  1. Blue Rock home show in Wilmington DE. 1971 I think. Bon-Bons Garfield Cadets Chessmen Boston Crusaders Bayonne Bridgemen (may be missing one other corps) exhibition Reading Buccaneers Blue Rock Remember Garfield won the show. Bridgemen hornline was crowd favorite.
  2. 2nd and 3rd snares in from the right on the Blue Rock snare line look familiar. Is one Jeff Dennis?
  3. I have a vague memory of this PBS program. The episode that I recall featured the Blue Stars and Madison Scouts. I think it aired in '72 or 73.
  4. 1997 Cavaliers - contained some sort of vocalization during the opening moments of their Rite of Spring / Firebird show. Anyone recall this?
  5. Michael, This is an interesting topic, but I think it would be helpful to see a example. Would it be possible to pull a couple scoring sheets together for two or three corps competing at the same competition and then highlight the scoring captions with explanations as to why corps A scored higher than corps B in a particular area?
  6. Anyone know if corps do lease / buy analysis on horns or percussion equipment? Would need to factor in expected life, depreciation of equipment and residual value for starters.
  7. Thanks for posting the clip. I remember seeing this plus a promo on the Today show for the "All-Star Drum and Bugle Corps" a day before the Macy's Thanksgiving day parade. Katie Couric's jaw dropped when she heard them play. I love the brass sound. It reminds me of why I got hooked on drumcorps so many years ago. Would love to see more efforts like this. Maybe DCA would like to take a shot at organizing a repeat performance.
  8. Here's a vote for Blue Rock. Loved the jungle animal sounds created by the horn line during their version of "Rain Chant" in the early 70's, and the Joe Marella drum sections were outstanding.
  9. Crown Imperial - 27th Lancers, 1975 Jesus Christ Superstar Medley - Argonne Rebels, 1972 Requiem for the Masses - Blue Rock, 1971
  10. DrumCorpsMom, I love your enthusiasm. I've been following the Xmen since my MB buddy told me her corps, the 507th Hornets, was merging with the Keystone Regiment. I think Decompressed is on target when it comes to putting a rock show on the field. Being a BS&T fan, I enjoyed the Colts 1997 show a great deal. Rock oriented shows don't always transition well to drumcorps and even if the product is well executed, it's not always a high scorer. As long as the Xmen keep pushing for an entertaining and well executed program, they will be winners.
  11. Maybe the Cadet's uni's would look better with high-top sneakers and baseball caps. Anyone see a shark lurking in the end-zone?
  12. Through the mid 70's we used straps and "levelers" on snares. Levelers were pieces of metal that followed the curve of the top rim. They had 6 or more holes and sat between two lugs on the rim. You'd connect your snap to the hole that made the snare relatively level to the ground. We also used to see homemade carriers for tymp's and tenors until about the mid 70's.
