  1. Can't understand the vitriol one here..Clearly, older people , regardless of political affiliation, belief system or cultural mores, are in the higher risk category for #### near everything ..That caution and prudence be looked at from perspectives ignoring these facts is troubling..Having had covid, I know I don't want it again, so if your locale is covid free congrats!..and if your age reduces your risk factors, again congrats!..I understand the desire to return to normal..Question is: What will the NEW normal be for EVERYBODY including drum corps enthusiasts?

  5. I call it kabuki theater. We’re down to 2.8% positivity rate and it’s lower every day in Illinois. We have all the variants here and they’re having no impact. It will be a year March 16th since we were locked down in Illinois. The problem with quarantines is that no one knows how to end them.

  7. *Raises hand* Shingles is the worst!! That is one vaccine all people of a certain age should get. Horrible, horrible unimaginable pain and it can blind a person if contracted in the eye.

  9. And, the stats on who is likely or not to get it means nothing when you're the one affected or a friend or loved one. Recovery from this is another thing, although as I said the 80 year old recovered ( pretty much ) yet the 40 year old not so much, and permanent damage. No one knows what long term may be many years down the road with all this.

  10. I call it a crap shoot. Know of friends of friends in their 70s who felt like 48 hour bug. Then 20 year old nephew looking at long term monitoring to see if his lungs are permanently impaired. He’s at college and one of his roomies friends stopped by and both nephew and roomie got nasty cases. Just no way to make sense of how people are affected which makes it worse

  12. I hear ya Jim..I have been outside a covid unit 4 times with a person entering a hosp. waiting on results and have had some relatives with Covid. Oddly the oldest being 80 who recovered but still has no smell or taste BUT the youngest being 40 was in an ICU for 3 weeks and still on oxygen 4 months later with perm. lung damage and now having heart issues. I also recently was told of another relative who is pregnant ( 24 years old )who was just diagnosed. A mask seems like no big deal, at least to me when you see some of this up close and personal.

  15. Have distancing spacing in restaurants here (about every other table used). Wait staff in masks and request you mask going to and from tables. Have dined in twice with friends but only took mask off while eating as small circular table and seated elbow to elbow. Just me anymore so would normally eat out every few nights. But favorite places are either in a 1960s strip mall (lost count how many businesses have had those 2 locations) or a Mexican place in a former Mr Donut (seriously). Who knows about air circulation. So order to go and leave a nice tip for the workers.

  18. Really do hope the projections are correct Terri. So don’t understand the insults... goodbye. Thought the opinion of the report was over optimistic on end of April. So gave my opinion on why I thought it was over optimistic. Used the word “opinion” as we won’t know the facts until end of April. Didn’t realize that would make me like the guy on the street corner with a “the end is near” picket sign. 🙄

  21. They ended in Australia and New Zealand. They clamped down hard at the beginning of the pandemic and almost every citizen cooperated with the rules enforced and they were some of the most strict in the world. Now when there is an outbreak they clamp down on the affected area.

  23. Yeah.... taking precautions by choice because I’m high risk for age and others around me have health issues is mind control. All this time I thought it was because I was raised to give a #### about others. Guess that Jesus guy was a real schmuck..

  25. Optimism is discouraged. We'll have none of that. If this strain doesn't get us there will be another from South Africa, South America, South Dakota, or Poughkeepsie. Masks forever.

  26. Thanks for the reminder as that’s on my to do (after retirement) list. Did flu shot last (way too young) doctor visit but need to ask next visit. Wife had shingles and said it was one of the worse things she ever went through. For her that’s saying a lot. Also glad to hear Mike D and others getting vaccinations. Wish y’all in the priority groups would hurry up so people like me in the “ok who’d we miss” group can get them. 😬

  28. My thought is that BAC’s announcement on March 17th could give us an idea of what to expect in Indy for 2021 if there is a 2021. Personally I think it is going to be more of a series of exhibitions than a competitive event, perhaps a kick off event to 2022 and DCI’s 50th anniversary. If the event is successful, it would not be a bad time to announce a capital campaign however if it is the financial disaster some are predicting it will be, that would not be the best idea.

  29. New normal.... know some people here don’t like hearing personal experiences but had 2 family members go thru life changing health issues. Had to adjust to “new normal” for them so they could have a full of a life as possible. Guess going thru that makes me kind of *shrug* having to now mask or make other changes in everyday life. Been there, done that and no BFD...

  31. Never heard the term before but it does define these things. I get the feeling it was all for show when people wear them into a restaurant and then take them off. The Gym previously had masks on to walk in and then when people were in the locker room they were off. No outbreaks or as the old folks say super spreader events took place there. Virtual camp upcoming but no words if we have to wear a mask for the virtual camp or not.

  34. Medical experts privately agreed with many earlier predictions about natural and herd immunity, but suggested they would not talk publicly about it because We the People might become too complacent and fail to take precautions or decline the vaccines being offered. In other words, they believe in lying about it. A white lie, perhaps, but a lie nonetheless. Yep that's your government for ya!

  38. Not sure if directed at me but was just bringing up my thoughts. Hoped the line “hope it’s right” and “wait and see” would be a clue. Have just seen too many over optimistic predictions to put a lot of faith in them until I see results. And the irony is if I had to choose one source to trust it would be JHU. Kris and I spent enough time there for various reasons

  44. Mike, brought up my dissenting thoughts in another thread but will repeat here. Full article has 150 million people (40% of population) fully vaccinated by end of April. Also 10-25% cases reported means 4 to 10 times the number of cases than reported. Both seem optimistic to me but I’m no expert. Finally the 70% drop totally ignores that this is comparing to the horrible spike we had due to holiday travel. So was 70% drop due things being so much better now or due to how horrible things were 6 weeks ago. Key point to me yet not mentioned at all. I do hope what is reported comes true but still in wait and see mode. And expecting the laughing icon for whatever reason 🙄

  46. Although much is unknown about what the state of COVID will be in the late spring and summer, one thing is certain: most schools will not allow a large group of out-of-town young adults to rehearse or sleep in their gym. Hard stop. Many schools aren't even allowing in-district activities to take place. Anyone who thinks that this summer can happen, even in a modified form, is dreaming. I absolutely love Drum Corps I'm on also on a school board. I would not support or allow any drum corps to use our facilities. The risk, although much less than the past year, is still too high.
