  1. Was that when Rosemary had her baby?

  2. Hope you're doing better now! after my 2nd Moderna shot I ran a 99.7 degree fever, was tired etc. for 2 days, now 3 weeks later only noticeable thing is a slight bruise at the injection spot. I would certainly go through it all again! Seems like they are prepping Moderna Booster for this winter! On the topic: moist corps are planning an 11–12-minute field performance plus a couple encore tunes; I believe the "Midwest combine" are planning a masse encore with all the performing corps together

  3. Oh I am fine. It was like a light switch. One minute I was bad, and almost immediately felt fine. Crazy

  6. 25 hours since my second Moderna shot, and no real side effects other than a sore deltoid, but really it is no worse than a lot of flu shots I have had. I am a little tired, not outrageously so, but that might be a function of going to bed late and getting up early.

  7. EXACTLY! I've said for years who complain that OC is the step child , well , butts in the seats and ticket sales will make a difference. WGI many years ago went through the same thing with A class getting no say or respect as well as HS guards in lower classes until they finally realized THAT IS WHERE THE MONEY IS in fees through out the year and dues and a constant flow of people. They are also the future world class members, teachers, etc etc. WGI finally got, DON'T BITE THE HAND THAT FEEDS YOU. Money and support will always get a seat at the table. So for me when I hear the complaining I always ask first, when was the last time you went to an OC show OR showed up early or got out of the lot and watched those not WC top 12. Usually there's a blank look...lol You're right also with it being a choice although it makes for a harder argument by those who make the choice to not support.

  8. Honestly, I can see how he’d think that if you saw how few people show up at the stadium in Indy to watch open class. And they’re really great. It’s gotten better but there are still people who don’t show up until the big dogs go on. Their choice.

  9. I had no such preconception. If you have not seen much DCI in the past decade, then you have not yet seen how open-class has stepped up its game. Many pleasant surprises await.

  10. I appreciate that others give their backgrounds in discussions. Those with history in the activity, who provide well thought out points, get my attention. It doesn't mean that I agree with what they say. It does however introduce perspective. We have many on this site with such backgrounds.

  11. I will assume that was just a very bad attempt at humor, and not a potshot at dyslexics. If you want to discuss anything here (which, after all, is the purpose of this forum), please refrain from making personal remarks. I am here to discuss ideas, not resumes. I would love to see them all again - on video. But aside from that, I have no desire to see future ensembles repeat what has already been done. We must have some common ground there. As it always has been. Though it is worth pointing out that throughout the history of this youth activity, members rarely get to design their shows. And at no time in history has that been more true than today, when nearly all the influential/prolific drum corps designers are old enough to be grandparents. Oh, I see. Anyone who opposes YOUR change must be a "grampa" who hates EVERY change since the days of chrome helmets, Sam Browne belts and bugle calls. Never mind that I do not fit that mold, much less how many more are like me. Instead, let us return to those 18 year olds you brought up, because what they show us is illuminating. Whenever I hear about a survey of their opinions, it says that they are overwhelmingly opposed to woodwinds in DCI drum corps. But surveys are not the best evidence. Better is to observe actions instead of just words. And their actions, especially in the past decade, show that while summer marching band programs have declined to near total extinction, kids have flocked by the hundreds to DCI drum corps auditions. That "allowance" was concerning field contest rules... not exhibition, SoundSport or I&E. And since 2021 will be nothing but exhibitions, SoundSport and I&E, there is no reason corps could not utilize woodwinds.

  14. BUGLES and TRUMPETS This may be timely, and of some interest: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ynBRJEQ5fE The link above connects to video of portions of Prince Philip's funeral today. If you scroll to 44:00 and listen to the next couple of minutes, you will hear a perfect example of the difference in timbres between bugles and trumpets. Of course, you know a true bugle has a primarily conical bore while the trumpet is almost entirely cylindrical until the bell flare. Traditionally, bugles were used to signal foot soldiers, sailors, and marines. The trumpets were reserved for heralding the comings and goings of royalty and mounted knights. When these horns were used for communication, a listener would recognize the difference in tone and understand for whom the message was intended. Naturally, the calls themselves would also differ musically: Infantry Bugles vs. Cavalry Trumpets Here they are used ceremonially. The Duke of Edinburgh was a Navy veteran, but also a member of the Royal Family, so he gets both. Incidentally, the key is irrelevant. There have been bugles and trumpets produced in all keys. These instruments have very long DNA chains.

  15. Still remember the MAD magazine satire. Had Sinatra there and Rosemary yelling (IIRC) “get that creepy guy singing Scooby Doobie Doo out of here”

  17. I would be okay with woodwind soloists in the pit. I'm not keen on seeing sections of them on the field though. Horns up with flutes and clarinets really doesn't work. I appreciate the uniformity of an all brass section on the field. The activity has integrated vocalists now. Each year they are used it just gets better and better - and I was really against them when the rule changed. I think one of the finest examples is the 2018 Cadets rendition of Ara Batur. It chokes me up every time I hear it. Just beautifully done. Your example of Gabriel's Oboe is also well noted. A final note. You may have posted the video as a joke initially, but that Bari Sax player with the lawnmower reminded me of just how nice the Bari Sax sounds.

  18. Negative Ghost Rider; they are still being used. Try "The Commandant's Own". 🇺🇸 I personally like both; the blend/tunability of the Bb* & the sonority/tone/edge of the G**. *Carolina Crown (2012+) **Spirit of ATL (1980)

  19. Awesome! You just wanted to say "Grenadilla". It's a fun word... 😁 And for the record, I'd be ok with a woodwind instrument only used for a soloist. Although I loved the flugelhorn, Crown's "Gabriel's Oboe" would have been perfect for an Oboe soloist. And here we go; countdown to comments... Staying on track comment: I hope Spirit of ATL performs "Let It Be Me"; the 1980 version.

  20. That's because you can read. 😎 BTW, in case the "protester" is concerned, I started marching drum corps 1 year after DCI was established, and have been involved as a performer, instructor, Board member, consultant for various corps, etc, pretty much every year since then. I don't want to see 1975 drum corps again, I don't want to see 1987 drum corps again, same with 1999, 2004, and 2016 - the activity if for THE MEMBERS, and no 18 year old wants to play on a rotary/valve horn or double tenor drums or do some golden moldie show just because Grampa Ted thinks that's when it was "real drum corps." Also, no one will be using woodwinds this year, since that allowance was shut down cold this past winter at the member meetings about the season.

  28. We have been hearing this same attack on "legacy fans" since George Hopkins employed it in version 9 or 10 of the 14 A&E proposals. It is ageism, it is reprehensible, and it has no place on this forum. At the same time, you may be fully correct. Perhaps it is better characterized as an impersonal attack.

  29. People still can't accept this change that happened along time ago? I mean, I accepted that the band Chicago only has three original members in it. The still play better music today much like drum corps is better today than yesterday!
