  1. What I'm gathering from this paragraph is that some movements (e.g., patriotism, religion) are okay, while others (e.g., #MeToo, #BLM discussed in a response, others promoting justice and equality) are to be avoided. I guess the stance is "only do stuff that I'm okay with." That's a fine stance - just be open about it.

  2. It's only a small number of people who don't see the value in her reactions. She's been very open to learning about our world, and it always baffles me when some of our community see that as something of a threat. It's like people saying they'd start a corps if they won the lottery, yet hating on Bill Cook for doing EXACTLY THAT with his own funds. You can't have it both ways, people. I was the first person to pay for a reaction vid (Bloo '14) and was happy to pay for others when I had money....and I just paid for another. Her appreciation is genuine....she's definitely a Crown fan...and I look forward to each of her vids. If some people don't like it, I suggest simply not commenting.

  3. I have also noticed that she has become more knowledgeable in her commentary, so she is definitely learning.

  4. Yes, a lot of this was covered, but for whatever reason (insert DCI conspiracy theory of your choice), the Covid document is no longer on line. Publishing the information could go a long way in mitigating some concerns potential marching members (or their parents) have concerning th eproposed summer events. Perhaps the document is now stored in the same secure location as 1975 Muchachos score sheets.

  5. I have not heard anyone auditioning for woodwinds. That would diminish the shows in my opinion. Woodwinds have no place in the marching arts in my opinion. I have to agree with you on your statement for woodwinds and music stage acts.

  6. This activity has continued to evolve slowly and gradually, but does evolve mean to get better? From purely a design standpoint we have seen some incredible productions from every era too. Yet for a multitude of reasons many no longer have the same passion or interest and have stepped away. When I read about woodwinds instruments being used or "Drum Corps" evolve to become more like "Musical Stage" acts, I'm left to consider “whether” or “if" I have the stomach for any of this anymore.

  7. She’s also done some WGI and HBCU band reaction videos, so she’s experiencing many variations on our marching world.

  8. Seems to be a lot of critique about New Zealand Girl and her reactions to viewing various clips on youtube about 'our activity' drum corps. I think she has done an outstanding job as a "new recruit" introducing her to the exposure of drum corps. Everyone is being far to critical of her and her reviews. What if? every response from her was a response from a member of your family for the first time viewing this activity, would you still feel so critical and the same way? Cut her some slack! We should all be glad that she is interested enough to look at the activity, review performances of corps and spend her time to create a youtube review. You all are being far too critical of her. She has no obligation to do this and waste her time to make all of you feel good!

  9. DCI and various Corps continue to plan and move toward the summer season. Each Corps, as well as DCI, has (or will have) a Covid Plan, which includes testing symptom checks and the like. Details likely will vary from unit to unit. My question is this: If one (or more) members or staff of a given Corps test positive for Covid during ST/tour, what happens then? I would assume (dangerous) that the Covid Plan would spell out what happens in this event; I am truly curious what this is. Remove the member & place individual in quarantine? Place the whole Corps in quarantine (which would likely mean missing some performances)? Put entire Corps in quarantine and when period is over send everyone who is not sick) home? Or something else? I think this is a 'Hope for the best, plan for the worse' situation.

  10. I got the JNJ Janssen today. I read that here in Illinois that they’re vaccinating 16 and up with the Pfizer now. That should help with reopening drum corps. Dr. Fauci said today that there is very little chance that vaccinated people will spread the virus.

  14. I agree. Some of her drum corps reactions have reached 80K views. Not bad for our little activity. There are lots of people creating these types of reactions covering a wide variety of entertainment areas. I am glad she is doing drum corps. She does a lot of military reactions, and I saw a Japanese marching band reaction from her. Also watched her react to an old Abbott and Costello Who's on First video, which has become a popular reaction video. More power to Courtney, and I hope she continues reacting to drum corps.

  21. Checking In From The West Coast Analyzing the Latest News From VMAPA, SCV has no official announcements regarding 2021 beyond "more" fundraising activites, Introducing the 2021 Vanguard Hall of Fame Class, Ticket’s for Vanguard’s Virtual Birthday Dinner now available!, Executive Team 2020 Year-End Letter, VMAPA Announces 2021 Board of Directors Leadership, and various virtual clips. Further, VMAPA has adopted a "political position" in the current political climate which I personally do not like. The activity Drum Corps's evolved from an era of patriotism by The American Legion and The Veterans of Foreign Wars along with various Church sponsorships. I do not like that 501C3 youth sponsor ships have to interject or be part of the "Me Too" movement and become political. They should just remain "neutral" and stay out of politics and do what they do best; prorvide programs for youth.
