For years, Macy’s was always about promoting tv shows to be shown on whatever network is telecasting the parade. I’m used to that, and understand it.
IF, this Covid version of the parade event starts politicizing to me, or virtual signaling, etc., I’ll turn it off. I guess, since it’s NBC, I won’t be watching very long. ☹️
So -- This year, Macy's Parade will be an unabashed shill for Broadway and other celebrities? Do I have that right? If so, I think I'll pass
(Sorry! It's BC -- before coffee.)
I don't really see how that could work in this era. If the term "regional" really means "local", so that housing is not an issue...then potential members in vast areas of the country would have zero access to march DCI, and there would be few competitions for those that will exist. The infrastructure of 1971 is just not there for 2021.
If "regional" is truly regional, where members still come from distances that require housing, and transportation is still a requirement, then all of the needs remain, plus still fewer performance opportunities within the region. How many regions would the country be broken into?
Would many potential members want to "march local", if they already get that with their marching bands in the fall?
Never heard of them until today. Downloaded their Favorite DCI Color Guard show but......5 minutes was about all I could take. The "A.F." in their name should have been a clue to me.
I enjoy the speculative banter. It's the certitude that's disturbing.
As if our activity has done everything right over 75 years and can't learn from others or even benefit from a partnership with others who have succeeded. The institutional arrogance sometimes evident from the leaders of some of our corps also seems to pervade the minds of some of its most ardent fans.
Evidence the notion promoted in this, and I'd guess other, podcasts that "...your voice is JUST AS IMPORTANT...!". Uh, no kiddos it's not.

I'll ask this as I have before, regional, especially today is not a bad idea BUT if corps could draw within their own regions would corps have had to scan the entire country just to get members. Where are these kids coming from, what local groups will go back to the old days and support the activity. Merely saying go back will never work IMO. There has to be some real creativity in so many areas to even slightly consider this.
correction: will ONLY be an unabashed shill except for balloons driving by beep beep... Wonder how many Broadway shows will have something as theatres are dark (guess they still are).
stopped watching NBCs version years back. It’s one thing to shill as the float with a celebrity rolls by but stopping so you can see the bad lip syncing....🤮
I hope some version of the presentation mentioned in this announcement will be eventually made available to us civilians who aren't able to participate in the PASIC convention. Maybe posted online somewhere? It sounds like an amazing show!

Mods, question please: Is it appropriate to discuss commentary from the DrumcorpsAF podcast? Not cut and paste, just discuss the commentary of the presenter.
