  1. This is the first time I have been on DCP in 2020. After seeing his passing on social media, the only reason I came here was to pay respect to a legend in the activity. Rest easy, Mike.

  2. In the field of Drum Corps, Michael Boo was the very definition of "Renaissance Man".

  3. This is heartbreaking. Since day one as a fan, he’s a name I have associated with BOA, DCI, WGI, etc. So many great stories told by him over the years. He’ll be greatly missed. Rest In Peace

  4. I just saw this news on Facebook. Such a huge loss. His knowledge of drum corps was unrivaled and his willingness and ability to share it like no other. The past few months have been difficult for him with all that happened with the cancellation of the season and later his diagnosis, but judging from his FB posts a few months back, he knew he faced an uphill battle but also knew had the love, prayers, and support of so many from people who marched with him in Cavies to casual acquaintances. My conversations with him in Indy, which were always too brief since everyone knew him and wanted to at least say hello, were a highlight of finals. I’m not sure we’ll see the likes of him again.

  5. This is the way I look at it. Corps X is on tour. They are required to regularly test their members and staff. One person tests positive. What does Corps X have to do? I'm guessing quarantine the entire touring organization for two weeks. That doesn't mean 180 people in one room somewhere. It means small groups of no more than 10, isolated from each other. Where will they do that? Not at some random school Maybe at a hotel, if the hotel agrees, and they might given the horrendous occupancy rates they are fighting, but the cost would be tremendous. The corps can't pack everyone onto buses for a two day drive "home", whereupon they let everyone drift to the wind. This scenario is why there will be no tour this summer. My opinion, of course.

  6. That humor. That connoisseur of all things pageantry. The smile and friendship. The wisdom and snark. I first met Mike as he performed his hysterical rendition of Karnac (renamed Boo-nac) at a Drum Corps World party. 26 years later, through decades of working side-by-side for DCI, we chatted and mourned the loss of the season over the phone this past summer. And now I mourn your passing. You were one-of-a-kind, Mike. And we all loved you for it. You will be missed: your expansive knowledge, quirky humor, and, of course the dedicated passion.

  7. So sad! I’ll miss him greatly - he was such a great evangelist for all aspects of this activity, and an all around great guy. RIP Michael. Mike

  8. I know it has been a bit since I posted (I haven't felt myself for months due to the lack of DCI and I have been busy because of work and school)... but I had to take a break to say... Splooie and RIP. A true DCI legend has passed away.

  9. Such a shame. He was an icon in the marching arts activity. We never met, but we had a lot of very great conversations online. We shared more than our first names; we had similar viewpoints of view on many things.

  10. Then why are schools are going virtual again if it’s not spreading?

  12. Younger folks may not realize it, but female color guard captains in the late 60’s and 70’s were unintended statements of women’s equality. Prior to that time color guards were all male and it was unheard of to have a female in charge. If you watch some of the old-school drum corps of the time notice these ladies. They were confident and had the attitude of “anything a man can do we can do too” and they did. I didn’t realize it at the time, but they were trend-setters and I’m proud of these ladies. Sorry for the rando post but my second Manhattan is “100% effective”.
