  1. Agreed, I hate what's happening to current age outs, but I think we have to go back to original rules and cap at 21. I would also like to see the elimination of all props for a minimum of 2-3 years while corps get themselves back on their feet financially, and the limitation of electronics for the same period. All cost cutting measures to try and keep costs down.

  2. I hope they agree #$#@ happens and it's time to grow up. I know it's a crappy situation but at the end of the day it's just marching band and this is a pandemic.

  3. i feel bad for the age outs for last year and possibly this year....but somewhere the line has to be drawn. do we really want to get to be like World class guards in WGI with 30 year olds out there? Because with DCI, once they uncap the bottle, it just keeps getting opened again and again and again

  4. Point out in his where he said you did. I suspect he was referring to the below post and the pile-on of personal comments, including yours, that accompanied it. We sometimes lament how few of us still post here. We should perhaps consider how we treat newcomers and infrequent visitors when we ponder why that is.

  5. Given that DCI will likely announce the cancellation of 2021, let's start a conversation about some issues we would like DCI to implement for the 2022 season. I would like to see the age limit raised to 23. Two reasons: It would allow those members who were denied the opportunity to march in 2020 and 2021 to march another season or two, if desired. Secondly, raising the age to 23 would allow members who are in college getting Masters degrees or PhD's to continue spending their summers doing drum corp. I would suggest making it a requirement that only full time college students be offered this opportunity.

  6. A conversation does have to be both ways. One can't complain that they got shut down when in fact they may be doing the same especially with those who might have a little insight. I do agree young people are the future of the activity. It's always been like that and there are plenty , even here who engage in reasonable dialog and amazingly far beyond their years. We have also seen those far along in years with little insight . Age IMO has no barrier, the good and bad of that...lol You are right we can not run off young people IF in fact that's what they are, not those who have been banned. I have had a few PMs who for sure believe this. Funny with a few posts it's kinda easy to see several similar and recognizable attributes . Coincidence , maybe With all that said, I do think there have been many who gave much respect and of course like always there is always the opposite. I think respect being a 2 way street is an old saying worth repeating.

  8. DCA has a purpose. but how it's been run has made getting that message out is the biggest issue. you can see the corps that do it right, and those that don't. the organization is not nearly as structured business wise like DCI is.

  9. I’m a graduate student and I’m 57 years old. Really looking forward to an extra year or two of DCI eligibility. Have a call into the Blue Devils regarding whether muskets are allowed in the rifle line.

  10. I do not think these kind of guideline-flouting personal comments are appropriate. Being new to the forum does not automatically make you a troll. Being female does not automatically make you a troll. Being of marching age does not automatically make you a troll. Being optimistic does not automatically make you a troll. Being temporarily mistaken does not automatically make you a troll. Take it from me, a recovering optimist. I am now convinced that a 2021 season will not be possible. But I just arrived at that conclusion after spending some time defending pursuit of the optimistic scenario. I was not trolling - I honestly believed there was a possibility of things working out to make 2021 possible and practical, if a lot of prerequisites fell into place at an aggressive pace. But as things developed, milestones did not occur soon enough and more focused projections indicate that pandemic recovery will not come in time. Consider that the grapevine tells us that half of DCI voting directors have not yet arrived at that conclusion. That is of far greater concern to me than whether DCP attains full unanimity instead of the x-1 consensus currently prevailing.

  13. How is my opinion an attack? There are many I march with that believe a elitist attitude exist within drum corps. That is their opinion and I share it. Many things before covid-19 could have been done to promote the corps but in many ways it is driven by outdated past model of success. Proven here when someone has different opinion and overwhelmingly there are posts to put those ideas down. Liabilities are something that can be overcome with negotiation and discussion. Instead of even trying everyone downplay the suggestions. Then get angry and start to make accusations.

  14. So many times many here have said that covid-19 times have changed. That does not mean that drum corps can't change to meet these new times we live in. Nothing is stopping corps from going outside the normal routes for housing, money, food. Every good business model I study has something in common, the business did not settle to do same practice over and over to become successful. They change. My brother in law was not alive then so the answer is no.

  15. I'm going to stop. Up until this point I have given you the benefit of the doubt that you may not have been exposed to the reality of social media or this forum. I suspect you are someone who was banned previously who has come back to cause trouble.

  16. If you use a Private School Gym you are no longer neutral? I'm not certain but a few drum corps roots are tied to churches in some way. No matter what good idea or good news that comes up there are peeps who will poke holes in it and take it into a negative depressing directions.

  17. Thanksgiving traveling has begun and our family are slowly making our way to grandmas for this upcoming Thanksgiving Holiday. So our usual life discussions began. Drum Corps came up and I was talking to my brother in law from Arizona yesterday evening. He had covid-19 a few months back is doing fine. Well he brought up something I had not thought about and I think it is a good idea. Housing keeps coming up here as a problem so why not use Church's? Church's are more than likely going to help out. More than public schools the church run private schools tend to be open. The other topic we discussed was there is not a need to have a long tour to have a season. They could have a limited amount of shows ending in Indianapolis. The vaccine gets us one step closer every day. The future is brighter today than it was yesterday when it comes to the possibilities of marching in 2021.

  18. That humor. That connoisseur of all things pageantry. The smile and friendship. The wisdom and snark. I first met Mike as he performed his hysterical rendition of Karnac (renamed Boo-nac) at a Drum Corps World party. 26 years later, through decades of working side-by-side for DCI, we chatted and mourned the loss of the season over the phone this past summer. And now I mourn your passing. You were one-of-a-kind, Mike. And we all loved you for it. You will be missed: your expansive knowledge, quirky humor, and, of course the dedicated passion.

  19. alumni corps is going to be harder. the alumni of old are....getting older. there's not as many corps as 10 years ago. in most cases when you look at alumni corps, the membership isn't getting younger, and the older style shows are not drawing interest. all of the "name" corps see more benefit doing one time super corps, like SCV or Madison or Cavies have done, or Bloo is planning. Mini corps need to break off on their own. DCA will never give them full priority, because they'd have to become members, and they'd siphon money away from the field corps. the key for mini is to prove they can draw a paying audience, as they've yet to do that

  20. I'm with you on raising the age limit due to COVID but Drum Corps should be for everyone, not just those seeking an advanced degree. My 2022 Rule Proposal: Burn all props 😀
