  1. Let’s take proactive measures to help each other at least in the mental health area. If you’re bouncing off the walls, feeling panic creep in, or just need a sympathetic ear, post it here and let’s work to encourage each other. We WILL get through this but it will take time. If you want to start the blame posts go somewhere else. Love you all!

  3. Hey guys. I usually stay clear of this stuff and I appreciate those of you that understand my position. I'm basically going to tell you what has already been said on here. There are some smart people here with good sources. The Cadets are working on a number of things right now. All for the good. DCI is aware and being extremely helpful. The corps will be on the field this summer and will be highly competitive. The staff is being given the tools they need within the budget. The budgeting for the corps is realistic with expenses high and income low, it has an extremely generous line

  5. And this is why Dan Acheson is DCI Executive Dir and not you or me, and corps representatives voting membership makes the decisions about the season, and not you or me. They've been doing this for decades. Their primary focus is on the marching members and their participant's safety. They'll make the right decision at the right time. That time is not now.

  6. The biggest overreaction? I wish the country where I'm living had've "overreacted". If they did, then the world wouldn't be going through what it currently is. Instead, things were covered up in an attempt to calm the public. Now we have a global pandemic. Let me give you a tale of two cities where I live - China. Wuhan has a population of 11 million people, with 68,000 cases and 3,000 deaths1 (per the entire province of Hubei). Though, I do highly suspect the deaths and cases are both far greater than what has been reported... as Italy is now approaching 1,000 deaths itself.

  7. So much pontificating on here. Everyone going off their own opinions and their own rumors based on people they CLAIM to know who have inside information, but no one knows for sure WHAT is happening. I would LOVE to know what music Cadets are playing this year.

  8. Back in 2002, I kept a decent journal of my experience marching with Crossmen for myself and as a gift for each person who helped contribute to me being able to afford to march. I came across it today and the first entry was January 18, 2002 so I thought I'd post along for the full season this year.... --- (Note: I auditioned for Santa Clara Vanguard back in November.) January 18, 2002 Newark, DE I did attend the December audition camp for the Crossmen. Things were much different there than with SCV. We focused much more on music and m

  9. I'm challenging every DCP member to post your support here. My pledge: I will give every dollar of my refunded Friends membership, plus my refunded finals week ticket costs, directly back to the corps. Approximately $4,400. Further, I will pledge immediately up to $2,600 additional contributions to individual corps. Total $7,000 because I LOVE this activity and what it does for young musicians. I'm also thankful to John Donovan and all the mods for giving us this sandbox in which we can stay connected to it.

  10. Contracted for my third season of World Class, pretty much everyone I have talked to wishes for the cancellation of the season. I am fine with reevaluating another week or so, but they need to act. Everyone understands the situation, that the season cannot go on under these circumstances. It just is what it is. The Olympics, NBA, MLB, NHL, MLS- all have changed their schedules. Any sort of a move to shorten tour will only provide worse show quality, and more importantly, a worse member experience. Build contingency plans for corps' survival, get a refund out to everyone, and extend e

  11. I figure you guys are probably aware, but just in case. The Madison Scouts has decided to pursue classes with staff and current members throughout the summer. They are also hoping for a week or two in late July or August to bring the corps together to get somewhat of a summer experience. I thought the email and video were excellent. My kid will be participating and in return, contracts will be extended to 2021. Still a Madison Scout family socially distant! 💚⚜️🤍

  12. The Cadets will be fine for 2020. There will be a big announcement in the near future outlining the plan for the Cadets moving forward and a lot of the people spewing doom and gloom will be eating a lot of crow. This I can tell you and it is first hand knowledge: The Cadets have taken delivery of a BRAND NEW set of Yamaha Brass The Cadets have taken delivery of ALL BRAND NEW front ensemble instruments The Cadets Will be taking delivery of a BRAND NEW set of battery percussion The Cadets WILL NOT be competing in Open Class. 14. I got to go to their January camp show and tell this morning, some very interesting and exciting stuff. They seem to be going after a mix of very recognizable music as well as more obscure stuff. Also some very interesting plans for at least one part of their show, something I'm not sure has really been done to the extent they are attempting. They also sound great. Should be a very exciting season!

  15. BD's worst meal in 84 was beef stroganoff. Not many of us ate it...so after the Pt. Huron rainout show, when we were stuck at the Canadian border with Garfield, Freelancers, and 27th, we gave it to Garfield....and we sat on our busses in slack-jawed amazement watching them pound it down like there was no tomorrow. Even today, alums of 84 Cadets tell me that was their BEST meal all year!

