until reliable and efficient testing methods are developed, the education system in our country is going to need to make some dramatic changes. I just hope that happens before next summer.

  10. I'm sure it is the salary cap that is keeping the NFL afloat and not the fact the owners are billionaires or that the league brings in billions of dollars every year

  11. I am in dental school who, before all this craziness, was treating patients on the daily. As a healthcare provider, I am well aware of the effects this disease is having on our healthcare system. I live it. The mask decision was puzzling, but I suspect the reason for it was mainly due to concerns about supply. Once hospitals started becoming overloaded, the concern shifted over to flattening the curve, hence the mask recommendation. I take issue with your 99+% efficiency, seems like it was pulled more out of your ### than from a poll or study. The governor of North Dakota is still refusing to issue a stay at home order for his state. The economy is no doubt a concern and lives will be impacted if we stay at our current course. They already are. But this virus is something very different from what we've seen before. Not sure if you've been following the experiments being done, a team in France recently discovered that even when the virus is heating to 140 degrees Fahrenheit for an hour, some strains of the virus were able to survive and replicate. Now, I'm not going to go into conspiracy theories about this being a lab created virus, but this is something very different than what we are used to. We're finding out every day just how much deaths are being under-reported. I understand the cries for opening the economy back up, but I'm afraid things will only get worse if we do.

  18. yes...and no. when people without medical degrees start opining, with or without political bent, showing links and graphs that support their beliefs...then no. and there's more of that than actually discussing what it will mean to DCI's future

  19. I think you will see things turn to an alternative way of schooling for some. I have already seen TV ad's on free on line schooling K-12. I do think schools may re- open for sure BUT I might be a longer haul for large events or things that take students out of town. Out least in the beginning. As I said "IF" there is a 2nd wave of this it will only make such changes inevitable. Like after 9/11, life as we knew it changed, Sadly for many this will be no different. Unfortunately IMO there are also those who forget , or choose 2

  21. Yes. Those concerns are going to be topics of discussion for months to come. If quarantine/isolation remain our primary responses to health concerns for lack of treatments, prophylactics or vaccines, restarting drum corps gets very complicated. You can imagine drum corps may be one of the last things to reopen. Regarding lawsuits, there will be certain new safety/hygiene practices required of drum corps, and it would be a liability issue if they fail to do so... just like any other failure to keep people safe.

  22. Due to the cancellation of the 2020 DCI season, we are disabling all automatic renewals of the DrumScorps Season Pass. Furthermore, the Season Pass will no longer be available for purchase within the app. As many of you know, the Season Pass, at an annual cost of $1.99, provides access to recaps, show repertoires, and more within the DrumScorps app. Since there will be no recap and repertoire data for the 2020 season, we will not be providing the Season Pass as an option within the app for 2020. Everyone stay safe and healthy and we look forward to providing DCI scores and more for the 2021 season. - The DrumScorps Team

  23. Our local paper did an article about this. According to article, absent hoarding, shelter at home has increased demand. There's an oversupply of commercial TP,but it tends to be single ply,not double ply ,like "Charman". A number of stores out here in N.J. are now selling individual rolls of commercial TP and PT.

  24. I read that the latest products being hoarded were hair clippers and hair color. The perfect opportunity for spray-on hair to make a comeback. As for TP, I noticed this past week that a new size of TP was being put on shelves. A package of 4 rolls that are almost comically small for a very high price. I've never seen rolls that small - not just in diameter, but the width. When this calms down toilet paper will be the new bitcoin....lol.

  25. Star also played Walton in 1990, admittedly with a more specific theme (Belshazzar's Feast), but that's still quite a lot of Walton in a few years.

  26. How is Crown doing financially? Their website says they need help now more than ever. It sounds somewhat desperate, so I sent them $1000. More than I could afford now, but I put it on the credit card. I'll pay it off later.

  28. Mods can delete this one but just saw a talking head on a cable news network blast the medical profession for “overestimating” number of cases. He didn’t say it out loud but jist of rant was don’t trust the medical people on this..... Trying to get back on track but all I can think of is DCI better use common sense and listen to the careful side to be safe as possible

  29. Those are still guesses—in absence of actual data. Hunches. [Please correct me if I’m wrong on this, but I haven’t seen anyone link an actual study, with tangible data, to statements like these. I’m not saying there aren’t, I just don’t recall them being backed up. From either end of the viewpoint spectrum.] You say we don’t have all the facts, but then state that, when we do... it’s going to be this. Without all the facts, how do you know? I honestly don’t understand. What you call an overreaction, some call preventing disaster. Who’s right? I don’t know. But my hunch is it’s probably somewhere in between. We want to have certainty; to break things down into binary equations: good/bad, safe/overreacting, in danger/in the clear, us/them. But life doesn’t work that way. It’s messy, often without clear cut yes/no answers. I honestly have no idea what the landscape of this country is going to look like in twelve months. I hope for better, including having a DCI season for all of us to enjoy. But I think there are going to be ramifications and changes. The question is, how significant? I think it’s an interesting question and am still curious as to what others here think about it.

  31. Why? What is your cutoff for how much per year a drum corps should cost? How many employees are they allow to have?

  32. I can't speak for the Bluecoats, but in general, a modern drum corps payroll is going to include truck drivers, a traveling physician, nurse, physical trainer, professional chef, (the cooking crew are probably volunteers), as well as 60-70 instructional staff. Remember, staff rarely are on tour all 70 days at the same time. It is tempting to compare back to 40 years ago, but really, it is not even the same activity. We no longer have corps dads driving 35 years old buses with no AC and eating mac and cheese for every meal. Did any corps even carry liability insiurance back in the 70s'? I doubt it. My corps had no paid staff either in those days, and the various sections actually prepared the "meals". Thank God we have evolved. When I marched, we had basically 2 two week tours....Tour A and Tour B..with a bunch of long weekends in between. Modern drum corps is a whole different beast, and it does cost a lot of money. Some corps are better equipped financially than other. I hope they can all make it back.

  35. Yes, this (above). The data everybody is using to base their decisions on is extremely flawed. Only a tiny fraction of the actual cases are reported due to the severe lack of tests. Add to that most people being tested are ones that show fairly severe symptoms of COVID. This leads to an extreme understatement in the actual infection rate and overstatement in the true mortality rate. We count every death (most have severe underlying conditions) but only a tiny fraction of the cases. This has led to the extreme overreaction we are in now. Nobody will actually admit they were way off in the estimation of the lethality of COVID and when the data shows the fatality rate far, far below what was originally stated you will be told it is due to social distancing and lockdown. This is incorrect. We are still funneling into the grocery store, Wal-Mart, and Target. You are still being exposed. It is just way less dangerous than you were told. I'm sure lots of you will disagree, and that is fine. Pay attention to the data in the coming weeks.
