  1. Because the corps director leads the performance unit. The CEO leads the entire org...NOT the same.

  2. This is an emotional video to many people....and not just because of the final placement. The three speakers, Michael Woodall, BOD, Chris Holland, Corps Director, and Colin McNutt, Percussion Caption Head, all joined BAC as teenagers. They have been integral in the journey and the kids have great respect for them. Fun fact: Mike was my section leader in the sop section when I joined in 1980 and he had already been in the corps more than 2 years then. Talk about Giants!

  3. ok i secretly want weber to end up at phantom regiment, but the cavaliers were always the awesome drill design corps to me. I would love to see them pick up pete weber and do a more drill focused visual design. I believe 100% that kind of design can still be successful in todays dci. And I know a ton of fans are just dying for that!

  4. Maybe a custom seal set with the corps logo or branded carrier pigeons? (Game of Thrones style) Made me think of this old FedEx commercial.

  6. I am addicted to drum corps notecards and stationery paper, but very few souvenir stands offer such an item. One year, Phantom Regiment did a note card set - maybe 20 or so years ago - with a dozen cards of 4 different images. Another time, very long ago, a Division ll corps sold colorful 6x9 pads of paper, the bottom of a each sheet included several comic-drawn musicians and guard members with the wording A CORPS LINE. Remember when you could buy those Troopers postcards from the canvas wagon? Best deal around. Was it ten for a dollar? One of the postcard pictures was taken at a rodeo, with a sunburst formation, if I recall correctly. I probably bought and mailed over 100 of those Troopers postcards over the years. I realize that paper doesn’t travel or age well. Often times, I’ll prepare my own drum corps stationery notecards on a color copier. It’s easy to buy cheap envelopes at a thrift store or after Christmas. Having access to a paper trimmer/cutter is helpful.

  7. There is a difference between people leaving or just moving on and being replaced. Operstions manager is a tough job and probably not that well paying, you do it for a year or 2 get beat up then move on to something else. On the Corps Director job this year was it was filled by two very experienced volunteers that I am sure the board would have liked to keep for a long time, however corps directing is very time consuming and does not have near the security or benefits of a good school system teaching job. People with families have a tough time spending all summer on a bus. I am fairly certain that Jay and Dwight will be involved in Regiment leadership in some way for years to come so that is not a shift in leadership for the corps

  11. Yeah, something with the all male corps. They're, they're - you can push them, because, uh it's all male. I-it's not that, uh, uh, uhm I'm trying to think of a way to say it. You can push them with clear direct information because they're male. I don't know. It's a different kind of thing.

  15. He'd be great for them. While Estudillo did just fine at Regiment, I wish Hunt would've worked out there. Hunt working with Cavies will be the ultimate irony given what he said during the Flo broadcast a few years ago...

  22. Dear Boston Crusaders: Thank you for providing a summer of competitive entertainment, resulting in your silver medal..Though it's been a long time coming, I'm sure current and alumni BAC members see this as the fulfillment of a blood, sweat and tears journey that can only be exceeded by a Gold medal in the near future...Keep striving towards excellence ..I never won anything in drum corps beyond a small circuit championship Eons ago, so I will live vicariously through your achievement until next season...At that point I'll root against you(Cadet Fan)...lol....peace

  24. Out of the top 5 only 3 impressed me with performance and a fresh/tight design (Boston & Bluecoats) - I was also surprised how poor some of the top 12 brass lines were at finals - basic tuning issue in a couple of the top 5 at FINALS (I can't recall that since 2000) and a couple others who were just very dirty finals week but made the top 12. A little shocking to me. SCV I think gets more of a pass as the visual side was much better than in the case of Cavaliers. JMO but 2022 was a rather weak year for the top 6

  27. I believe I am taking that all into account, theres a maybe 4-5corps that have other streams of revenue outside of the marching activity. Some is bingo, some is board buy in, some heavy marketing outreach partnerships. Regardless maybe 4 to 5 corps that actually have money. If we want to discuss money and how its 2022 and BD is the only corps running a revenue higher than 3mil (25+mil rev each year) actually has a strategic plan to continue to expand as an organization to serve its mission, I believe is the bigger problem regardless of on the field placement. YOU CANT SERVE YOUR MISSION IF YOU DONT HAVE CAPITAL COMING IN. A business plan is not band = loves = donations, so we can do summer band. When people actually build out what they want to serve, how they want to serve and the possibility of it, is very doable. Do some stats research and you’ll see how many opportunities there are to actually be successful! We still have nonprofits with that doesn't see their board as a strategic partnership and more they see it as a 501(c)(3) requirement. DCI as an entity being the number one culprit leader on not having a strategic board. Also, discussing money, yet most of these corps don't have a full time grant writer/full time development team/full time outreach money person. Here they all are discussing how they don't have enough money, and from the outside looking in, it looks like they do 0% on actually trying to get money in the door outside of band method way. Cadets is a great example, here they are with a brand new 501(c)(3) to make sure they start on a clean slate, and yet they didn't hire anyone that can actually bring the money in. The money excuse is exhausting to hear, we are an activity that has been around 50+ years and yet refuse to truly evolve the business side of the nonprofit... rantdone...

  29. No one in the finalist class is buying uniforms. They all have sponsorship deals with the uniform companies. They change them every year now for product placement to help the companies make lucrative sales to scholastic programs. It's like Nike/Addidas/UA sponsoring x sports team for visibility. I personally feel it's led to big cost explosions lower down the chain, but that is another discussion.

  30. I think you guys really don't take into account the money it takes to be a Top 5 and even Top 3 drum corps. It is not only about the show design and the staff. It is the tour and how well your tour and feed the kids, time sleeping on the floor, the money for food, travel, staff, props and everything else. Design and staff are a very important part of that equation, yes, but the current top 5 are what they are because of the money that they have compared to 6-10 and 11-15 etc (speaking very generally). And corps like Cavies have done a lot on very little money compared to the Top 5. And there are a few lower placing and even out of finals corps that have money (bingo especially) that don't place higher because they are not making the right design team, staff, tour financial decisions. Just my "two cents" based on helping run a few decent corps. = )

  34. No drama here, just going to a similar structure to most other corps. Corps these days are just one program of a larger non-profit. The directors of that non profit used to run the drum corps day to day, but with the added programs, that’s not possible. They become the “executive director” of the org, and hire a “corps director” for that branch of the non-profit. Corps director is very similar to the “tour director” role most are familiar with but with more off season responsibilities.

Very demanding percussion chart performed by the BAC battery this summer, and performed well am told by long time experienced Percussionists.

  37. To The Crusader Family, I have to say. Here I am almost 24 hours later from that glorious victory last night and it STILL hasn't registered how wonderful this season has been. I've had tears of joy for you all day. Of course, this year has been unlike any year I've seen for decades. While I can't get together to celebrate in person with you, I don't want this week to go by without letting each and every one of know just how proud I am of what you've done over the last six years, and especially over these last several months. You've all worked hard to succeed, both on the field and off with a clear vision for this organization. You're GIANTS and will help to cultivate the next generation of Giants for the Boston Crusaders. You're leaving a legacy that will be remembered for years to come.
