And the bellyaching still goes on but for many, their history may not extend this far back. The bitd for many, could be mid to late 70’s, and maybe for others it’s the 80’s. And still others want to stay in the 60’s. 60 years ago.3 points

What's wrong with the crown club level? The view is awesome, they have free food, and you get to rub elbows with us common folk.3 points

I was gonna say. "There's worse ways for a speaker to go" and "A noble sacrifice." Lingering question...what part of the show finally broke it? [secretly hoping for the sops call in the closer]2 points

Hello! This is my first post on here so please excuse me if this is already a topic that's been posted. For a school project I'm documenting a few highly controversial DCI shows, and I wanted your input on them! So far I have Cadets 2007 (Rose Bowl Performance) "This I Believe: Truth, Value, and the Personal Experience called Drum Corps" Cadets 2008 "...and the Pursuit of Happiness" Boston Crusaders 2014 "Animal Farm" Cavaliers 2016 "Propaganda" For research's sake, it would be best if you all could reccomend shows from around 2000-present. Thank you!!!1 point

Wasn't the Cadets singing amen against the rules and a hot topic? I recall Crown getting some heat(ha) over the Inferno, both for some of the silk designs and the partner choreography. The silks were inspired by art from the time period depicting the second circle of hell - punishment for lust. BD got hate for a solid 8 years or so starting in 2009 for not doing enough moving and playing or difficult color guard choreography but still placing 1st or 2nd, winning CG many of those years. Bluecoats 2017 had Fosse inspired costuming and people thought it was too risque (along with a portion of the commenters making gross comments about performers who were minors).1 point

Depending on how you’re defining controversial, I think Suncoast Sound’s 1988 show “Symphonic Dances for the Contemporary Child” might fit (besides being outside of your designated time period). It was a particularly challenging show for audiences, which therefore led to very polarized opinions. You can read more about it here: https://dci.org/news/spotlight-of-the-week-1988-suncoast-sound1 point

If you were going to the Centennial Park area & MB Stadium. 🥲😁 But what @really4325 said above. That stadium is just to the east of I-85 & south of I-20 below the old Turner Field. If you don't drive, I'd probably Uber or Lyft. Horrible area that they're trying to rejuvenate. I haven't been back since they left the MB Stadium. You could probably ride the bus system, but... 🤷♂️ Sad... Good luck & 'Godspeed'! Here's a link to MARTA's interactive map: https://www.itsmarta.com/interactive-system-map.aspx1 point

As a historical context for your project, either early DCI or pre-DCI, the Madison Scouts had a female play Alice for Alice in Wonderland. Aside from having a lady in an all-male corps, the introduction of a themed show was itself controversial. Old timers, pkease elaborate.1 point

I Know Colts '97 used Blood, Sweat and Tears "Sympathy for the Devil" but I would love a fresh take on that.1 point

I think they do. I think it's human nature. When in recent times have we ever seen wild swings early in the season when scores weren't hidden? We haven't. It has only happened, recently enough, in 2011 and 2012 because the first shows scores weren't released until after the second show. Crown was 3.5 points ahead of the Cadets the 1st night and 2 points behind the second night. That's a 5.5 point swing in one night. Crown also went from 1st to 5th in Visual and 1st to 6th in Music. Crown beat Cavaliers the first night and was nearly 4 points behind the second. Devils beat the Cadets by 3 points the first night to being a few tenths behind the second night. Those wild swings effected all four corps - the four best corps in the actiivity. This happened ONLY because the judges on the second night had no scores to go off of from the first night. Therefore, both panels were flying blind and judged it as they saw it. I can't help but wonder how the second night would have played out if that panel had the first night's recap. I'd wager much different. It would have likely skewed the opinion of the second night's panel resulting in scores more in line with the first night. Absolutely. No judge is going to drop Crown to 6th in Ensemble Music knowing they were 1st in Ensemble Music the night before. No judge on night 2 is going to drop Crown to 5th in Brass knowing they were 1st in Brass the night before. No way. The recaps between the two nights tell an even bigger story than the scores themselves. All captions are all over the place. That's judging based on any given night. That's judging based on how you see it. That's judging without being influenced by prior scores. That's the fair judging we do not see in this activity.1 point

Crown sent out notifications re NightBEAT ‘25 tickets, which will be available next week. I took advantage of the CrownSUITE option last year and was really impressed. While CrownJEWELS contributors get first option, there was sufficient seating remaining for the proletariat, DCI enthusiast, so I'm re-upping for it this year. While you miss the crowd and that component of a live, drum corps experience, the view is unparalleled, meals brought to you and facilities just across the hall. Though that setting might not sound like your cup of tea, it’s worth taking a chance. Especially at that price.1 point

The 1970's was the zenith of Drum Corps. Nothing will ever come close. RIP to the good old days.1 point
