  1. No, I do not agree. I do wish every corps found it viable and feasible to go to Indy but I do not think any corps should feel an obligation to participate in any capacity at the expense of the corps’ well being (financially or otherwise).

  2. There are many people still in hysteria and buying the hype. You cannot force them to come out of the basement and do something before they feel totally safe. Some people think that they would be endangering their children's lives letting them travel anytime in the next few years.

  3. I'm sure BD would be fine providing DCI a documentary film of their travels and/or performances for all to see what they missed out on. Very well could be the star attraction!

  4. I got the JNJ Janssen today. I read that here in Illinois that they’re vaccinating 16 and up with the Pfizer now. That should help with reopening drum corps. Dr. Fauci said today that there is very little chance that vaccinated people will spread the virus.

  5. Yeah, sorry Fred, but the member corps need to do what they deem best given their individual situations.

  6. Requiring corps to engage in activities that may be fiscally irresponsible for their circumstances seems inconsistent with DCI’s principles.

  7. I don't know that woodwinds would drive me away completely. Maybe if they manufactured them or figured out a way for marchers to carry them and play them in an upright and bugle-like fashion, I could tolerate them somewhat. Of course the oboe line might look a little silly.

  10. We hear this word often these days. Should it apply here, too? The upcoming “Bridge Season” serves to help maintain the role of Drum Corps international (the corporation) as drum corps’ biggest, most competent, event provider. Under normal circumstances, DCI has demonstrated its ability to stage an entire year of related events, including a full Summer Tour schedule. Now, DCI looks to keep that “engine” idling until 2022 when operational conditions are expected to be improved. Understandably, each regularly participating corps is given latitude during 2021 in determining what operational level it can handle at this time. Many groups (about 20) are planning to “do the bridge” over a few week period. Others have chosen to do something else, or provide a different alternative to their students. In my opinion . . . EVERY corps that regularly participates under the DCI banner should support the corporation’s effort by presenting a performance in Indianapolis this summer. A student performance of some sort. This could be in the form of a small ensemble in standstill, a contingent to appear in Drum Line Battle, an Alumni performance group, etc., etc. Spend most of 2021 however you like, but perform in Indianapolis in some manner, if only for one day. There is a way for everyone to be represented with a performance in Indianapolis. It’s the RIGHT thing to do, too ! Agree?

  12. some corps also look at the guidelines the task force set forth and decided the cost literally outweighed the benefits. the activity has a way too big graveyard of corps who forgot to look at costs

  15. I agree with you in spirit. I'd rather B.D. and Santa Clara appear at Indianapolis this summer, and I completely understand why they're choosing not to. The corps appearing are doing the heavy lifting to help keep the activity alive. Hopefully those not appearing have an activity to come back to.

  16. You can read about Bluecoats’ covid protocols in this article. While at IWU, it talks about securing quarantine rooms for affected members. https://bluecoats.com/news/2021/4/1/the-bluecoats-return-announcing-the-2021-season And I have three Bluecoats masks.

  17. I couldn’t give you exact details but it’s my understanding that’s one reason Crown is staying put at Gardner Webb. They’ll be in dorm rooms and I think will have some extra rooms for isolation if needed. Fortunately, if the membership tries hard enough, they can probably be vaccinated before move in. My kid will be. They are also using the university’s food service to both reduce volunteer needs and because the university food service already has Covid protocols and procedures in place. This does add some cost but worth it I think.

  19. I had a chance to read the document before it got pulled. One thing that I found surprising was DCI's "Disclaimer" which said,in effect, that the document was informational and each corps was responsible to determine what was best for them.

  21. Mild side effects are suppose to be a good thing. Had some with both doses of the Moderna. Or as they say, the Moderna version of the "Fauci Ouchi". 😁

  22. I feel a little foggy today about 18 hours in but besides that, I’m fine. Jim has no side effects but they used to shoot several vaccines at once into him with a vaccine gun when he was an active Marine. So this isn’t going to affect him. Anyway, it’s only one shot and you’re done. Anyway, I think once the young ones get the vaccine if they choose to do so, it will move things along. We need some optimism.

