  1. Any corps that is charging kids for audition packs and camp fees should be ashamed of themselves . There is no way in heck the 2021 season is going to unfold and they know it .

  4. I would say fees are fine with a very serious stipulation that if there is not a 2021 season, the entire fee is refunded. No questions, no promises to apply it to 2022, full refund, end of story. However, with rising debts, and some corps’ reputation of “robbing Peter to lay Paul,” can every corps honor such a policy?

  5. I wonder how successful the recruitment process will be, considering their staff collectively is an open class staff, and they are in about the performance range as top open class corps/lower tier world class corps, and the cost is about $750-1000 more than most corps in their echelon. It’s quite sad, as it will not help them. The board and admin, with its nepotism due to CK’s rubber stamp has literally killed the organization, and we’re watching it bleed out.

  6. If it is up to revenues generated from audition packets to ensure a Corps financial survival then that Corps has no business going on tour.

  7. Understood. But what’s the alternative? Another year without member fee income could be the death knoll to DCI and many of the member corps.

  8. Cadets just made a statement in their solute to the 2020 corps. https://www.facebook.com/cadets.org/videos/3556363001090975/ Denise Bonfiglio speaks at 01:18:35 addressing the question.

  9. I am seeing auditions beginning for 2021. What that means for mm’s from 2020, I can’t say. My guess is some kids who would have marched in 2020, that were being allowed to extend through 2021, have decided to step away. What becomes of 2021 is anyone’s guess at this point, so we’ll have to see what the “bridge” year is.

  12. Comparisons to the pandemic after World War I and our current situation are only helpful to a point. For one thing we are talking about two different viruses. We also know more about how viruses spread and sanitation is better today. In some ways the earlier pandemic can teach us how to best respond to Covid 19, but using it to predict what will happen today may not be accurate.

  13. First off, no one knows what DCI may be doing "behind the scenes". That being said, right now there really isn't a whole lot DCI can do for 2021. There way too many unknowns. 1.What corps will survive and be able to compete in 2021 ? 2.For those corps that do survive, what will be the "touring model" ? 3.What rules will corps that do survive have to follow for things like hygiene, Social Distancing, including on busses etc. ? 4.Will any school house a corps, or, for that matter, even allow them to use outdoor facilities for practice ? 5.What venues will even be available for shows ? For those that are, how many fans will be allowed ? WGI cancelling just threw another monkey wrench into 2021. I think we're months away from any indication from DCI of what may happen in 2021. Plus, if 2020 is any indication, any plans are subject to change in a heartbeat.

  16. Ah, yes, Gaelic Park: Van Cortlandt Park stop on the IRT Broadway Line. I lived in a 4th-floor apartment a block and a half away when I attended Manhattan College. It had an unobstructed view of the field, and I recall watching the Troopers and a few others from that window "GE Box".

  18. Randall's Island, the OLD stadium, not Icahn. It was accessible by taking the Subway to Harlem and either hopping a city bus or just walking across the bridge. There must have been a hundred shows there from the '50s through the '70s. My last visit was in '76. for VFW Nationals. Garfield won prelims by 3 points or so, but the Cavies took finals by a couple of tenths. I took the "A Train" home that night.

  20. I know this is a new topic and there have only been 6 replies but I'm still astonished that no one has mentioned Roosevelt Stadium!! Fond memories of the dust and the heat but mainly the crowds, the nuns and getting a beer when I was only 16....lol Sadly now its a condominium complex🥺
