  1. I want to applaud the various color guard units in D.C.I ...They are integral to the success of the shows in which they appear and I cannot think of a show in recent history where color guards didn't matter..I emphasize their importance because during my marching days the color guard was not used as they are today ..Those of us who were around in the sixties know what i mean..After reviewing finals this year my appreciation for the amazing things they do just increased..So, bravo/brava to all of you hard working color guard folks.. Drum and bugle corps wouldn't be the same without your creativity..Peace

  2. Reads like sour grapes to me. People change jobs all the time and many times go to the competition. Sport coach's bounce around all the time and bring their style of play with them. They bring some if not all their assistant coaches (DCI techs) to teach the head coach's style based on the talent of the athletes (mm).

  3. The closest anyone ever came to beating BD was Boston at Atlanta with a .15 margin. That margin finals week was a lot larger.

  4. I was kind of fortunate in that I marched in an era of a major sea change … when I started, most guards were still kind of ornamental, (Anaheim was an exception). When I aged out, our guard was slinging flags and rifles all over the place. It was nice to march in an era of such seismic evolution.

  5. BAC and Bluecoats tied for second. If BAC came close to beating BD it follows that Bluecoats did as well.

  6. I disagree with this You watch BAC in 14 and then you watch BAC in 17 or 18 or any season with the new staff and its obvious its BAC. They may have designed elsewhere but those shows have never felt like a Crown show to me and doesn't look like it On the other hand. Crown has looked like Crown for a while despite the constant rotation of staff in and out. Yes they have their own style that you can see similarities in the show, but BAC has always and always will be BAC. Not Crown 2.0

  7. 2 things to challenge a couple of points here and maybe change the paradigm that has been invented and perpetuated. One. No one was waving stacks of money to get anyone to jump. They may have provided a landing spot for some who were jumping to find another place that would enable and encourage creative freedom with no restraint. Two, no BAC propagandists lurk in Crown world gloating. Although you may like perpetuating these ideas, it’s just not true. Crown folks wanted to leave, BAC wanted to make a push forward in DCI. Kismet. Serendipity. Certainly not poaching or any similar notion. Best of luck to Crown this year. Support them and for once drop the concern with BAC. It’s been 6 years for gosh sakes.

  8. it's a pro soccer stadium in Chester PA. it was wet, and the props killed the natural surface...and that in turn was detrimental to the facilities main tenant. if the cost is cheaper, move Atlanta there, because word is Mercedes is too expensive to ever use it again

  9. TBF I think about that spread at Atlanta a lot

  10. Way back when, if guards tried anything similar to what we've seen guards do since the 70's, they might have been chased off the field during their performance by mostly guys in over sea's caps.

  11. I imagine those propagandist you speak of are only defending Boston because others bring up that corps in another corps thread.

  12. And what's wrong with that? And please do not attempt to convince us that you've never taken more money from another buyer for an item you sold or taken a similar job elsewhere for a better salary/hourly rate.

  13. If you beat BD then you are DCI Champs in 2023. You can beat others but BD is that goal. 2022 was a pretty easy year for no. 20 for BD. Boston came close but nobody else did. I'm stating facts....not fiction.

  15. Same old same old. And referring to the Boston Crusaders as the "Crown North Drum and Bugle Corps" is disingenuous and insulting to a corps who has survived over 83 years. Seriously? I thought we were beyond this.

  18. Let’s focus on the future. No need to “fall drama things”. The corps is in good position to do well competitively. And the imminent plans in progress should offer a “reset” and some good stability going forward. Not “drama” I have 2 student contracted there this year. Let’s let the process ride out with positive interactions. Brass book is awesome and jury is out on percussion, I don’t have any interactions there.

  19. Its difficult to know. Rumors fly left and right in the offseason, some pan out, others dont however. Boston Crusaders current show design staff does tend to sometimes like drawing show theme inspiration from books of Literature and/ or historical events ( but they are not wedded to that.. 2021 " Zoom " was not for one example ). So... we'll see whats up their sleeve for this summer.

  20. Your claim about “nobody else” is wrong. Did you forget about the tie for second place?

  21. Hey .. yeah .. I’ll admit sour grapes on guard. Townsend has something special. Those Potter shows top out .. we’ll see how those compete going forward. but … let’s just admit what is commonly known .. BAC waved a stack of money at these teams and they jumped. Just own it. I still argue a couple of ppl moving around is not the same as what has happened here but .. my opinion. And in the same breath the BAC propagandist that constantly live in the Crown forum gloat about pulling over Crown kids. You can’t have it both ways. And also .. we’ll all be fine. I like what BAC is doing .. it’s dramatic story telling with a lot of guard on top. What’s there not to like. ?

  25. It’s constant sour grapes and they can’t get over it even if the moves occurred over 6 years ago. You are dead on about what a staff brings to a new group. They actually can’t articulate exactly how poaching is applicable whenever anyone moves to another corps. Just think of all recent moves and these would be poaching by their definition. From brass and percussion moves right on up to leadership positions.

  26. Boston beat BD in brass Saturday night, I believe.

  27. Yeah .. even I am tiring of the Crown North Drum and Bugle Corps (aka BAC) conversation but I think there are degrees of staff moving around and an entire visual team, creative, design, drill and color guard staff .. even down to the techs moving to another corps. That pretty much is poaching. And frankly the first three years honestly I did not even know the staff had left Crown and I kept saying .., why does Boston look just like Crown .. down to even the small stylistic body movements. Even down to their show graphics and social media packaging. it’s all fine with me but there is barely one shred of the old Boston look or feel left. And I love it because it looks like Crown .. but you just gotta own it .. I mean Sacktig came to Crown but in no way do they look or feel like the Cadets. It’s just weird to me .. wanting to present stylistically the same as another corps. BAC has evolved more and this is less the case but those first three shows felt like copy paste to me.

  28. It was an annual tradition for several years, pre-covid. Done in collaboration with the Crusaders Senior Corps, it gave the groups a chance to bond - old school/new school

  29. There were 2 times in the recent past where the IAM CEO had the corps come to his house in NH, and perform (brass and perc only). They were treated to a full New England Clambake both times as well as chicken and steak, finished off with an ice cream extravaganza from a local ice cream shop. Both of these experiences for the kids was incredible. And it was interesting to see what kids would do with a lobster when they’d never seen one before. Some were stumped at first. It was an all you could eat feast and good lord did the kids eat.