  17. Just to clarify...The Cadets at present still operate under the YEA! umbrella. We will be an independent non profit organization beginning on March 31, with a full board of directors as required by the government. Please please rest assured that we know what we are doing. If you have serious questions or concerns about this then please email me at bmartin@cadets.org. As the Development Director i can assure you that you can make a donation to The Cadets today or after March 31 and everything will be fine. Brad Martin Development and Marketing Manager The Cadets

  18. When Ike Jackson himself is captured on a video making wildly inappropriate comments to HS students, then IMO the jury is not still out. The one video alone should have resulted in him being released from Ayala at least. As for the Mandarins, if their admin sees that video, plus the weight of the other reported commentary, then hopefully they do the right thing.

  19. What a great post! Thanks for putting it together. I've been following posts on DCP for years but until now haven't posted. In 1987 I was on the visual, and color guard staff for the Velvet Knights. I worked closely with Bobby Hoffman on the visual staff and Roxanne Narachi on the color guard staff. I designed and constructed all the silks, designed/built all the props (the California license plate at the end of the show was a major undertaking!) and made most of the costumes that were used throughout the show. (Interesting coincidence - the two corps that tied, VK and Star, probably had

When there is a safe strategy for this, I'll be at the head of the line. But I would ask my colleagues to consider facts, not pipe dream fantasies. Read what JimF says, above: "Lol just did a NYT link to where I would be in line to get a vaccine." Does anyone actually think 18-20 year old musical athletes are going to be at the front of THAT line? Logic says "no" to that. Think about the ramifications of large groups of un-vaccinated young

  25. Just because you say so doesn’t make it so! A lot of organizations, independent show sponsors, and numerous regional circuits were eroded instead of supported by DCI. It wasn’t until just recently that DCI even felt there was a need for member safety guidelines or sexual abuse/harassment reporting. To believe no one besides DCI is capable to lead the activity in the future is extremely narrow minded IMO. DCI has been grossly irresponsible and very self serving. After Finals I went to dinner with some other folks I had met in the stands, we talked and laughed for a while, and I mentioned I had a 2:00 flight the next day. Someone suggested I could go get on standby for an earlier flight, which sounded like a good idea. So I did. I managed to get a seat on a 9:00am flight the next morning. When I took my seat I noticed the girl next to me was wearing a Crossmen jacket and had her medal a

I can't speak for the Bluecoats, but in general, a modern drum corps payroll is going to include truck drivers, a traveling physician, nurse, physical trainer, professional chef, (the cooking crew are probably volunteers), as well as 60-70 instructional staff. Remember, staff rarely are on tour all 70 days at the same time. It is tempting to compare back to 40 years ago, but really, it is not even the same activity. We no longer have corps dads driving 35 years old buses with no AC and eating mac and cheese for every meal. Did any corps even carry liability insiurance back in the 70s'? I d

  31. Lots of hard decisions to come I am sure. In the end what needs to be done is keep everyone safe. WGI didn’t just cancel because they’re scared, Ohio/UD were probably going to make restrictions on events with higher attendance events and the like. I suspect if DCI would do the same it would be for similar reasons. There’s housing for all parts of the tour, performance venues, the environment that corps operate in, different states restrictions on events should this continue to escalate, etc. I and I’m sure many more will be heartbroken should something happened his summer, bu

  34. Hello, all – my name is Michael and I marched mellophone in the 1996 Cavaliers and was absolutely obsessed with drum corps in the late 80s and 90s when I was in high school and college. I started to lose interest in drum corps after about 2009 and stopped going to shows or paying much attention to what was going on in DCI at all. I still went to finals in 2011 and was thoroughly unimpressed. I decided to pay to watch 2019 finals at home to see again if things had gotten any better. Let’s just say the Beatles are my favorite band and the Bluecoats got me back into watching drum corps big ti

There was just a ton of conversation already in this thread about the YEA! changes PRIOR to the "other thread" so it seemed a bit misguided Additionally I would like to make another point: I certainly hope (and assume) that 95% or greater of the folks posting in EITHER thread want nothing but the best for the Cadets. However, it's a bit important to be realistic - there are a small number of folks posting either aligned with GH or the folks that led the corps in 2018 & 2019. 44. Two major differences: H1N1 was an influenza variant. Which meant that some portions of the population already had at least partial immunity, and the extant influenza vaccines and medications had at least some effect on treating the infected. COVID-19 is a novel (meaning "new") coronavirus. It is a mutation so unlike any other coronavirus known to man that no one on the planet has any immune antibodies for it, and there are no vaccines or drugs designed to treat it (yet). COVID-19 is much more contagious. In infectious disease research there is something called an R0 ("R naught") num

  48. Eh, they've been given time to get the financial (and I suspect legal) issues figured out, since DCI doesn't have an interest in keeping them off the field if there's the option to have them on the field. That being the case, there's nothing they could likely announce yet until the process is a little further along, and the same goes for DCI. My guess is that the scheme to create a new org for Cadets will be allowed, DCI will ignore their own rules that make a new corps (which they would technically be) compete in Open Class before applying for WC, and anyone who was owed money from YEA w
