  1. TBH, I like Crown and Bluecoats more than Boston... There, I said it!!!!

  2. It’s been another fun weekend spending time with great fans of drum corps. For those going to Indy we’ll see you there to watch BD take the big toy back to Concord. Can’t miss us we’re the most outrageously dressed Queens Indy will ever see. Enjoy!

  3. Clearly you have missed it - they added an extra "right here, right now" at the end, so now they say it 1,003 times instead of 1,002 times. That's growth.

  5. If I don’t hear some Billy Joel at the beginning of this show, I hope they get beat by the cadets tonight

  6. A spontaneous and unforced standing O. Heartfelt and sincere. I expect to be in tears three night in a row. I don’t care where they place.

  7. Vanguard That’s about as solid performance quality you can get a week before finals. I don’t know if the Crownies will hold Vanguard off tonight. Wouldn’t at all be surprised if Vanguard wins tonight.

  9. My thoughts on BD vs BAC after seeing both in person last night. Boston may be the best drumcorps on planet Earth from minutes 8-10 of their show. They are firing on all cylinders at that point. Everything around that chunk of time ( minutes 0-8, and the ending) never reaches the heights of the "closer" for lack of a better term. Although they are spectacular at all times, the pacing feels a little strange for lots of the show. The brass (which are mind glowingly good) go large chunks without playing. Transitions from section to section are good, but not as smooth/seamless as BD. These are all nitpicks, but when you are talking about the top 1-2 percent the little things absolutely matter. I thought BAC was clearly closer to Bluecoats than BD last night. Could that change in a week? Possibly. It would be awesome to see a new champion in year 50. Unfortunately, the kids in BAC are performing the snot out of what they have, but I do not think their show will allow them to catch Devils. Ultimately, I was the big winner last night, as I got to see both shows up close an personal. Can't wait to do it again tonight. Z

  10. This means Troopers will draw the 10th, 11th, or 12th place performance spot in prelims. That’s huge!

  11. Feel like 2-4, 6-10, and 11-14 is gonna get really fun in Indy. I’d be shocked after this weekend if anyone upsets BD, that just doesn’t seem in the cards. Only other placement I would bet anything on is SCV probably finishing 5th. Everything else seems up for grabs.

  13. Vanguard has a higher ceiling production. It deserves consideration for a medal right here right now!

  14. These students in Scouts are so much stronger than the show written for them this year.

  15. That was a very good cadets run!! I’m so excited for the members and the team

  16. I just do not see the Cadets finishing lower than 6th. To me, it's an obvious step up from Blue Stars and Cavaliers. This season is going to really set up the Cadets well for the future.

  17. The usage of various metals by SCV's front ensemble entering the closer was *chef's kiss*. I also can't get enough of that ending. The flag integration, drill, and prop manipulation, coupled with the beautiful front ensemble writing is a MOMENT.

  18. There's a few battery lines at SCV's level but SCV's pit is what still sets them apart.

  19. So excited for SCV. I hate to admit that there was a time, early on this season, when I doubted that I’d ever connect with this show. Vanguard proved me wrong, as I should have expected. Absolutely one of my favorites of the season now.

  20. Yes - there is a difference between a polite standing ovation when performance ends and having the crowd on their feet for last 45 seconds before show even ends

  21. I can't and won't speak for the rest of camp BD. They are grown adults and can speak for themselves. But as for me, I haven't went anywhere. I have been here the entire week, including showing alot of love to BAC and their fanbase in the BAC thread. I was one of the people who said BAC would be top three, maybe top two before the season started when I got a secret video of their show early June, and I went on record saying it in this forum and got laughed at by some. No fear or being scared by me. I am more concerned with BD finishing top two for the 14th consecutive DCI Season. If BAC/Crown/Bloo/SCV come back and win next week, it's because they earned it fair and square, no excuses. And I will be congratulating and showing love to the champion and their fanbase, just like I did in 08/11/13/16/18.

  22. Vulgar? Good lord it’s abs and nipples it’s not going to hurt you or anyone else in the audience regardless of age. Why are people so repulsed by the human body?

