  1. Few years ago a publisher came out with a magazine with the registry contents for a few county area. All homes got a free one and then subscription after that. Out of a few hundred on the registry we knew 4 of them. Split between people who used to work in my building and 2 distant relatives (one was off his meds and supposedly said something nasty to a girl, dude is scary looking and didn’t remember. So go on list or go to trial... Other distant relative is back in prison and never denied guilt). Point is we were amazed by number of people on the list. And the one guy from my building who was always very professional was listed as violent and mug shot looked like they pulled him from the gutter. He’s my example of you can’t tell from appearances.

  2. Yup. We disagree, for sure. The old trope, as you say, was mostly because the corps with old G horns, a la Pioneer, had horns held together with tape and hope. Fiedler and amps? Once he heard the improvement in pit sound, he realized they needed them too, is my thought. Edit: None of the items you mentioned have anything to do with Varsity. That is a false equivalency.

  3. Fellow posters, I know nothing about Varsity other than what is being discussed here. I am neutral on this news. Question - is the release of SoundSport to Varsity actually seen by DCI as a necessity if DCI is to successfully manage its way back? From what I’ve seen of SoundSport on FLO and other places, the number of participating groups is not very large. How much DCI time and effort is expended there? Maybe, too much. I’ve always believed, due to losing a season, DCI (the organization) needs to come back “leaner” than before. Or, cast off certain operations and responsibilities. Meaning, fewer events of all types.

  6. Please keep Jerry Noonan, former soprano soloist of Northstar Drum & Bugle Corps in your thoughts. Jerry is in a serious battle with cancer and could use your prayers. Jerry is recognized as one of the top soloists of all time, and was a brass instructor with Northstar and the Boston Crusaders, among others, and is well respected throughout the drum corps community. One of the good guys.
