  1. Here are the official Coronavirus guidelines for those that get might get mixed messages: 1. Basically, you can't leave the house for any reason, but if you have to, then you can. 2. Masks are useless, but maybe you have to wear one, it can save you, it is useless, but maybe it is mandatory as well. 3. Stores are closed, except those that are open. 4. You should not go to hospitals unless you have to go there. Same applies to doctors, you should only go there in case of emergency, provided you are not too sick. 5. This virus is deadly but still not too scary, except that sometimes it actually leads to a global disaster. 6. Gloves won't help, but they can still help. 7. Everyone needs to stay HOME, but it's important to GO OUT. 8. There is no shortage of groceries in the supermarket, but there are many things missing when you go there in the evening, but not in the morning. Sometimes. 9. The virus has no effect on children except those it affects. 10. Animals are not affected, but there is still a cat that tested positive in Belgium in February when no one had been tested, plus a few tigers here and there… 11. You will have many symptoms when you are sick, but you can also get sick without symptoms, have symptoms without being sick, or be contagious without having symptoms. Oh, my.. 12. In order not to get sick, you have to eat well and exercise, but eat whatever you have on hand and it's better not to go out, well, but no… 13. It's better to get some fresh air, but you get looked at very wrong when you get some fresh air, and most importantly, you don't go to parks or walk. But don’t sit down, except that you can do that now if you are old, but not for too long or if you are pregnant (but not too old). 14. You can't go to retirement homes, but you have to take care of the elderly and bring food and medication. 15. If you are sick, you can't go out, but you can go to the pharmacy. 16. You can get restaurant food delivered to the house, which may have been prepared by people who didn't wear masks or gloves. But you have to have your groceries decontaminated outside for 3 hours. Pizza too? 17. Every disturbing article or disturbing interview starts with " I don't want to trigger panic, but…" 18. You can't see your older mother or grandmother, but you can take a taxi and meet an older taxi driver. 19. You can walk around with a friend but not with your family if they don't live under the same roof. 20. You are safe if you maintain the appropriate social distance, but you can’t go out with friends or strangers at the safe social distance. 21. The virus remains active on different surfaces for two hours, no, four, no, six, no, we didn't say hours, maybe days? But it takes a damp environment. Oh no, not necessarily. 22. The virus stays in the air - well no, or yes, maybe, especially in a closed room, in one hour a sick person can infect ten, so if it falls, all our children were already infected at school before it was closed. But remember, if you stay at the recommended social distance, however in certain circumstances you should maintain a greater distance, which, studies show, the virus can travel further, maybe. 23. We count the number of deaths but we don't know how many people are infected as we have only tested so far those who were "almost dead" to find out if that's what they will die of… 24. We have no treatment, except that there may be one that apparently is not dangerous unless you take too much (which is the case with all medications). 25. We should stay locked up until the virus disappears, but it will only disappear if we achieve collective immunity, so when it circulates… but we must no longer be locked up for that?

  2. Saw news earlier showing protests by people who’d not want to stay home and prefer, apparently, to take their chances with Covid-19. One girl in a truck had a sign saying “I will not comply”. I couldn’t help but think it was selfish and disrespectful. I support the right to protest when your rights are violated or when you are wronged. This is not the case considering the reasons for the stay at home guidance. What it tells me is, they don’t care if I die. They don’t care if anyone dies as a result of their protestation to be outside in large groups. Taking THEIR chances? I am currently watching the One World show. What the nurses, doctors, researchers, first responders, grocery workers, delivery people and many others are doing, is trying to help us get through this. I worked my butt of when I marched and taught, working long hours, eating not so great food at times, putting up with much more than I am asked to do now, which is stay at home, don’t infect anyone, don’t get infected. This is easier than doing drum corps. Plus I may not die. This will be over, we will get through it. But we need to do this together. TOGETHER! Drum Corps taught us all one thing for sure; be patient, put in the work and you will be successful. Put in the work of staying at home. Godspeed everyone.

