Stephen's name came up in conversation this morning, which made me google him and reminisce. I saw Stephen at a drum corps show in Lynn when I was with Crown (maybe 2010 or 2011). He asked me my name (I was already "fan-boying" him) and when I told him my name he said, "You were one of George's kids at Cadets! Mae talked about you all the time!" I didn't walk, but floated back to the RV that he knew my name. Stephen was an amazingly talented man. Probably not nearly as known as Zingali, but just as much a part of the fabric at Lancers and with many marching bands up and down the east coast!

I know there are a lot of different discussions going on in this thread, but as for Suncoast Sound and their 1988 show I remember being BLOWN away by this corps. They were talented, the show was cutting edge stuff, the brass were fantastic, and the guard was amazing. It took guts and a high level of skill to design, teach, and perform that show. I will always love the Florida Suite shows of 85 and 89 (I think that's right), and I did enjoy the 87 show. But 1986 and 1988 are both amazing for many reasons. The 1986 brass line was freakin ON FIRE when I saw them live. I mean they sound like Blue Devils. But it wasn't just 86. Their 84 and 85 lines were killer good. They are definitely a corps I truly miss.

Another person that left us way too soon; Bruce Leo. I didn't know there were more than two St. Anthony guards in MA. Condolences to the Covitz family.

I was there - was a high school sophomore at the time. Started harassing my parents about marching after seeing this. Beginning of a life long infatuation. My corps folded so I never got to tour, but was able to enjoy the activity for about 5 years as my own kids marched. It all tracks back to the 1984 season and this show.

Frankly, If the corps look young, I'll rejoice! That means the rising kids wanna march. And that bodes well for the future of the activity.

THIS! And, I'll add my two cents right now. If you're going to be a keyboard commando and anonymously criticize any drum corps because it looks small, young, or not otherwise in mid August finals shape, SHAME on you. These organizations haven't had consistent rehearsals in nearly 24 months, and most of their members probably have had very little high school/college band rehearsals or performances during the same period. Be thankful the activity is resetting and getting off the ground.

Yes, money saver was a big part of it. As I understand it, they’re in a pretty solid financial position but trying to be smart to keep it that way. I thought they were going to mix and match parts of another uniform with it but looks like they are going straight with 2019 sans the clear jacket thing. There’s one more little twist that you’ll have to wait for also :-).

My son had the highest honor of conducting the corps playing “Rainbow” on Saturday in honor of a terminally ill Cavalier Alum who was right below the podium soaking it in via his wheelchair. I can guarantee that THESE moments and memories will live with him forever, and scores and contests simply won’t.