  23. Because that's the way they chose to schedule their season. Cadets didn't start until a week later than everyone else in their current tier. How's that any different?

  24. It's the beginning of the world for Boston. While I hoped (and hope) they would win finals, I never expected/expect them to. Atlanta scoring was an anomaly and I wasn't surprised by that. I don't care if Boston places 2nd or 3rd. I wouldn't even care if they placed 5th. What I care about is that they are riding on all cylinders this year. Their design team has designed a show, for the first time, that is championship caliber. Their brass and percussion sections have now reached the heights that their guard has been at for the past several years. THAT is what is important here, not where they place. They have figured it out. They have figured out what they need to do to win. If they keep this going and build off this momentum I have no doubt within the next few years that they will be our next new champion. I may not happen next year. Crown hit 2nd place for the first time in 2009 and didn't win until 2013. Bluecoats did it in 2014 and didn't win until 2016. Regiment did it in 1977 and didn't win (outright) until 2008 (I doubt that will be Boston's fate). That happens and it may happen with Boston, but we are seeing the emergence of a future champion, and that's extremely exciting.

  25. It's not the end of the world, BAC! A few show gremlins made an appearance last night, and you know that was a one off. It's out of your system......now just focus on the amazing week ahead! You've got this, Boston!

  27. I’m going to have to eat my words a bit. But before I do, I don’t think judging 24 hours apart is an accurate indicator between 2 groups. That being said… Judges 100% were comparing the groups on both nights. If you look at each judge’s scores, they never repeated a score in content or achievement between 2 nights. They were clearly intending for their scores to be an accurate representation to compare both nights. But again, I don’t think it’s accurate, and you’re technically judging 1 group that had 24 hours more to practice.

  28. Wait wait wait. I thought the whole point of repeating the judging panel at Allentown was for the judges to factor in their night 1 scores when they were judging on night 2 … ? I’ve always been under the impression that we’re meant to treat it like one comp. When did that change? At any rate I don’t think the “different comps / different nights / different scores” line is totally appropriate in this case — we’re not talking about two different judging panels here. I feel like J. Missing would agree with me

  29. If a high school marching band did this, I’d probably enjoy it. But it’s just like… you’re Carolina Crown!! Top tier drum corps with stellar musicians and color guard, insane performance levels. Then, you pair it with that show. Why?! I want Crown to be amazing, I really do!!

  30. My mom seeing the ballad tarp with the Whack o Crownie for the first time... "What IS that??" Probably not the response you want from your audience. 😂

  32. It is not scattered and it's one of the most cohesive shows of the season, musically and visually. It's stunning.

  33. Here we go. SMDH. It's funny cause several years back, some people whined and cried because BD performed more than anyone else, so they were getting more time in front of the judges. Now it's less time in front of the judges with more rehearsal time. I see some getting warmed up for next Saturday night when/if BD wins.

  34. So combined my thoughts and the 10 year olds thoughts: Boston we both thought great but the performance lacked. Recap agrees BD… they do what they do like or not but they do it #### well. Sadies fave of the night Bloo… she liked she could see people changing. Live it felt over produced, making me wonder how much of what I heard was actually live or a button. Also the GE music scores amaze me as almost every drum break has talking over it so loud you fight to hear the drums phatom was on phire!! Like I thought they got mandarins who also had a good run. Sadie called phantom old school. She wanted to know if mandarins singer was a voice from frozen 2. colts…. Love it!! Definitely a finalist BK I was hoping live it would reach me more. It didn’t reach either of us and I had to have that parental talk about why some shows feel like they take longer than they really do music city so much fun Academy was wonky fun.

  35. Absolutely. BD is an example why if I was in charge I would do everything in my power to keep my design and instructional team in place. The last time they really had a design misfire, IMO, was 2006. No one else can say that, not by a long shot. Love or hate Bluecoats their shows always interest me. A lot of the time I'm like "WTF" - the chairs in Session 44 and all the crap all over the field for the Beatles show, but I'd rather think "WTF is happening" than be bored, and Bluecoats are never boring. Overall, their show this year is my favorite of the year. I just think it is so unique and cool.