  8. You asked me to show a study, I did. Now you are moving the goalposts, as people who argue without evidence always do. You are not arguing in good faith, I am done responding to you. (btw, who’s the one getting political now? Mods?)

  9. There’s also ongoing research using computer modeling to see if exiting drugs could interfere with SARS-CoV-2 binding sites and be used to treat infectious. I Think UT Southwestern is involved with one of these studies. Interestingly, Rosuvastatin was one that showed promise. (Which I happen to be taking. Yay for dyslipidemia!)

  11. Ahhh “that guy” who runs the daily briefings was pushing it for days.... (was hoping what I put in quotes would be a clue without crossing the line). then the shorter older guy with glasses would start talking about needing more testing... edit: imo this is why the hydro... bandwagon started in the first place

  12. Well, actually, no. Not at all. I said - IF there is a chance it could work and I’m on my death bed with C-19, then I want to be shot up with it!! That is nowhere close to a claim that “it will do marvelous things.” Not close. But others (not saying you) have twisted the argument that way in order to discredit the source.

  14. until governments at all levels can work together, push back the partisian pissing matches and there's enough tests and resources to check every living human being, there's going to major changes and issues and restrictions across every single facet of life. in places where things have been eased, boom, new cases are starting to appear. i like most of you and i love drum corps, but no way i am risking my life to sit in the stands and be able to catch this, which apparently can be carried by people showing zero symptoms just because i wanna hear clean beats

  15. You aren't going to see what you wish for. IMO, it could be bigger than ever as far as production for some and MAYBE a scale back for some. People will want to come back bigger and better than ever. With that said, as I said somewhere else, I do alot of auditions winter, summer and fall and as of now at least there is a concern coming back to a very intimate activity, This is among members as well as parents . This of course can change, people do tend to forget easily. The actual practices on tour can get even more strict. A few questions would be 1 will buses be disinfected on a daily basis 2 will corps bring with them instant testing kits ( when they become available ) 3. Will schools allow corps to camp out at their facilities 4. Will schools charge even more to use facilities, including a team to come in and disinfect afterward 5. Will food trucks be under a stricter compliance 6. IF.( hopefully not ) there is a 2nd out break while on tour, WHAT HAPPENS ( a plan in place ) 7. Will tour sites be re- configured so that members spend LESS time on a bus and fewer long distances nights. As in stay in an area within a few hours for a few weeks, then travel further then do the same at that area, etc etc Just a few things I am very sure that have to be addressed. I would hope ALL people will learn something from all of this but that's alot of hoping IMO

  16. Like I said back on page 5 of this thread, if we are still looking at localized lockdowns and quarantines because of the absence of widely deployed vaccine or medicinal treatment, the 2021 tour will need to be materially different. Whether the discussion veers toward the first half or second half of that sentence, it still seems relevant to me. But I would like to hear more than two people say something about the second half of that sentence.

  17. How about one final word on hydrox.... One side is saying it will do marvelous things before the proof is in. One side is saying we need testing before we can say it will do marvelous things. Other that that I see people talking over each other and not hearing what is being said... Back to DCI?

  18. If, heaven forbid, you were in the ICU with the Covid and on your death bed, and you knew hydroxychloroquine were available at your hospital, would you ask for it? Or would you say, nah, there’s no double blind test conclusively proving it works so no thanks. I think if we’re honest with ourselves we know how we’d answer that question. And that was the only point. It has been twisted and weaponized solely because of who the messenger was. That’s a sad commentary.

  19. Here is an attempt to reconcile Cixelsyd & Jim's comments.... If Corps required members to take hydroxychloroquine while at ST & on tour (or mixed it in the food) then perhaps Covid risk would be lower. At the very least the members won't come down with malaria.

