  7. I just want to congratulate both Capital Sound and Lake Erie Regiment for their strong showing in Div III this year. Both corps had a very rough winter and there was a lot of dicussion about them not coming out this year (at least with LER). And here they are both finalist in Div III. It shows what hard work and determination can produce. I want to wish the staff and members of both corps a healthy off season and look forward to seeing both of them back out next year. Glad to see Bandettes and Americanos are coming back as well. Good luck to all. See you in Madison.
  8. Corpsmanship is what makes drum corps a great activity. I come from back in the day and more than likely competed against OldGuard as I competed againt every corps in the photo. (nice tribute to us dinosaurs by the way) Our corps has a long and troubled history against one of the corps in the New London show. They were coming off the field as we were getting ready to go on. I made the kids cheer for them as they came off. Later, some of their staff came up to us and gave us some praise, and for a few moments, the personal feelings were put aside. Another form of corpsmanship is how Citation helped us as 2 of our new members did not have their black gloves with them. Citation, the only other corps their to wear black gloves, gave us two brand new pairs. No questions asked. Thank you Citation. If anyone was to ask us for a favor, we would do the same. As a matter of fact, when all the corps went inactive in April and May, we offered a free ride any members of those corps. We paid for their flight to NJ and will fly them home after tour is over plus housing. We also offered no tour fee. We had a couple take us up on our offer, but went home after a couple of weeks. Corpsmanship comes in many ways, making new friends, respecting everyone, helping when you can. Great lessons for life. I hope your son is really enjoying himself and learning these lessons in his corps. BTW - I watched Spartans very closely. As well as ECJ and Surf. All three came in where they belonged. DCI is a JUDGED competition in which you get credit for how well you perform your show. Although Surf is very entertaining, the huge hornline is still somewhat dirty, the drumline is good, but the corps does not march well. Still way too much phasing for this time of year. ECJ made some changes to their show and performed them quite well. Their hornline rocks and is very clean, the drumline is quite good, and they can perform a very nice visual show. Spartans are excellent. Their drumline is excellent, their hornline performs at a very high level, and they are the only corps I have seen in Div II who can truly perform visually. I cant say if ECJ or Spartans will win Div II and I think Surf will make Grand Finals I look forward to seeing how all the corps will do in Brockton.
  9. If you go to page 9 of this forum, read ALOT of Div. III corps going inactive, unfortunately :( That was a good discussion with many different views and opinions. I think you will find your answer there.
  10. Dwayne is our percussion caption head. The drum solo was his original piece. After he composed it, he made a midi and distributed it to the drum line and the staff. What a hit. And I must say, the whole line really loves this piece and performs it quite well. While going over it in the parking lot, we were getting a nice crowd stopping and listening to it. By the way, drumline took 2nd - 1.5 behind Raiders. Thanks for the nice review you gave us. "Overall, this corps is strong on visual and performance." Interestingly, that was our downfall. The guard learned a lot of new work and was still shakey and losing our guard member right before we went on the field, didnt help. But everyone performed very well and we look forward to the next couple of weeks. Look for us to be peaking just at the right time. Hope to meet you in Brockton.
  11. Excellent Review I want to applaud the crowd. The stands were full, even when we went on (Spirit of NJ), and very into every corps. From Cadets of NY straight through Jersey Surf. (11 corps) I know it made it fun for us to perform for you. I hope all the corps feel the same way. Also, 7th Regiments staff and voluteers did a tremendous job putting this show together. We had an incident where a guard member broke her nose doing a toss during warmups in the parking lot. Their staff was quick to react and got the ambulance there right away. They even hoped to have her back from the hospital before we went on the field. They missed by only 45 min. We had a great school for housing. Thank you for that. I hope we get shows like this while we are on tour. Let the fun begin
  12. I believe the Cadets of NY were fined somewhere around $1000 per show missed on tour (that was 7 shows, including prelims) when they decided not to go on tour last year. Their fines had to paid this year before they declared their division size. I could be wrong, but that is what I was told.
  13. Spirit of New jersey is looking for an experienced weapons instructor for the remainder of this season. 15 in the guard and 5 in the weapons line. if interested, email Bigelow1@comcast.net
