  1. As Boston has their final weekend camp this weekend, I've gotta say.....Spring Training/move-in is only 20 days from today. Can't wait to again hear Gino's hornline and Colin's drum line echoing off those Vermont mountains. Oh yeah, I'm sure Michael's guard might be throwing a toss or two as well....

  2. Having read the statement posted by the Seattle Cascades leadership; I wouldn't put them in a coffin, yet. Let's see how this year pans out and what becomes of next year. With that being said, I think the drum corps activity, as a whole, is definitely fading. DCI used to be the example and influence of all the other forms of the performing marching arts; those years are gone. DCA is feeling it and, in some respects, so is BOA. WGI and indoor drumlines have become the standard and the most popular of all the performing marching arts. Poppycock also made a couple good points about time and circumstance. I'd also add cost. The activity has become too d**n expensive for what the members are getting in terms of the time experience. Some of us marched when the season was, almost, a full three months long with what was called a "first and second season" or a "first and second tour." From all indications; things are going to be getting any cheaper any time soon. Eventually, the activity is going to have to realize that either something has to give or corps by corps, year by year, the drum corps activity will fade away. Some will survive; but morph into something different and others will just join the ghosts and memory banks of those that have went away, already.

  3. Yep and not enough corps to have separate A-60 or other divisions. Things too expensive for many reasons to start a new group. Don’t even think Sound Sport is helping that.

  4. The days in question are in the distant past! It's not so much a measure of time, but a measure of circumstances.

  5. The touring model was never ever going to be a sustainable solution for the majority of organizations when it was first put in place as a prerequisite to perform in DCI sanctioned shows. Segregating organizations by size and/or age from performing in DCI sanctioned shows that were geographically where those other organizations were based was a poor decision too. Neither decision did anything to promote the activity as a whole. The one thing that has always been consistent over the last 50 years is that DCI member organizations is a all for one mindset.

  7. Ok i dared myself to watch it again. Aside from the creeping behind her. I think he's telling us she has false teeth?

  10. Yeah.. and i really did appreciate all that work. I guess maybe no one have such time on their hands now. Or maybe the right person will do it for this season, when they do have that time.

  11. Someone in the past has taken a lot of time to create a thread with a list of all corps with updates as they're released. Haven't seen one created this season.

  12. well no DCI membership is an all for me first then everyone else mindset

  13. the problem is they justify every increase in membership on how many bodies fit on a bus

  14. correct i believe it's the highest score of the season....final performance order is set the Sunday night of the last regular season weekend. now knowing what corps to expect would be nice

  15. Don’t expect DCI to read the name of organizations that have participated over those years and no longer exist. Why! They couldn’t care less.

  16. Looking at the activity 50 years ago vs today, it occurs to me that the DCI 50th anniversary celebration is actually more of a wake. 😞

  17. That is a set of Corders drums.... We had those at UA my freshman year. They bring the word "wretched" to a whole new level. And in the spirit of awful, I give you the following: The Roches Big Nuthin' And you're welcome.

  18. True enough. The reduction to 9 snares was one of the better moves corps made years ago. It's amazing how much easier it is to listen center with one less snare.

  19. The demise of the importance of the entire Top 25 didn't help much, either. There was a time when placing 25th was a really big deal and something special. However, that was also time when there were a lot more corps than there are, now, and individuals wanted to be a part of a specific corps because they liked their style and identity as opposed to being a ring chaser.

  20. 1 of the 10 could be an alternate however...who knows.

  21. There are ten snares at Crown’s camp this weekend. I sure hope that doesn’t come back to bite them like it did with Boston a few years ago.

  22. I would love to see a return of A-60, I don’t see it happening. I think the intention of A-60 was to strengthen the identity of smaller corps, but it turned out to be either a stepping stone for ambitious and often new corps, and a last hurrah for other corps. When finals was held in Foxboro in 1994, I spoke with someone I knew who marched with Blue Stars who was a volunteer instructor. His claim was that the corps was happy where they were and returning to the top 12 was not a goal. While I cannot claim to have talked to anyone associated with Blue Stars when they returned to WC competition, my guess would be that as the corps improved and rebuilt, goals changed. I think that happens. Jersey Surf was happy where they were but are now WC. Same is true for Genesis and Music City. Gold will make the move in a year or two, and depending on how Guardians re-emerges this year, I could see them moving up as well.

  23. I think if I was on death row, I would get some St. Elmo’s shrimp cocktail. I would give it to the executioner with no warning. That should buy me some time.

  24. Families don’t have the disposable income and those who do are interested in getting the most bang for their investment. The affordable multiple years drum corps experience is declining rapidly, not to mention that the pool of available talent is both shallow and small. Those with the resources will spend it elsewhere even if it’s only for a one season experience.

  26. I know! The vocal quality just suddenly goes really weird. I mean her 'harmonization' parts (using the concept of harmony in a vague and abstract way here in her case) is bad enough. Then this starts and I'm like...is she going for something operatic but doesn't know what vibrato and tone control is?

  31. They fought brass timing errors due to ridiculous staging the entire season. They never did get everything fixed. And the fixes that were put in were more like small bandaids. The potential of that show early season was frightening.
