  1. Michael would post on here all the time. Always positive. So often hilarious. He had such a wit. I did not know what he was going through up until yesterday. I have just read his Facebook postings and he seemed at peace with what he was going through. That made reading them so much harder. I remember his dedication to his brother, sometimes mentioned on here. Let's be kind to one another. We don't know what everyone else is going through.

  4. Michael Boo was a tireless promoter of the activity, always enthusiastic in his writing for DCI's program notes, liner notes for audio recordings, and the DCI website, including, of course, the famous recap analyses. He was a valued participant in these forums and his self-deprecating humor was always a joy. Memory eternal.

  5. That humor. That connoisseur of all things pageantry. The smile and friendship. The wisdom and snark. I first met Mike as he performed his hysterical rendition of Karnac (renamed Boo-nac) at a Drum Corps World party. 26 years later, through decades of working side-by-side for DCI, we chatted and mourned the loss of the season over the phone this past summer. And now I mourn your passing. You were one-of-a-kind, Mike. And we all loved you for it. You will be missed: your expansive knowledge, quirky humor, and, of course the dedicated passion.

  6. DCP has missed so many members lately. Mike's passing has brought many back in dedication to his contribution to the activity. Skevinp referenced early DCP in a prior post to another new member. He was right in many ways. I see many long lost contributors who gave tribute to MB.

  7. Thought about Mikes brother too and wondering his status. Have friend whose sister is like the female “Rain Man” with memorizing birthdays and sending cards but can’t take care of herself. Sister lived at family home but in middle of Covid mom and sis had to go into different assisted living locations. You never know what extra people may be dealing with.

  8. In the field of Drum Corps, Michael Boo was the very definition of "Renaissance Man".

  9. Step into the Wayback Machine and dial in August 9, 1964, Roosevelt Stadium, Jersey City, the Dream Contest, the annual fundraiser for the Diocese of Newark, the most prestigious show on the East coast. St. Kevin's Emerald Knights of Dorchester, MA have just hit the concert formation. The drum major steps to the side to make way for the guard captain who will now conduct "South Rampart Street Parade". We all looked on in disbelief. A "guard person" conducting? A "girl" guard person? At a time when the FM 22-5 field manual protocols were strictly observed and judging standards were driven by military procedures, she strolled confidently to the center, brought up the horns, ...and brought down the house with her energetic conducting and (dare I say it?), choreographic approach. No one had ever seen anything like this. She was spectacular. Nuns gasped and hid their eyes. The priests and brothers stared. The rest of the audience went berserk, and when the dust settled that hot afternoon, St. Kevin's became the first non-Jersey corps to ever win the Dream title. Her name was Barbara Bergdoll, her brother the French Horn star, her father the brass instructor. Not a living soul in that stadium on that day will ever forget her. Here's an article with a photo of Barbara from an earlier contest that season: https://historical-drum-corps-publications.blogspot.com/2007_03_09_archive.html
