  1. That’s why I asked him. I wanted to be fair and and better understand what he and others are saying.

  2. no and thus the biggest complaint about design......she loves it yet doesn't get it all. too many fans don't get it all and don't have the desire to dig for all the super deep hidden meanings. her reaction is what more fans need to have without having to know all that

  3. We would need to go into the history of this area. It's a very long discussion. That being said, we are now in beginning of a movement that is being controlled by the youth of society. As much our discussions on DCP show just how advanced we are in age, we are the witness to a youth movement that will change how society operates. We can complain and comment on everything that makes us different, however in this case we are being benefited by a youthful view.

  5. These days, can ANYONE understand the subtleties of a show from a single viewing? More importantly, does it really matter? She's promoting the activity.

  6. Just read city in Alabama threw out a mask ordinance because it went against a persons “rights”. Funny... I can’t shoot a gun in my yard because someone might get hurt, I can’t burn stuff during a drought because someone’s property might be damaged. But tell people to wear a mask to protect people health... unconstitutional!!🤯

  7. They're still free to choose. They're constrained only by their own consciences.

  8. Does it matter? There’s nothing wrong with just enjoying a show at face value, which a lot of the abstract shows let you do. Now some corps, who take everything too literally, well it’s a bit harder to take at face value for sure when you’re distracted by the cheese

  9. Slightly off topic but what an absolute gift the Supreme Court gave to us the other day! I hope LBGTQ participation continues at a high level in drum corps

  10. BD's worst meal in 84 was beef stroganoff. Not many of us ate it...so after the Pt. Huron rainout show, when we were stuck at the Canadian border with Garfield, Freelancers, and 27th, we gave it to Garfield....and we sat on our busses in slack-jawed amazement watching them pound it down like there was no tomorrow. Even today, alums of 84 Cadets tell me that was their BEST meal all year!

  11. I don't want to get people down but this week would have been the kick off week to 2020. Basically opening weekend to drum corp. I have to admit it's really tough. I know we kinda argue about shows and rankings but I miss that. All I can say looking forward to 2021 and I will appreciate this activity more now than ever.

  12. I hope someone is looking into these incidents where it spread so broadly and quickly (there have been others as well, like that choir) as they seem like opportunities to learn from. Clearly it doesn’t happen this way all the time, so what was different about these cases? Were they a foot apart instead of two? Were they sharing glassware or utensils? Were they eating or drinking something prepared by a same infected individual? Is there a time (perhaps brief) where someone is way more contagious than other times? Does alcohol lower resistance? Does staying isolated for a long time make you more susceptible when you do come out?

  13. My doctor administered the COVID-19 antibody test to me and my wife. We both came back negative. Yes, it can kill me. Yes, it's still a very real threat but I am OVER IT. I wear a surgical mask at all times in public and will continue to wash my hands a million times a day. Time to live life again.

  14. Agree , . As we think it's predictable, then it isn't. All the more reason to be on the side of safety

  19. Agreed. My favorite film critic made a similar point when he reviewed the 1976 movie Network, which starred William Holden, Faye Dunaway, Peter Finch, Robert Duvall, and Ned Beatty. (Even people who've never seen the film probably know its most famous line: "I'm mad as hell, and I'm not going to take it anymore!") He pointed out that there are a number of in-jokes in the film that New Yorkers would immediately spot: a scene that's supposed to take place outside a church is actually shot in front of a well-known synagogue, and the headquarters of an evil international organization is actually the New York public library. The critic said these were "the best kind" of in-jokes: if you don't catch them, your enjoyment of the movie isn't hindered, because it works even for those without that specialized knowledge.

  20. Everyone has a conscience. But also some people do put self-interest ahead of morality. Both things can be true.

  22. Ya virtue signalling/mind reading run amok. People that are already decent human beings don't need to virtue signal. Just saying.

  23. Are you saying people who choose not to boycott businesses you think they should boycott do not have consciences? I’ve already heard it said here that they don’t have morality and are motivated by their own self-interests.

  25. yes i don't support places i don't like. That's why i also don't go to NASCAR, opera, monster truck shows, standstill drum corps concerts, Klan rallies, etc.

