  1. I could care less if they are judged. It might be fun to allow an "all-out" format. Just entertain me while keeping a high standard, quality product. Give me a little 'distorted edge' on that low brass. #Loud&Proud #Park&Bark #MarchOn

  2. When a police report is released under an open records request, names of witnesses are generally redacted, omitted or at least abbreviated with initials in the released report. As soon as I saw hearsay statements and recollections of 3rd party "witnesses" in the MAASIN report with no redaction... it raised some concerns. If all of those people were contacted and agreed to have their name published by MAASIN, that's great. Otherwise, actions can have reactions/consequences regardless of how good the intentions are.

  3. Was your use of the word revenant intentional or an autocorrect of relevant? If intentional, bravo! Revenant - a person who has returned, especially supposedly from the dead.

  6. Interesting subject. Incitement The First Amendment to the United States Constitution guarantees free speech, and the degree to which incitement is protected speech is determined by the imminent lawless action test introduced by the 1969 Supreme Court decision in the case Brandenburg v. Ohio. The court ruled that incitement of events in the indefinite future was protected, but encouragement of "imminent" illegal acts was not protected. This "view reflects longstanding law and is shared by the Federalist Society, the American Civil Liberties Union, the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education, and the vast majority of Americans, including most staunch free-speech advocates."[23] Incitement to riot is illegal under U.S. federal law.[24]

  7. IMHO the only place for any facial tattoos is called 'life without the possibility of parole'. But that's just me.

  8. Himself, obviously. Anyone making demands for silencing particular speech has already taken it upon themselves to define which speech would be banned.

  9. MAASIN is trying to position itself as the independent investigative watchdog group for all of the marching arts. I've seen several comparisons on social media to them being the "SafeSport" for the marching arts. The challenge is... they really don't have the authority to position themselves in that role. SafeSport was granted their status and authority through federal law/congressional action (Protecting Young Victims from Sexual Abuse and Safe Sport Authorization Act of 2017). MAASIN lacks that same status and authority to take on that role. So while it could be beneficial from an initial PR side of things for a corps/organization to cooperate with MAASIN, the release of any type of confidential/sensitive information to MAASIN could potentially put the organization in a bad spot from a legal standpoint.

  11. Wow, great catch! Autocorrect I guess. I corrected it but "revenant" would also be appropriate. Note: When you correct a post it does not correct the post used in a "quote". That's one nice feature of FB. (Could be the only nice feature.)

  13. Think it’s appropriate that they cast Henry Gibson as the leader. Anyone who remembers Laugh In knows him as the short guy carrying a big flower and spouting off the wall poetry. IOW about the most harmless guy you ever saw. Like I keep saying.. you never know... 😬

  15. Just wanted to point out 7/1-7/3 is anniversary of the battle and since the re-enactment was cancelled due to Covid (sorry ironlips) there wasn’t a crowd. Irony is the people I’ve seen most upset with use of the CSA flag as a racial symbol is the re-enactors. One quote from a Georgian was “I’d like to rip it out of their hands and take it back”.

  16. That is not my intent. As far as I understand, "illegal" means that is not your right. Well, we were discussing speech. I have no experience with telepathy.

  17. A good point. Except in unusual situations, individual liberty puts the trust in the individual that they won't do something stupid. Each & every one of us is one swing away from being an axe-murderer. But that doesn't mean they should preemptively lock us up (or outlaw axes).

  18. From MAASIN point of view, I think it is in part 1st Amendment / free speech issue. Are they open to legal action? - Yes, probably. But if it goes full-blown court action they are allowed to call witnesses in their defense, which would likely include the former members of Troopers who penned the complaints. And the Courts would decide the case. It is (very highly) unlikely it would ever go to litigation, as that costs beaucoup $$ to both sides for lawyers & related requests (pro bono only goes so far).

  19. I will say some of the best info gathered by the FBI, DHS, CIA, etc, is retrieved from social media & the dark web. When my wife & I saw that t-shirt, we were just in shock.

  20. NAMED certain individuals... certainly hoped they asked permission first.... 🤯 Hell Troopers should have talked to us. Sounds like your business law classes and my annual protecting personal data classes would have helped.

  22. You raise a good point. My concern is that the speech becomes normalized. You, myself and others on this forum can be shocked by what we are hearing, but at the same time there are those who suddenly latch onto it.

  23. Yes they are an independent third party. I’d be an independent third party too. But what right would I have to tell Troopers that they should tell me what is going on with investigations within the corps? Is MAASIN working with DCI (as an independent) for this or is MAASIN doing this all on their own? Does MAASIN have people knowledgeable enough to deal with the issues? Too many years of working with and getting training on protecting personal and privileged information. If MAASIN doesn’t have a legal right to the info then Troopers would be doing the proper thing by ignoring the request or tell MAASIN to pound sand. Bottom line MAASIN is saying Troopers are hiding info from MAASIN. If MAASIN doesn’t have a right or need to know then Troopers are protecting the info. To put it another way how does this sound? “I’ve made myself the watchdog for problems in DCI corps. Send me all your information on any assault, harassment or other nasty things going on within your corps. And you’d better do it or I’ll bash you on the internet for not complying”.

  26. So MAASIN is not part of the DCI reporting policy. Then why did they try to get involved by contacting Troopers and requesting information? Very private information that should not be shared with non-involved third parties.

  28. Unfortunately, racism is still an issue in the drum corps activity. The Bluecoats are willing to address that fact openly and set corps policy to specifically address the issue within their organization. While you may not feel this is necessary, current events have shown otherwise, as well as the experiences of drum corps members. It is those members, past, current, and future, who may appreciate a World Class drum corps working to ensure the activity is welcoming to them, starting with their own organization. Back in June, the Bluecoats Brass Podcast posted an episode entitled “The Black Experience in DCI”, interviewing members and staff who have directly experienced racism in the activity. You can listen to the episode here. The Dear Dotbook podcast has also looked at racism in the activity in a few of its episodes: Black Women in the Marching Arts Black Men in Drum Corps Science, Ethnicity, Gender, and Band Sikhism and the Marching Arts

  29. Most of the people I've spoken to who question the need for racism policies, have never experienced racism.

  30. Given that racism seems to be running rampant all over this country, it shouldn't be a surprise that they're fortifying the idea that it's not going to be tolerated.

  31. And back to the world of "trying to stay relevant*" & "it's a great time to be alive", Hop has weighed in with his opinion on the latest statement from the Troopers BOD on his FB page. He seems to be in support with his comments. Seems like he would want to "fly under the radar" with such topics... 😳🙄😬 *Revenant is also acceptable in this sentence.

  32. Wish I could say I was surprised. Last 7/4 someone put out a false claim there was to be a mass flag burning in Gettysburg. Lot of people with big guns and tattoos showed up in opposition. Bunch of the tattoos were swastikas (including one on the side of a head). I don’t get it unless just there to make trouble.
