It’s just a matter of time before your multiple accounts start arguing with each other.5 points

Do you understand what a discussion is? Do you understand that not everyone is going to share your opinion? Do you realize that if you present misinformation, people will be inclined to correct you? Can you handle that? Drum Corps IS an elite activity. The costs of the summer tour make it so that mostly only kids coming from well-off families can afford to tour for an entire summer instead of working a job. In a discussion, if you present an argument and someone disagrees, they will refute it and explain why. If you feel like someone presenting the facts to you is considered “putting those ideas down,” I am not sure if this is the right place for you to productively discuss these ideas. An echo chamber of like-minded young individuals such as the drum corps Reddit may be better suited for your purposes.5 points

I'm going to stop. Up until this point I have given you the benefit of the doubt that you may not have been exposed to the reality of social media or this forum. I suspect you are someone who was banned previously who has come back to cause trouble.4 points

I hope they agree #$#@ happens and it's time to grow up. I know it's a crappy situation but at the end of the day it's just marching band and this is a pandemic.3 points

the refusal to reply to well thought out reasoned commentary shows a true troll approach. Ahhhh youth3 points

Do you actually think those in charge have not tried things over the years to push forward the activity. Do you not think those in charge have exhausted ways ? Independent guards and drum lines even have the worst time just getting a facility for any kind of rehearsal .3 points

I know you want the short season to occur. Good for you. Your seem quite determined. I want to win a million dollars. Every week I hope for the million dollars. I also want the dream car I've been looking at for years. Every week I want that dream car3 points

Sister had a college roommate who talked to herself. That’s was bad enough until she started arguing with herself... at 3am. 😬 Sent a PM to o’Neals to answer a question and got a nice response. Feel it’s legit and at worse youth and frustration showing...2 points

performers since day 1 have felt that way. it's your turn to feel it now, just the circle of life so to speak in drum corps life. and when your possible day comes that you're in a position of authority in the activity, kids will feel the same way about you. now in terms of marketing i will not disagree DCI hasn't been at the forefront of relevant, tho it has gotten a little better. But you, like I did at your age, also don't get just how niche of an activity drum corps is.2 points

I got a similar vibe from their posting history. They just sort of showed up and jumped right in. I’m questioning whether they are indeed a female of marching age. Another red flag for me is their lack of critical thinking skills that drum corps teaches and/or looks for in potential members.2 points

actually it is very much the same...it's hoping for something you really want. and topics get closed often because go report happy when someone posts something they don't like, or someone refuses to listen to discussion and keeps posting the same thing over and over again. how DCP operates and how tour logistics and liability works have something in common....you're not really up to speed on either. and thats ok, at your age i wouldnt have understood either myself2 points

I really wish DCI would operate it's business based on DCP polls.2 points

i feel bad for the age outs for last year and possibly this year....but somewhere the line has to be drawn. do we really want to get to be like World class guards in WGI with 30 year olds out there? Because with DCI, once they uncap the bottle, it just keeps getting opened again and again and again1 point

COVID 19 is no reason to raise the age limit. DCI has a bad habit of never changing rules once approved.1 point

I’m not sure a fried chicken franchise really has the proper facilities.1 point

I'm with you on raising the age limit due to COVID but Drum Corps should be for everyone, not just those seeking an advanced degree. My 2022 Rule Proposal: Burn all props 😀1 point

the voted to consider yet again. pretty much a 50/50 split1 point

that's the key part of "moderator". always shades of grey in life, be it DCP or figuring out if a tour is feasible.1 point

My home church in Indiana was approached by a WGI independent guard for rehearsal space in their gym prior to finals in Dayton. They were desperate for a rehearsal space for finals and looking a full 2 hour and some change drive out from Dayton at that point. The paperwork was done but ultimately, they had to go somewhere else after a day there. The gym at the church doesn't have a traditional hardwood floor but this sort of plasticized snapped together tiles thing. It works fine for basketball but not so great with rifle drops. Even with a protective surface down and tarps, they were finding cracked tiles when they pulled up the mats for the night. I think I remember dad saying they had to replace 16 cracked tiles (each tile I think is 12" x 12" so there's a ton of them to make the floor). I was like, they practiced for a whole day and only cracked 16 from drops? That's a good group. They were entirely apologetic and gracious and covered the cost for the replacement tiles. It was easily done under coverage from the installer the next day and not a terribly high cost. And it was sort of a disappointment because, other than the floor, the gym was about perfect for a WGI unit to use as it has two bathrooms with two shower heads in each as part of a set up for hosting a homeless shelter that travels from site to site very two weeks. Also the full service kitchen is right there with plenty of tables and chairs that can set up. The church has members and staff that are alum and/or have kids in Indiana's marching arts circuits so there was a fair bit of excitement and openness to it because it fell in a time slot where the gym wasn't being used for the basketball outreach league. I think they had some interest from WGI percussions groups too but their schedules were smack in the middle of the basketball league time. But even there, you're looking at an outfit that is seeking housing 2+ hours out from the venue they'd need to travel to and from for competition runs. If that's the 'pre-COVID' scene for even smaller more manageable groups, I totally get the difficulties of full corps finding sites.1 point

