  1. This season is probably the closest the show design has been to 2012 than at any time since that show (music wise). I don’t get the vibe that it’s dark at all.

  3. No idea what happened. But still going to comment that it is really tough to get all of this right. It may be that Vanguard is jumping the gun and poorly communicating. It may also be that Vanguard is jumping out in front of a situation and acting fast, as so many here and elsewhere have argued needs to be done in many cases. No idea. Just tough. Certainly impossible to please everyone + act quickly, especially if someone's safety or health is an issue + be mindful of due process + be attentive to liability issues.

  4. Facebook is the MonkeyPox of social media. I note the associated members of SCV that were also let go.

  5. You should set up a website and have t-shirts to sell that say "Pageantry Leeches." Then have a booth where you sell these t-shirts.

  6. Considering they were slow on the draw on a couple of other individuals. I’ll say no more.

  7. Hypothetically, The Blue Devils could tour only one week prior to Indy and they would probably still win finals.

  8. Tim Hintons newest podcast talks to the directors of Colts, Surf and Madison, and a staggering thought came up, which i know has been debated in many threads here. the average cost to house, feed, transport and of course things like insurance is $9800 per kid...and dues run in the $5k range. they specifically stated the costs that led to that number, of which equipment, props, uniforms/costumes etc weren't part of it. so for 60-70 days of housing, fuel/bus and food is $9800 a kid. so say $165 a day. think about what you spend a day on food, travel and housing.

  11. Did you catch the part about a 'third-party investigator'? That is something many of us have advocated for.

  12. I’m just reporting what I saw, I’m making no judgment calls on this because I have no information besides what he says SCV said to him. Facebook is my new bff because I got a check for $397 from them yesterday. I’ll hate them again tomorrow.

  13. This. I’d be surprised if SCV as an organization said anything about this current issue. Their MO has always been to be as tight-lipped on everything as possible, whether that’s show announcements, an important staff member leaving suddenly, or anything else especially internal. It’s up for debate whether some or any of those things should be talked about publicly, for me it depends largely on the situation. My bet is they’ll take the “don’t talk about it and it’ll go away eventually” approach for this one.

  15. We have no confirmation of what happened. Nothing except an original post from the poster and a link to the member concerned. Also, the many comments on his FB post. DCP loves a controversy. This website has been driven to the level of TMZ. Time and time again.

  16. Then perhaps 'Corporate SCV' should say something. Surely they know that a change this big at this point of the season would create questions within the Drum Corps community. Did they have press releases ready to go? Or did they not know, and are now behind the curve? (And don't call me Shirley)

  19. I hate Facebook and my account is so locked down with privacy settings, that Jim couldn’t even get into it if i dropped dead. But they did send me a check for $397 yesterday because I signed onto the Illinois civil suit against them.

  21. I get that part. Not defending the man’s actions (because I don’t know what actually happened) but it’s definitely better to jump out in front and try to control the narrative. If he said nothing, rumors would run amok and his silence would be taken as an admission of guilt in the court of public opinion.

  23. Not sure if anyone has started a 2022 thread for the greatest corps to grace the world, but..... SPLOOIE! I'm beyond excited to see them live again. Two years of absence is far to long. I apologize for absence on here too... I have been pretty busy from music studies, work, and maintaining my land. But everything is great! I don't have many complaints. Anyways, I hope everyone is well and excited like I am for the 2022 season! GO GREEN MACHINE!

  25. Monkeypox isn’t a new disease. The first confirmed human case was in 1970, when the virus was isolated from a child suspected of having smallpox in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Monkeypox is unlikely to cause another pandemic, but with the COVID-19 mindsets still present by many, fear of another major outbreak is understandable.

  27. Also amongst those comments are a vast variety of respected staff, alumnus, recent members showing support. He seems to have been well appreciated by many, though it could also just be a good example of a Facebook echo chamber.

  28. I think the individual in question may have stirred the pot a bit when he posted that his only communication with SCV was to tell him that he was a destructive force in the organization. It’s right there in a public Facebook post. Available for anyone with a Facebook account to read.

A employee who has not achieved or completed the required years of creditable study and/or participation in order to earn the right/distinction to be called an educator. a.k.a. Clueless 3. Demonstrates a pattern of self-centered, arrogant thinking and behavior, a lack of empathy and consideration for marching members and/or staff, an excessive need for admiration, and honestly greedy. a.k.a. Narcissist 4. Known to speak jargon, that is perceived as fashionable at the particular time or in a particular context that is incoherent and incomprehensible to those pretending to understand during rehearsal. a.k.a. 30. It isn't going to be front page news on the Philadelphia Inquirer, but they should have known that within the Drum Corps world in particular and the marching arts world in general that this would be a big deal. So, you get in front of it. Not try to play catch-up like we have seen multiple times since the Hopacolypse.

  36. Scene: On a rainy evening outside the Newark Armory in 1970, three instructors in a parked car wait for the doors to open so Garfield's drill rehearsal can begin. Pete (Emmons): "We need a cool set for White Rabbit, something nobody else would do." Bobby (Hoffman): "Yeah, well how about this?" (Draws a Peace Sign with his finger in the condensation on the inside of the car's windshield.) Pete: "Wow! That's REALLY cool, but who's gonna figure out how to get them into that from the previous set?" Bobby: "You are, Mr. Trooper Circle." Me: (Speechless, thinking "Nobody's ever gonna believe this".)

  38. Like Jeff said, I think it depends on the era and also what appealed to you. Writing drill is an artform but one that affects each of us differently. The activity today is more a combination of drill, dance, body movement and character acting, props, staging, etc. It's no longer just straight up drill and music. In the 70s Pete Emmons is a name that has to come up. He taught many future drill writers. The George Zingali / Marc Sylvester combination of writer / teacher worked its magic in the late 70s and early 80s with 27th Lancers and then Garfield Cadets. Zingali would also work with Star of Indiana in the late 80s and those first two years in the 90s. At the same time Zingali and Sylvester were doing their thing, Steve Brubaker was pioneering some beautiful geometric designs with the Cavaliers from 1984 into the early 90s. The thing to consider when it comes to drill writing is that everyone was influenced by everyone else. The ideas are fluid and each new germ of an idea tends to lead others to try things. I think most people tend to put Zingali and Brubaker at the top of the list simply because it was so obvious what they were doing and how it changed the activity in the 80s, but all the names below had a hand in the advances, changes, and great designs over the course of DCI history. I don't know if there is a best. There are designers who had more influence, but in the end it comes down to how did the drill work with the music and overall show. George Zingali Steve Brubaker Pete Emmons Scott Chandler Michael Gaines Jay Murphy Tony Smith Bobby Hoffman Jeff Sacktig John Brazale Mark Sylvester Myron Rosander David Owens Tony Hall Ralph Pace Jonathan Vanderkoff And many many more.
