  1. I work in clinical trials and in fact on COVID-19. I cannot speak on behalf of my company so this is my educated belief: I believe it is almost certain we will have several effective, approved and ready vaccines by January, as well as dozens of drugs that will effectively treat at least some of the most serious symptoms. It is almost unthinkable to believe that no country in the world will have a successful vaccine at this point, because the entire scientific community is working together with powerful computer models that are essentially running trials on computers before they even make it to

  5. In the U.S. today, newly reported cases (33,000), deaths (775), and the positivity rate (6.4%) were all higher today compared to yesterday -- but that's normal for Tuesdays vs. Mondays -- and compared to last Tuesday. Deaths would be flat week over week if not for some delayed reporting today out of Delaware, but the positivity rate was at its highest point in more than a month: the implication of that is that the increase in cases is not just a function of more testing. However, in his Congressional testimony today, Dr. Fauci had some encouraging words: "We feel cautiously optimisti

  8. My son-in-law is an oncologist - they are now seeing an uptick in more serious / later stage cancers because for several months people were afraid to go to their Dr / ER when they first noticed a lump or other symptom / sign. And I think this is a wave that will get bigger before it gets smaller.

  16. I hate to disagree but there are multiple configurations for the Waffle House hash browns. There have been songs written about them. ( Not good ones but still.) Here's just one article from the AJC that have been written about the experience. (My Dad did prefer his grits as a dessert with sugar.) https://www.ajc.com/entertainment/dining/your-guide-waffle-house-hash-browns/u6FvGwLoPboYIaz6hFukGP/

  24. First, all five of the American government sponsored clinical trials are approved to manufacture at full capacity before final approval in the event that one or all get approved. This ensures that there are millions of doses ready the moment it is approved. Second, there will be successful vaccines of all different types tested and approved in the Uk, China, Japan and Israel. Finally, you don’t need 100% of the population immune to effectively stop the community spread of a virus. Ive read that 30% is the key threshold. We already have over a million Americans immune. 27. I’m sure this must sound strange, but before finals in 1979, we were fed a Thanksgiving meal. Turkey, stuffing and trimmings, after eating nothing but marginal nutrition, at best, for weeks. So I marched finals in a tryptophan coma. I am still pretty sure I had a good run, but I wonder if we could have scored higher on a carb loaded meal.

  28. BD's worst meal in 84 was beef stroganoff. Not many of us ate it...so after the Pt. Huron rainout show, when we were stuck at the Canadian border with Garfield, Freelancers, and 27th, we gave it to Garfield....and we sat on our busses in slack-jawed amazement watching them pound it down like there was no tomorrow. Even today, alums of 84 Cadets tell me that was their BEST meal all year!