  22. Hydroxychloroquine does have some known value for other conditions. It hasn't yet been shown to have any great value for coronavirus treatment. A study released today found it did no good, but it was a small study, and also it came from a Chinese source whose reliability some are questioning. Meanwhile doctors have been trying it in some New York hospitals for a few weeks now, but from what I've read (in those doctors' own words), it hasn't done any good. It also comes with some risky cardiac side effects. I hope it turns out to be of use! But the desperate rumors about it have had some negative effects: (1) Because there's been a run on supplies, people with lupus, a disease it's used to treat, are finding it hard to get medication they need. (2) Some gullible people misunderstood reports about it and ingested a related compound and got sick. (3) Today the Dept. of Justice charged a doctor with mail fraud for selling the drug as a miracle cure. None of those things mean that it won't turn out that hydroxychloroquine, administered in the right way at the right moment of infection, doesn't have a place in treating COVID19. But there's no solid evidence of that to date. We also don't know yet whether remdesivir will prove worthwhie. A leaked report yesterday from its manufacturer, Gilead, indicates that it might be quite useful. (On these forums, that drug was first mentioned more than a month ago by garfield.) But the company has yet to confirm that. Tonight on TV I saw Dr. Zeke Emmanuel, the chair of the Department of Medical Ethics and Health Policy at the University of Pennsylvania, say that even if the remdesivir results are good, it's still going to be of limited value, because the drug is administered intravenously. It won't be a pill or a shot that keeps anyone safe. If it works, it will keep hospitalized patients from dying -- but it's not a drug that will keep people out of the hospital in the first place. Still, every little bit helps. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Speaking of which, the number of COVID19 deaths in the U.S. nearly doubled in the past week ... but that's (relatively) good news. 7 weeks ago: 0 deaths 6 weeks ago: 17 deaths 5 weeks ago: 49 deaths (+188%) 4 weeks ago: 249 deaths (+408%) 3 weeks ago: 1,588 deaths (+583%) 2 weeks ago: 7,152 deaths (+350%) 1 week ago: 18,758 deaths (+160%) Now: 36,997 deaths (+97%) If the average rate of decline in growth over the past three weeks continues (it's 55%, right?), this wave will result in 105,000 total deaths. Fingers crossed that we can finish below that total.

  24. I was NOT responding to HD. So the post you quoted had NOTHING to do with using the med with people in risk of dying. Actually if I was at that risk I would volunteer to try it. If I didn’t make it then at least I contributed something. I was talking about people saying that the med is a “game changer” and should be put into wide spread usecwithout further testing.

  26. Suppose DCI can't have a 2021 season. What can corps do to survive that long? DCI has long touted its educational value. Are there distance-learning activities that corps can offer? For that matter, can they do so now, to stay in touch with members (or potential members)?

  27. "Have a real chance to be.." are not qualifying words, but simply a statement of opinion. The key word in qualifying something is "IF". When "IF" appears, then we can have a statement that might be true IF something else is fulfilled or true. The first statement is qualified by the word IF or other words to that effect. Hopefully never qualifies anything. Now perhaps you can get back to the subject, I hope!

  30. My sister told me about this back then. Also there is a Band Director in that area who is a BAC alumni from the 80's. He was already not a fan of Garfield but after this happened he probably had a few choice words to say about Hopkins. LOL I bet he still holds a grudge and is anti Garfield.

  31. Maybe we all need a vaccine from the Mental Covid? It depresses me to no end that corps and DCI itself might not make it. I think it is a real possibility if things stay shuttered. Many things will become the old days and quick.

  35. A number of people mention "record setting attendance". What exactly does that refer to ,and from when to when ? Attendance at specific drum corps competitions may have grown , especially at regional events. But,could that be because there are a lot less competitions to go to then years ago ? These DCI events generate large crowds. But ,and I don't think there is any way to do this, what is the overall per season attendance now, compared to say all the competitions for a season in the 70's/80's. I first started following drum corps back in the mid 70's. There used to be a couple of local competitions in the area I lived in North Jersey almost every weekend. Obviously small venues, but they were packed. Now,we get one show in Clifton or Metlife. Add up the attendance for all the small venues shows nationwide, for a full season, back then, and you'll get a pretty big number. Just don't know anyway to do it.

  36. The record setting attendance would suggest that it was an evolution. Band/drum corps is more popular now than it’s ever been and it’s trending upward despite funding cuts to music education.