  26. A boycott is not self-regulation. It is creation of an artificial scarcity of demand.

  27. if you go on you tube and search "1980 bridgemen" there's a 6 minute PM Magazine story about the corps. The whole video is fun to watch. But at the 3:10 mark they talk about the Bridgemen getting a special dinner, paid for by a third party. Shows how scarce food could be.

  28. Its all relative. Still, if the question is about "free market", I see a huge difference between encouraging commerce (with those one likes), vs. discouraging commerce (with those one dislikes).

  29. I see younger people not wearing masks - the majority of older people are taking this seriously. Some are treating it like every single person has the plague and they need to keep 50 feet of distance. I just smile. Yes, I smile behind a mask.

  30. I read what I can. I use more than one source - even two is not enough. I live in a small city within a larger one. We are the only municipality in Canada to have a new bylaw that states we must wear a mask inside places of commerce or in municipal buildings. We are expecting a 5 day heat wave this week. No one is complaining to the point of protesting. We wear the mask because it will help. It is not comfortable to wear a mask in 90+ F temperatures. We manage. We also have rights here. There are places I will not shop at because of how they behave - whether socially or with regard to how their employees are treated. It is my right. It is not rocket science. I have the right to do this. As for convincing other people. They can listen or they can do what they want. That includes family and friends.

  31. That is the story I heard from a MM some years later - that was all the Corps could afford on more than one occasion. We may gripe about how good it was BITD, but food & bus safety are 2 things that are FAR better today than in Ye Olden Days

  32. Can you please stop using mind control? It's affecting where I want to eat. After I read your posts it's as if I have no freedom of thought.

  33. In open market I thought word of mouth was important. You could say “you should go there, the food is great” or “When I was there they messed up my order and acted like it was my fault, If I were you I’d go elsewhere “. IOW can be positive or negative.
    1 point
  34. The word used was “discourage” not “order”. I read discourage as telling people why you don’t patronize a place and why you think/wish they wouldn’t either. Order is when you tell people what not to do...

  35. Since you asked, let us explore that. This subtopic started with these posts: Your initial contention of tangibly supporting those with whom you agree is free market... and had this been a list of "Theaters Speaking Out", it would have been pertinent too. But instead, this was a list of "Theaters Not Speaking Out". See the difference? Your initial contention of tangibly supporting those with whom you agree is free market. But then you went here: No, that is the exact opposite. You are telling people what not to choose. You seek to constrain their choices. That is not "free market".

  38. Several organizations did attempt to placate BLM. Haven’t seen any plan for more inclusion of minorities due to Social stratification. Very disingenuous considering that the corner stone of drum corps was inclusive of membership within the community regardless of race. Smells of virtue signaling.

  39. I don’t go to CFA but I don’t try to convince others to do the same. So is this the definition of boycott or just making a personal decision not to go there? I don’t call it a boycott as i think of a boycott as a group effort. So I’m probably misusing the definition. I don’t go to local Taco Bell anymore as the food went to crap. So boycott or not wanting to be up with gas half the night?

  41. I assure you Mr. Dan Cathy has received the message regarding what people think of his views loud and clear via various sources. So much so that he has issued statements regarding it numerous times. An ignored email will do nothing. I have written to owners of large corporations in the past (not Chick Fil A) with no reply. I understand views such as these are difficult to change, not everyone can have an epiphany moment like Drew Brees did just a few weeks ago. So the alternative option that I am hoping for is an eventual resignation. Until then, I will do what I feel is right, which is to make sure my family does not contribute a single dollar to that man's wealth. I am curious as to why people are so concerned about a simple boycott.

  42. Know you asked cappy but since I don’t go there either I will respond too. I don’t know if stopping donations to anti gay organizations is a change of heart or trying to put a better “face” to the company (CYA). As far as others boycotting that is their business and not mine. I never asked for a “change” in the company. I see it as not putting money in the pocket of someone who is against my friends. If and when someone reports that the owner has had a change of heart I will reconsider. Its not a business level thing with me it’s human being level. If you speak out against my friends you don't get my #### money.... period