  23. Congrats! I got my first Moderna vaccine a couple of weeks ago. In Michigan, everyone 16 and up is eligible for vaccination. With MI, in a huge surge of cases, that’s good news.

  29. It is that way with many things. These days patriotism is not a good and you have to dance around the subject of that and religion. On the other hand other social issues are the new interesting subjects. For example. I'm ok with marching because its what I personally want to do. Some are not ok with marching because that's not what they feel is responsible.

  30. Yes, a lot of this was covered, but for whatever reason (insert DCI conspiracy theory of your choice), the Covid document is no longer on line. Publishing the information could go a long way in mitigating some concerns potential marching members (or their parents) have concerning th eproposed summer events. Perhaps the document is now stored in the same secure location as 1975 Muchachos score sheets.

  31. I have not heard anyone auditioning for woodwinds. That would diminish the shows in my opinion. Woodwinds have no place in the marching arts in my opinion. I have to agree with you on your statement for woodwinds and music stage acts.

  32. This activity has continued to evolve slowly and gradually, but does evolve mean to get better? From purely a design standpoint we have seen some incredible productions from every era too. Yet for a multitude of reasons many no longer have the same passion or interest and have stepped away. When I read about woodwinds instruments being used or "Drum Corps" evolve to become more like "Musical Stage" acts, I'm left to consider “whether” or “if" I have the stomach for any of this anymore.

  33. It's only a small number of people who don't see the value in her reactions. She's been very open to learning about our world, and it always baffles me when some of our community see that as something of a threat. It's like people saying they'd start a corps if they won the lottery, yet hating on Bill Cook for doing EXACTLY THAT with his own funds. You can't have it both ways, people. I was the first person to pay for a reaction vid (Bloo '14) and was happy to pay for others when I had money....and I just paid for another. Her appreciation is genuine....she's definitely a Crown fan...and I look forward to each of her vids. If some people don't like it, I suggest simply not commenting.

  34. Seems to be a lot of critique about New Zealand Girl and her reactions to viewing various clips on youtube about 'our activity' drum corps. I think she has done an outstanding job as a "new recruit" introducing her to the exposure of drum corps. Everyone is being far to critical of her and her reviews. What if? every response from her was a response from a member of your family for the first time viewing this activity, would you still feel so critical and the same way? Cut her some slack! We should all be glad that she is interested enough to look at the activity, review performances of corps and spend her time to create a youtube review. You all are being far too critical of her. She has no obligation to do this and waste her time to make all of you feel good!

  38. Thank you DrummerParent for the great post. I took a job this past semester and this semester to help my parents with the cost. Both continued to had employment at our family's business during this past year. It was off and on but made it through and can't wait to march this summer.

  39. That's a lot of Poppycock for sure. Look at all the likes and thanks on that post. The tour fee is high but there are kids at age out last year and this year who are willing to pay the cost.

  42. Before the Devils announcement on Switzerland they were being touted as physical responsible etc etc etc. Now they are being praised for the responsible actions of planning a international trip. There are restrictions on travel to Switzerland yet none of the folks who point out the logistical issues with travel within the USA are pointing these international issues out. Why is that? According to the US government US embassy in Switzerland USA is on the list of countries that can't stay but could pass through the airport if your destination country is other than Switzerland. https://ch.usembassy.gov/covid-19-info/#:~:text=Currently the Swiss Immigration Office, for Switzerland have been met. https://www.sem.admin.ch/sem/en/home/sem/aktuell/entry-restrictions-to-third-countries.html

  44. So you're saying the corps traveling to Indianapolis in an abbreviated non-competitive season are still charging $3,500? I don't think that's right either, but I still applaud the effort and appreciate the attempt to keep the activity alive when it's living off fumes. Hopefully, there will be an activity for BD and SCV to come back to in 2022.
