  1. In 28 of DCI's 48 years, the championship has been won by one of two corps from California. In 1 of DCI's 48 years, the championship has been hosted in the same state as one of the two corps referenced above. They have already invested more of their fair share of financial and logistical resources to the activity.

  2. Not to mention the influence of design and trends. I find it appalling that anyone would think that either organization owes anything to DCI to participate in the dog and pony show just to prop up DCI. In fact it’s the other way around.

  4. They scheduled Jim and I a half hour apart and then took us in the same room at the same time and injected us one after the other. I don’t know what they did with the other twenty minutes. 🤷‍♀️

  5. Some notable “ Snyder Cuts”: SCV 2014 Madison Scouts 1992 Cadets 1994 and 2009 SCV 1989 Arguably, I think all are better then the original....sans Cadets. That’s a tough one. Nonetheless, shows I would like to see “ Snyder Cut” Cadets 1986: ....Arguably, the 1st-3rd movements of the show where they are playing music from “On the Waterfront” is some of the best of the Cadets from that decade. The reboot of it was what I was hoping they would do in either 2018 or 2019 with the association with the Bernstein estate. Not to say we can’t rule out future shows with Bernstein music and The Cadets, (or Santa Clara), but hoping this can be in a show from them in the future. Phantom 2004: Everything said in the above post. To add, I can imagine what this music with today’s props, staging, and electronics would be. Phantom might want to revisit it. Blue Stars 2011: Rebourne- Universal Studios Florida recently opened a show based on the Bourne Series, which is impressive. While watching that show, I was thinking of all the set pieces, props, and music, as well as storyline being used. What was already great music in that show, ( as well as an underrated percussion book), could be enhanced by by electronics and props in the modern day. Perhaps adding in more music from “ The Matrix”, would also enhance the show too. Madison Scouts 2014: I remember when Madison announced this Kenton and Ellis show around December 2013, I was hyped for it. But from the first time I saw the show, ( at the June movie theater premier), my hype was somewhat diminished. “Beefing it up” was needed from that first incarnation of the show, and to that, I think they did a reasonable/ OK job. The Don Elias closer along with the soloist in the end zone was a fantastic add, but it always seemed like they could have done so much more with the music presented and the overall theme. Revisiting this music, added in with Waltz of the Mushroom Hunters, and something other then Strawberry Soup from Ellis show would be incredible show.

  7. no, their attendance at DCI Championships remains unbroken as this is not DCI Championships. it's a celebration of who can stay the healthiest and not break the bank doing so

  8. We hear this word often these days. Should it apply here, too? The upcoming “Bridge Season” serves to help maintain the role of Drum Corps international (the corporation) as drum corps’ biggest, most competent, event provider. Under normal circumstances, DCI has demonstrated its ability to stage an entire year of related events, including a full Summer Tour schedule. Now, DCI looks to keep that “engine” idling until 2022 when operational conditions are expected to be improved. Understandably, each regularly participating corps is given latitude during 2021 in determining what operational level it can handle at this time. Many groups (about 20) are planning to “do the bridge” over a few week period. Others have chosen to do something else, or provide a different alternative to their students. In my opinion . . . EVERY corps that regularly participates under the DCI banner should support the corporation’s effort by presenting a performance in Indianapolis this summer. A student performance of some sort. This could be in the form of a small ensemble in standstill, a contingent to appear in Drum Line Battle, an Alumni performance group, etc., etc. Spend most of 2021 however you like, but perform in Indianapolis in some manner, if only for one day. There is a way for everyone to be represented with a performance in Indianapolis. It’s the RIGHT thing to do, too ! Agree?

  9. in 2021 one doesn't have to attend to be connected, especially staff. For quite sometime now, meetings, discussions, policy, auditions for members, Qand A etc etc saved corps and people quite a bit of money to be able to use modern tech. to directly be involved. Lets be honest here, by the time events take place in any season and IF corps and staff have time to sit around it's all just about socializing, usually at a party or local bar..lol especially at championships. Nothing much important being discussed there...lol Many businesses are now finding out people working from home may never go back to an actual office. Just had a discussion with 2 people today who are in just that position. They do want out of their house though..lol I get what you're saying as your point of view.

  11. When I got my first shot. I scheduled my second shot for 10 minutes after Hope’s. Then the intake person told me, “but you can really come in anytime on the day you are scheduled.” Go figure. I should add that there are about 30 stations going at the same time.

  13. 100 % correct. There was story on this on the news this morning. NJ is lowering the eligibility age to 16 as of 4/19. That was do in part to planned increases in J&J doses. Problem is,because of the problems at J&J's Baltimore plant,NJ's allotment will drop by about 96% for the next several weeks. That's gonna create more of a backlog in the scheduling of appointments.

  14. Just got told you will be scheduled for the second shot and links to Moderna and Pfizer. Lack of info surprise surpise Drove to the place to check and hardly any cars in the parking lot. And they want to schedule 5 minutes apart. 🤯

  15. SCV has been in finals each year since 1972. SCV, Cavies, Cadets, Phantom and Madison have competed each year in prelims since 1972. Troopers competed in 1972 but was inactive for one year in 2006. BD and BAC’s first year in prelims was 1973. Colts competed for the first time in 1973 but did not compete in 74. They have competed each year since 1975. BD and Phantom first made finals in 1974.

  16. Nor did Phantom, Cadets or Cavaliers. But they showed up for prelims every year.

  17. As I was unable to clearly describe how small an effort it would take for an organization not doing the mini-tour leading up to Indy, I’ll finish with these thoughts. An important component of the Final DCI Weekend is a series of live, public performances throughout the host city. This goes beyond just what happens that Saturday night. It would take relatively little investment of time, effort, and expense for any group to gather and present during a single (15 minute) slot on one daily schedule. For example, a 15-20 person brass ensemble using active members and alumni, some who already plan to be in Indy at their own expense. Music stands, a couple of Zoom practices beforehand, loaned brass, a trap set, commemorative T-Shirts, etc., etc. Play 6-7 numbers identified with that group. Indoors, outdoors, a street performance, a sponsor exhibit, a local Happy Hour, etc. Doesn’t really matter, just be a part of the performance contribution. This highly unusual, challenging 2021 Season will long be remembered. There will be printed and digital records held for reference. Oh, well. It’s an option to place on the table. Done! Best wishes to all !

  19. 2015 Cadets without the uniform change and with a better slow movement. Actually, the Cadets most every other year in the 2000's.

  20. It would also be arrogant to ignore how a global pandemic impacts the ability of different corps to travel to Indianapolis from their various points of origin.

  21. I'll support corps leaders doing what they conclude is in their groups' best interests. BD and SCV have done plenty in their histories to support DCI and enhance the activity. They should have some credit to trade on for doing something different this year.

  22. I'm sure BD would be fine providing DCI a documentary film of their travels and/or performances for all to see what they missed out on. Very well could be the star attraction!