Not saying a church, or parochial school, would willingly house a Drum Corps today as they did 40 years ago. We can thank our hyper-litigious society for that. I’m saying it’s dumb to not even consider asking because they’re not “secular” As if there'd be forced Bible-study after sectionals or something.1 point

Given all the difficulties with housing in Drum Corps, you'd turn down a church or parochial school gym? Do you know how many Drum Corps started from a church? Know what "CYO" stands for?1 point

When drum corps touring returns (i.e. 2022), we will need all the housing sites we can get. By all means, if a church along the tour path has the full gymnasium/locker room facilities to house a corps, and the six football fields/several with power feeds/one with elevated press box or whatever they require now, and they (and their neighborhood) are willing to have us there drumming away ceaselessly from dawn to whenever the local noise curfew is, and the dates and rates are practical... sign us up.1 point

You have a huge misconception on drum corps today. Maybe you were listening to someone who spoke about drum corps from the 50s and 60s..That kind of community support stopped decades ago1 point

These groups are not flush with cash. I hope that as a result of this experience "rainy day" funds are increased for the next "inevitable." Has DCI sent a questionnaire to it's fan base to ask what their attitudes are to any proposals for a shortened 2021 season and their willingness to participate in it? For me, that would be a critical requirement as to whether any proposal moves forward.1 point

Had the wonderful opportunity to talk with michael at Open class in Michigan city 2018, my 30th and final year on tour. He did an interview with me as I fixed his Concert Euphonium. When we were done he asked how much I said nothing , talking with you with your wealth of knowledge was more than enough. He did by the way go across the street to DQ and brought back Cones for both of us. What a wonderful person RIP Mr.Boo RIP1 point

I WAS THE HORN INSTRUCTOR FOR CAVALIERS IN THE 70'S WHEN MIKE JOINED. At the time, the corps consisted of mostly the remains of the early 70's and late 60's hard-### diehard members of the "green machine" IMEE- IRON MEN OF an EARLIER ERA. Mike boo was such a difference to us that we embraced him as an intelligent, humorist, drum corps geek that the members were not familiar with on his level of integration into the corps. His individualism was accepted unanimously in both the horn and drum lines even though he seemed such a square peg in a round hole. Any confrontation would often result in a humorous and logical explanation that often left members encouraged, smarter and amused at the same time. Since then ,I had only seen and talked to him a few times, but it was always a great experience. even though I haven't been involved in DCI or DCA for some time now, he will always be one of the people I will always remember as a friend.1 point

He was the arranger for winds at the HS I attended, as well as the first arranger I used when I began teaching band. He was a great friend, advocate, and just an all around great person to know. He will be missed.1 point

WGI has little impact on DCI in my opinion.1 point

I don't think that fall marching band and spring WGI will have much impact on the decision of a 2021 DCI season. I DO think that if there is not a massively available working vaccine by the end of January, then the 2021 DCI season could be doomed. I don't see any way WGI happens, as even if they delayed the start of their season, the groups would have zero time to organize and prepare, even if groups repeated their 2020 shows. In DCI, you have many members who said that they would return for 2021, and in some cases had a completed or nearly completed musical show....they do not have to start over........also, most corps learn most or all of their drill from May to early June. and if there is no WGI, guard members would actually have MORE time to devote to corps in many cases. I think DCI will need to make a decision by mid-March at the very latest, and that's pushing it. Hopefully, a vaccine is in place in January, and they can make a "happy" announcement at the beginning of February. I do think that a 2021 season might be shortened, with more regional shows/touring, and that's not necessarily a bad thing.....they could take out June and still get over 30 shows in per corps if they wish...............1 point
